Haven't there been reports that we'll have a decent transfer budget this year? I'm not expecting us spend the kind of money we did last summer, but I do expect us to make a major signing in defense, and maybe in midfield.
Few articles on Borini. From what I can gather of the situation, his future is still unclear because at this point Parma aren't willing to renew the co-ownership of him with us for another year as we want to do and as per the original agreement, and instead want to cash in on their 50% of him now. They want a further €7m for him on top of the €3.5m we paid for his co-ownership in the last winter mercato, so he would cost us a total of €10.5m. It sounds like we're basically just calling their bluff until they agree to renew the co-ownership for another year or agree to sell us their half for cheaper. We have until Friday to reach an agreement or else it goes to the dreaded envelopes.
I'm also not quite what to make of the reports of Osvaldo leaving. I'm not really sure why we're looking to sell him (if the reports are to believed). Is it because of his attitude and behaviour and the red cards or more because we just think he's inconsistent and have been disappointed in his performances, particularly toward the end of the season? Or does Zeman not fancy him or see him working in his three-man forward line? I'm by no means Osvaldo's biggest fan or anything, but I do think he is a good player and can be a very good striker for us once he sorts his attitude out a bit, which is something he needs to improve, no doubt. I think we should give him another season at the least, and I'm not a fan of selling players after just one season of getting them.
On the whole mercato madness as whole, I'm getting very tired of it already. A lot of the names we've been linked with lately – Albiol, Castan, Merkel, Sissoko – do absolutely nothing for me whatsoever. In fact, when I think about it, I actually don't think we need to buy a whole lot this summer at all. Its quiet a turnaround from the Rosella regime of a few years ago when we were crying out for new players – any new players – and the squad really needed them, but the way we are now, with Zeman at the helm, I would actually be very content with building a squad with the youth we have and securing a few of the players already on the books. We do probably need a new centre-back, and perhaps a new full back, but no more than that for me.

@simonkjaer1989: "Many of U ask about my future. Really dont know. Still want 2 stay in #asroma but happy 2 hear about other interesting clubs and countries!"
All the abbonamento talk in Rome is crazy at the moment. Everyone wants to go to the stadio again. Friends of mine who haven't been in years are interested again.
My one is safe and sound, I'm sure you'll all be delighted to hear.
By the by, anyone coming to Rome and looking for tickets in the future might be better off at he via appia store, rather than than the piazza colona one. I find them much, much friendlier. Perhaps it's because they're not so busy, but any time I've gone to get a ticket for my girlfriend or a buddy, and when I wanted to swap the seat of my season ticket, they were really helpful. Just my 2c.
Maro- I'm happy to be rid of Menez and Mirko. I would have liked to have gotten more for Vuci. Menez is a lazy but talented player.
As for the Mercato Ed, I doubt we will be seeing much action. CB is an absolute must. I have a feeling most of our kitty will be spent buying back our co owned players.
Its great news about the ticket sales. Its all about the Zemanlandia, baby. Its great what a bit of promise of exciting football and hype can do.
Yeh I agree, DCG. Who that centre-back is remains to be seen, though. Ogbonna would be nice but it seems Torino are overpricing him and understandably they want him to stay cos they're back in Serie A. It'll more than likely be a defender from South America – say someone like Castan – who may not be a certain starter straight away.

Good article here highlighting five players from our primavera who will likely be part of the pre-season training camp at Riscone and who have the best chance of impressing Zeman and be part of the first team next season.
On top of these, of course, there are also those out on loan or co-ownership to consider, those like Caprari, Florenzi, Bertolacci, Antei, Crescenzi and Sini.
The Future of Roma with five kids / Wednesday, June 20, 2012 09:17
(Corriere dello Sport-A.Ghiacci) From Luis Enrique to Zeman one thing will definitely not change: Roma, by a decision made long ago, will continue to focus on youth.
Even our home-grown players, without necessarily sending them out on loan to gain experience around Italy. And this year, the Primavera of Alberto De Rossi, has grown to the maximum age, born between 1992 and 1993. In the last two years the Giallorossi lads have won the league and Italian Cup, and as usual will continue to churn out more very interesting prospects. (...) And then we'll discover who from the Primavera will surely go to the training camp with Zeman and the first team. It will then be up to the technician to assess their qualities, reliability and level of improval. But Junior Tallo, Nico Lopez, Loïc Nego, Federico Viviani and Valerio Verre are those who have proven they deserve a chance: and they will. In addition to these there may be others, including those already out on loan and those growing out of the Primavera. But they are the five on which Roma want to bet. Here is why.
VIVIANI: Federico Viviani, 20, is the same age as Erik Lamela. Captain of the last Primavera, he was praised last year by Luis Enrique. With the Spaniard he racked up his first appearances for Roma, 6 in the league and 2 in the Europa League. With the team of Alberto De Rossi, meanwhile, in the league and cup he played 18 times, scoring 12 goals. In ritiro he will try to convince Zeman and Roma not to send him out on loan. He feels ready. And if the project is really ready to deploy an intermediate for Daniele De Rossi as he has shown with Italy against Ireland.
