Roma had 'best Destro bid'

Genoa President Enrico Preziosi has revealed it was Roma who made a firm offer for Mattia Destro, but Siena buying half the player “made it a complicated knot.”

Destro had been on loan to Siena, but now he is co-owned by the Tuscans and Genoa, making his future a complex affair.

“There was an agreement with Siena for us to bring him back, but it all collapsed when I stopped dealing with the matter personally,” Genoa President Preziosi told Radio Manà Manà.

“The Bianconeri therefore – and entirely legitimately – took up their option to buy half his contract and keep Destro in their squad.”

Preziosi had hinted yesterday at a pact to send Destro to Inter this summer, but now reveals it was not quite so clear-cut.

“Actually it was Roma who had made the really credible offer for the player. It’s all different now, anyway, as Siena have co-ownership rights too.

“This has made it a complicated knot that we could well have to disentangle next year.”

It is also reported on Sky Sport Italia that German club Wolfsburg made a €15m bid for Destro, but the striker rejected the chance because he is determined to stay in Serie A.

Silvestre to Inter on hold

Palermo and Inter have taken no forward steps in their transfer talks for Rosanero stopper Matias Silvestre.

The Nerazzurri want the Argentine defender and Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini went as far as saying that a move was 99 per cent certain.

However, speaking with Sport Italia, Zamparini has revealed that negotiations have ground to a halt.

“The talks with Inter over Silvestre have been at a standstill since last week,” the Stadio Barbera chief commented.

Palermo want around €10m for the South American, a year after they handed over €8m to Catania for his signature.

Moratti pledges Inter sales

Massimo Moratti points out Inter won’t be bringing in any more reinforcements unless they have sold some players first.

“There is absolutely nothing to talk about with regards to the transfer market,” President Moratti told La Repubblica this evening.

“Do we have to sell first? Certainly...”

The Nerazzurri have brought in some new players, as Rodrigo Palacio was signed from Genoa and Philippe Coutinho returned from a loan spell in Spain.

It is reported they are eager to edge out high wage-earners like Lucio and Douglas Maicon before making new buys.

Moratti: 'No big Inter buys'

President Massimo Moratti has warned Inter will “not make big investments” this summer, as they plan on making the most of their youth academy’s success.

So far the Nerazzurri have brought in Rodrigo Palacio from Genoa, but are so far focusing more on selling ageing stars.

“The economic funds for a club that works well also come from what it can make by selling players,” pointed out Moratti.

“The fans appreciate what results the club is achieving in terms of youngsters who come up through the ranks, not just buying famous players.”

That approach was also made clear by promoting Andrea Stramaccioni from the Primavera side to be head Coach.

“Barcelona’s style of churning out champions is a fortune that you have to earn and I think for the last few years we have been trying to do that. Some positive results are starting to arrive.

“In any case, Inter always plan to win.”

Official: Lucio leaves Inter

Brazilian defender Lucio has cancelled his contract with Inter by mutual consent, ending a three-year stint in Italy.

The 34-year-old, who has been linked with a switch to Fenerbahce this summer, has ended his deal with the Nerazzurri that had two years to run, as confirmed by an official club statement released on Friday evening.

“FC Internazionale communicates that it has deposited with the Lega Serie A documents confirming the amicable and mutually agreed termination of the contract with Lucio.

“The Brazilian defender, who was contracted with the club until June 30, 2014, played in the Nerazzurri shirt in 135 official games, scoring five goals and winning a Scudetto, two editions of the Coppa Italia, a Supercoppa Italia, one UEFA Champions League and a Club World Cup.

“Lucio and his family have the most sincere salute from all at FC Internazionale.”

This action paves the way for Matias Silvestre to complete his expected transfer into the club from Palermo.

I think that getting rid of Lucio's salaries is a good thing. It was clear this year he was on the decline. Next player we should get rid of is Forlan who earns 4M a year. Looks like this year the club is serious about a young team. I am very optimistic about the future especially since other teams are also getting weaker by losing their top players. Team to beat will be Juventus, but there again, I don't see them as the power house they were 10 years ago when they used to field the Zidanes, Trezeguets, Nedveds etc. This year they are raving about the Islas and Asamoahs.

Lucio is the first to go (apparently Juve is close to signing him, that is quite interesting), next is Forlan, probably another mutual termination followed by Maicon to Chelsea - that should be a sale with a decent amount of cash coming our way. This new 'younger' team we are building starting with our manager is really going to make our future very exciting.

Next is Julio Cesar lads. He has a salary of 4,5m a year for another 2 years. Inter is trying to rid of him on a free to sign Udinese's Handanovic. JC's contract costs us 18m over 2 years whereas we can have Handanovic for around 12m with a salary of 1-1.5m a year.
Having said that, it will be a sad day for me to see JC leave..

I agree with Lomba, it will be sad to see JC and Maicon leave. Lucio and Forlan not so much. But the first two were the backbone of our team that has won so much in recent years. JC has been more of a leader and has been inspirational even with his half time team talks.

We are at a rebuilding stage and it's the right time to give Vivianno a chance. If not, why not Bardi? I know it's a huge risk but what if it comes off. I think Strama having coached the Primavera is the right coach to do it. I think this is the right time to take some risk with the youngsters. It is just not enough to talk about having a young squad we need to take action. Spending 17m on Handanovic is insane. Not to forget, this year we are in the Europa League.
