first of all, if he does go for 10.5m, that's 1.6m profit for roma. why would they not have bothered signing borini? even if you just want to talk money, it's hard to imagine that they would've squeezed out more than a 1.6m profit for half of his card. the rogers guy at Liverfekkin'wankscum was borini's manager at swansea just a year ago, i think, where fabio did very well. i wouldn't be surprised if the manager specifically requested to sign borini. there's also some connection between the owners of the two clubs. put those three together with borini being an 'outsider' among the players, as well as possibly not fitting into a 4-3-3 as well as destro and you should see how it makes more sense than many other rumored transfers.

Borini fits my idea of a wide player in a 4-3-3 far better than Destro does.

Presumably the Destro-Borini thing depends very much on where Zeman sees his current forwards fitting in the 4-3-3. He may well agree with you, red, but be looking for an option through the middle rather than down the wing. He's used Totti and Osvaldo as left-sided forwards when he's had them in the past; he's said he considers Lamela a wing-forward; he's said he considers Taddei a wide player, though hasn't settled on which 'line' he fits in best; on the face of it, I'd imagine Lopez and Bojan are both more likely to fit as wide players than through the middle; then there's Caprari. Which isn't to say that the Borini deal will happen - or that, if it does, it won't prove a mistake; I wouldn't describe the idea as nonsense, though.

I described it as nonsense – or mercato madness, if you prefer – because there was no report of this deal anywhere in the Italian media (other than that BBC piece) and the only source of it was from the BBC. If you look closely at the it says Rodgers had stated that he was close to making an "exciting" signing – there was no proper mention of Borini, that was just guesswork on the part of the BBC. The Scum also made a bid for Ramiriz of Bologna this week.

David, they're all valid points, but I still don't really see why we would go to all the trouble of negotiating and hassling for weeks with Parma before it eventually went to the envelopes and ended with us just coming out on top and signing him outright only to tell sell him on a few weeks later for such a small margin. And as DCG pointed out, there are agents fees and signing on fees and wages to consider. As I've said, though, I wouldn't be all that disappointed if Borini did leave, especially if it meant getting Destro.

Forzaroma's been saying that Liverpuke have been sniffing around after Borini for a while now. If you'd said that you thought the BBC piece looked a bit speculative, I'd certainly have agreed.

It should probably also be said that the talk at the time (so here, for instance: http://www.forzaroma.info/il-messaggero ... rini-73302 ; http://www.forzaroma.info/la-gazzetta-d ... ordo-72998 ) was that the club didn't want to spend the money on Borini at this point - that a deal for an extension of the co-ownership for another season had been reached between the two clubs but that Borini himself rejected it as he wanted his future to be decided one way or another. The consequence was that the club had to spend 5 mil they hadn't bargained on in this market. Make of that what you will.

Fair point, there could well be something in that alright. Although Sabatini and our management are appearing to be rather stringent (scabby?) in our dealings, too. Getting about a mil of Marquinho's previously agreed price, trying to get Kjaer on loan again instead of agreed price, making a reduced bid for Gago. Could have been just the same ploy with Parma.

Sabatini in his confirms that "there is real interest in Borini from Liverfekkin'wankscum which we are considering. We are evaluating things, we'll see how it goes."

He also had a little swipe at Totti, who yesterday called for better players, saying he is entitled to his opinions but we are doing a good job.

Dodo also had his in the same conferenza, he called Totti his idol, and Sabatini was praising him a lot.I also like the number he took, could be a good omen:

I guess those were some of the videos which enticed ManPoo into signing him. He looks good, good to see he has an end product about him with a good cross/getting his head up.

Anyone a little disappointed we didn't make more of a move for Verratti? He looks to be off for PSG – which is a big shame for the Italian game – and it appears no Italian club made a proper move for him. You would think that with Zeman having overseen his rise to stardom last season at Pescara coupled with our focus on youth and players for the future he would have been a good signing for us. Sabatini has said we won't sign any real big star players, but he could have been the 'gift' to the tifosi, a big signing to please everyone. PSG reportedly have him for €11m rising to €14m, so say if we had offered around €11m plus a loan/co-ownership of a few players it would have been possible. Yet no move for him?