NEGO: Loïc Nego , 21, was signed last year from Nantes. He should have be an option for full-back already with Luis Enrique but he was never considered. For the Primavera he played 26 games and scored 4 goals in the league and Italian cup and has made a difference and will probably will have the opportunity to show off to Zeman in ritiro. Technically he has the right attributes for the 4-3-3 of the 'boemo' technician and if Roma is watching then they will show faith in him. We have to learn if there is still faith in him. Otherwise, in mid-July, he will be sold.
LOPEZ NICO: Nico Lopez will be 19 next October. His signing was strongly supported by Walter Sabatini, who had threatened to take him to Trigoria in the diplomatic case against his Uruguayan club, Nacional di Montevideo, who raised a ruckus when they realised that the boy had arrived in Italy. A wide attacker, he appeared in the Primavera of another planet, with 15 goals in 12 games. The only question mark concerns him physically, as he's yet to fully develop. Technically, however, he has shown all the promise that was seen in his homeland.
TALLO: Junior Tallo, 20-years-of-age toward the end of 2012, is still in between Roma and Chievo. Roma, however, is in talks with the Campedelli club to purchase his entire ownership. Last year you could not understand why, with 21 goals in 22 games, he had not been taken into more consideration for the first team. In the end however, despite the characteristics of a pure striker who recently got used to the tactics of Luis Enrique, he made his debut in Serie A with a a total of 3 appearances. Zeman will test his capabilities in ritiro.
VERRE: With his 18 years, Valerio Verre is the youngest of the group. But unlike so many of the other young Giallorossi, along with Viviani he was picked to go to Riscone by Luis Enrique last season. At Trigoria there are many who are willing to bet on the abilities of this all-round midfielder who would be still old enough to play in the Primavera next season. Roma, however, convinced that his characteristics will fit perfectly with Zeman's tactics and will spend another summer with the big boys. And now he was the only one who wore the new jersey: he was chosen as the model on the day of the presentation.
-----------
also talks about the future of five other young players who's co-ownerships have to be sorted out: Citro, Frasca, Massimo, Malomo and Stoian.
Ok, so I've done up a Roma squad list, which is all a bit mad, and which I plan on updating every now and then when players arrive or leave. Zeman has stated he wouldn't like more than 25 players in his first-team squad to work with. At present, going by the list below, there are 18 players in the squad, but of course its hard to define exactly who is in and who is out at this stage, as well as what primavera players will be involved. Anyway, this is roughly what it looks like now, which will all probably change dramatically by the start of the season anyway, but nevertheless, I'll try keep track of it. Let us know of any howlers on my part, grazie.
UNKNOWN Julio Sergio - Returning from loan at Lecce, likely to leave Kjaer - Loan expiring from Wolfsburg, likely to stay Heinze - Hopefully ran over by truck, or return home to Argentina Pizarro - Returning from loan at Man City, future unclear Gago - Loan expiring, option to buy expired on 7/6/12, likely gone Brighi - Returning from loan at Atalanta, likely to leave Marquinho - Loan expiring 30 June, buy or let go Guberti - Returning from loan at Torino, likely to leave Borriello - Returning from loan at Rube, likely to leave Okaka - Returning from loan at Parma, likely to leave ------------------------------------------------
Is any of this lost in translation? From trying to read the full interview with vocegiallorossa.it it doesn't sound too bad (compared to the article below, there's lot of shit in the english media about it).
Daniele De Rossi attracted to 'interesting ' Premiershit / Updated: Thursday, 21 Jun 2012 07:46
Daniele De Rossi has admitted he is attracted by the Barclays Premiershit ahead of Italy's European Championship clash with England. De Rossi, who signed a new five-year contract with Roma in February, appeared to reignite speculation about his future yesterday when he claimed English football was "more interesting" than its Italian counterpart.
The midfielder has previously been linked with Manchester City and Manchester United and claimed he had received several offers to defect to the Premiershit. He said: "I have received many offers from English football. And I must say that I feel attraction for it.
"I like English football very much. I think now it's probably more interesting than Italian football. There are lots of outstanding and talented players, as is the case for Spain as well."
De Rossi's versatility makes him particularly attractive for potential suitors, with the 28-year-old having played both in defence and midfield for club and country this season. He admitted he preferred the midfield anchor role, a position that would put him in direct confrontation with his "idol" in Sunday's quarter-final.
De Rossi revealed he dreamt of playing more like England captain Gerrard, who has shone for Roy Hodgson's men during Euro 2012. He said: "Steven Gerrard has always been my idol. Since 10 years ago, he is among the best in the world. You see Gerrard defending and attacking here and there. I would like to be able to play more like that."
Italy boss Cesare Prandelli must decide whether to unleash Mario Balotelli on England this weekend. The Manchester City striker is notorious for testing the patience of managers and team-mates alike.
De Rossi could not have summed up the mixed feelings towards the forward better today as Balotelli's name once again dominated another press conference. Asked about the "scandals" that have dogged Balotelli since his move to England, De Rossi said: "Mario and his tabloids issue? Ask him.
"I don't know if he's bothered, or maybe he is just feeding them too much. Of course, sometimes, he commits some mistakes off the pitch. But it's his responsibility. He simply has to accept the manager's decision."
