Very good performance from Italy and a deserved win.

They struggle a bit in the first twenty minutes or so because De Rossi was playing a bit too deep and narrow, but once that was sorted Italy were completely dominant and never looked like conceding.

Good changes from Prandelli to keep the team as fresh as possible, though tiredness is less of an issue in 4-3-1-2 than in 3-5-2.

Just a shame Italy weren't able to take a few chances and make the scoreline reflect just how dominant they were.

Hard to see Italy getting past Germany.

Aside from Germany being a better team, Italy are going to be knackered and will have two days less recovery time than the Germans

I agree, the turn around for the Azzurri is a bit much and the travel doesn't help but I'm sure Germany would have preferred to play England over even a very tired Azzurri. We have nothing to lose and the squad is full of confidence, plus the break in football might hurt the Germans.

Italy only beat England because they'd had an extra day's rest and so were fresher. On an even playing-field, England would have battered them, so don't start complaining about the draw now. Had Italy topped their group, of course . . . .

And despite what some may say, Germany have very nearly twice the rest of Italy. When you account for Travel time it grows to nearly 3 full days more.

Effectively the difference between Itaky playing a midweek match while the German on a full week.

Well, the Djermans also took the opportunity to rest some of their players against supposedly weak opposition. Prandelli missed a trick by not doing the same. He should have sent the reserve team out to deal to those English scrubs. They could have got some match practice and built up some confidence in running rings around the pasties.

Yeh I agree, they really should have rested Pirlo, DDR, Cassano and played a few of the kids. Borini woulda had a hat-trick last night, and Gio a field day running rings around the defenders. And I have to say, Frodo, fair play to you for taking the defeat of your home nation with such grace and humility, no doubt its one of the traits you've picked up living in the homeland.
