Inter chief Massimo Moratti has admitted that Douglas Maicon could end up at Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
The Brazilian has been linked with the French outfit given that his contract at San Siro will expire in June 2013.
“I don’t know yet if Maicon could go to Paris,” the oil baron noted. “First of all we will have to decide whether to sell him, but I do see that they are putting together a great squad.”
The capital outfit are on the verge of completing deals for Milan centre-back Thiago Silva and Napoli forward Ezequiel Lavezzi.
Turning to players who could be on their way into San Siro, Moratti confirmed interest in Sebastian Giovinco – co-owned by Parma and Juventus – as well as Sao Paulo star Luca.
“Who doesn’t like a player such as Giovinco? Lucas, meanwhile, is an idea, but one of many right now.”
The Beneamata have also been paired with a bid for Siena’s Mattia Destro, a striker who is owned by Genoa. The latter also have a 50 per cent share in Inter youth striker Samuele Longo.
“Mattia is a really strong lad,” Moratti continued. “However, we have Longo who is building an important future.
“He’s not quite a jewel just yet, but he will be in the very near future.”
Inter youth team striker Samuele Longo will play for Genoa in 2012-13, the Marassi outfit have confirmed.
The 20-year-old spent this season netting goals for the Nerazzurri Primavera side, but he’s co-owned with Genoa.
The two clubs have held transfer talks over the last 48 hours and Genoa CEO Pietro Lo Monaco is adamant that the Under-21 international will move to the port city.
“I can guarantee that Longo will be playing for us next season,” the former Catania official stated on Wednesday.
“His valuation has risen, but this did not prove to be an obstacle in our intentions.”
Longo could, in theory, star in attack alongside Ciro Immobile, the striker co-owned with Juventus who spent this season on loan with Pescara.
Inter are stepping up their bidding war with Juventus for Aleksandar Kolarov, offering €10m to Manchester City.
Former Lazio wide man Kolarov hinted this week that he would like a return to Serie A in order to get more playing time.
The Bianconeri had been the first to show an interest in Kolarov, but according to La Gazzetta dello Sport this morning, Inter are surging ahead.
The Nerazzurri hope to tempt Manchester City with a €10m offer, which is an improvement on the €8m reportedly turned down by the Premiershit champions in recent weeks.
It’s also possible Inter will include defender Andrea Ranocchia in the deal.
Matias Silvestre is reportedly just a few steps away from completing a €11m transfer from Palermo to Inter.
The Argentine centre-back only moved to the Rosanero last summer from Sicilian rivals Catania, but again finds himself in demand this season.
Massimo Moratti’s Nerazzurri have been widely expected to make a move to shore up their defence for next season and, as Calcionews24.com report, they are on the verge of completing a €11m deal for the 27-year-old.
It is believed that Palermo will receive €7m of that as cash, with the other €4m paid through handing over the remaining 50 per cent of goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano’s contract to the Rosanero.
The two clubs are understood to be meeting tomorrow to finalise the move, where it is thought just the finer points will be ironed out.
Longo is ours 100%. Paid quite a bit for 50% of a 20 year old..but maybe this time it will be worth it. Silvestre is almost ours says Zampa...but his agent was reported to be at dinner with Galliani...Siena are continuously getting their share for Destro higher...Could there be Juve after this?
Strange thing. Siena now own half Destro but they cannot sell their own half to anyone wiyhout Genoa's consent. I do think something happened last night during a meeting between Moratti and Preziosi. We got our 50% of Longo back from Genoa and after that, Preziosi xame out saying Inter ain't interested in Destro. A couple of hours later, Siena buy their own half...
Destro situation is all about money ,siena been bumpimg the prize up ,genoa was going to give 6 million to siena they wanted more,at this stage Destro prize gone much over is really value and i think he will end up playing for rome ,is very promesing but who know if can make the jump to for big club . One thing is certanly is price is very much inflated at the moment
Sporting director Marco Branca has revealed Inter’s transfer philosophy this summer, as well as plans for Mattia Destro, Matias Silvestre and Lucas Moura.
Since taking a greater role in transfer strategy and financial management at the club two years ago, Branca has worked steadily to reduce the club’s wage bill, as well raise money to fund transfers by selling others in the squad.
Where the club have spent €70m on players since the end of 2009-10, they have also recouped €90m, as a strong focus on UEFA’s initiative Financial Fair Play has been taken.
Discussing this ahead of the summer 2012 campaign, Branca has admitted that finances will once again play a part in the Nerazzurri’s dealings in the market.
“Inter are full of ideas, this is not lacking, but maybe we lack support for all those ideas,” the ds told Tele Radio Stereo on Thursday.
“But, in having many ideas, if the first is not feasible, we will try to implement the second, then the third.
“This year we have to make choices that may be from an economic point of view that can bear fruit within a few seasons. In comparison to larger clubs across Europe, such as the Spanish, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea, we have the same costs but in fact half the revenue.
“So, we have to make choices that are even more painful, but necessary, because these costs are no longer sustainable.
“Inter does not want to hide. Our efforts in the market are to give our fans a competitive team. This is our goal to be pursued until the end of August.”
The Nerazzurri have already signed Rodrigo Palacio from Genoa and this week looked set to be on course to also bring in Destro from the Grifone.
However, Siena’s last-minute unexpected decision to take a 50 per cent share in the player yesterday has invited Juventus and Roma back into contention for the young Italian forward.
Reflecting on this, Branca hinted that Inter are prepared to look elsewhere if the valuation agreed with Genoa is not reflected with Siena.
“The contractual status of Destro, between Genoa and Siena, does not directly concern us. Some time ago we had a talk with Genoa to enter into a partnership over Destro, who is a player we know well.
“But, we must now return to talk about valuation, because we are thinking about Destro but we must always put in front of that a price tag.
“Destro is a player of great potential. It is true that there is a crisis over who owns him, but the quality of Mattia is not debatable, but, economic issues are conditional.
“We are also evaluating other options for the attack. I would like to clarify that our relations with Genoa are good, because Genoa have a good relationship with most of the clubs. [President Enrico] Preziosi is a football fan, I think that the example is that Milan also have a good rapport with him.”
Inter are also in talks with Palermo to sign Matias Silvestre, but Branca distanced himself from President Maurizio Zamparini’s assertion that the deal was ‘99 per cent complete’.
“I appreciate the optimism of Zamparini, but the Silvestre operation is not ‘99 per cent complete’. First, we must settle with other players who would like to leave the squad because they would not find space with us next season.”
There was also a cautious tone for the possibility of seeing Sao Paulo’s Lucas pull on an Inter shirt this summer.
“Inter are in a position where to have to spend €15-20m on a player, a lot of thinking must be done. This is valid for Lucas at Sao Paulo.
“I understand that it is a difficult dynamic for some fans to digest.”
