Poor Montella doesn't sound happy. Saying its "better to remain silent". His move to Fiorentina is a strange one. I don't think Fiorentina had to pay any severance fee to Catania to get him – is that correct? Makes you wonder what went on with our attempts to get him. Did Catania really demand a fee, and if not and he was available for free, would we have appointed him ahead of Zeman? Fiorentina is a very tough job, it could make or break him.

«Ci sono trattative - spiega - che riescono, altre no per vari motivi. La mia storia con la Roma è stata resa pubblica non da me ed è stata una delle tante trattative che non è andata in porto». Ora conta solo la storia in viola. «Serviranno tempo e pazienza. Spero di allenare Jovetic, ma bisogna capire se è motivato». Accanto a Montella c'è Pradè, un altro ex romanista che sul futuro del montenegrino non può sbilancarsi: «Vogliamo trattenere Jovetic. Poi ovviamente subentra la volonta del calciatore, che deve essere però espressa pubblicamente. Comunque finora - chiude Pradè - non abbiamo ricevuto offerte».

What's moaning about those comments? He had to address that question in a way that defused the pretty obvious sense that Fiorentina was his second choice (that is,that there was somewhere else he was hoping to go only a couple of weeks ago). And those comments seem a pretty good way of doing just that - he can't pretend he wasn't close to coming to Roma (a club towards whom Fiorentina fans aren't instinctively all that warmly inclined - so Cerci's battles), but he's also got to give the sense that that door is firmly closed and he's not particularly worried about that.

Yeh I don't think he's moaning, really. Its a difficult one, because he clearly can't hide his displeasure at not getting the Roma job and is a bit bitter over it, which is fair enough, while at the same time he's landed a new job at Fiorentina. I think thats what he means by "[its] better to remain silent", and not talk too much about it, and maybe more will be revealed in time when the dust settles. I hope the Fiorentina fans don't give him a hard time all the same, and accept him as the talented young manager he is and not hold grudges over his past.

He's still primed as our future manager whenever Zeman decides to call it a day.

Do we really know if he was that close to Roma? Baldini said otherwise. It's clear he could be had for cheap.

There is also a lot circumstantial evidence tht he is not the type of coach they are looking for. We heard a lot from Montella's side about wanting Roma but very little from Roma about Montella.

Where will Totti end up under Zeman? Up front through the middle? Down the left? Or as regista at the base of the midfield 3? Didn't he say a couple of years ago that that's where he thought Totti would probably end up finishing his career?

It also seems that profondita' is out and tagli is to be the new word on the Roma tactical street.

It's certainly an interesting question. Each time he's answered a question about Totti he's said he's the best player he's ever coached but that he doesn't care about names or past deeds.

Zeman has shown himself as willing to swim against the current even if it means drowning far from shore.
