Oh, yes, I have no difficulty with one's wanting to own and wear your team's maglia. I remember my first All Black jumper which I wore with great pride. The All Blacks, though, don't change their jumper each year - what a terrible thought. Of course once in a while they bring in a new jumper, but not every year, and not with two away strips each year too. That's the part that I find most appalling and so clearly exploitative.

I know what you're saying about it being great to be able to have the kit, especially when you're young, but the prices are scandalous. I have my fair share of jerseys, but a while back I just stopped liking them so much. I'm crazy for the Roma/Kappa stuff though. You can wear it, look somewhat respectable and yet still annoy any passing laziali.

Though the Roma Casuals amused me as they wore similar clothes to what you'd see Casuals here wearing, but they still had scarves and stuff on, thus completely missing the point.

Good mercato article round-up here (in english below). At long last, some talk of the defence, praise jasus. At least three or four new defenders, perhaps. Talk of trying to get Kjaer on loan again, or at least on the cheap.

Also says Marquinho will be redeemed, and there is interest from Genoa for Greco and maybe an offer from Brazil for Simplicio.

Baldini: «Subito la difesa»

(Il Romanista - C. Zucchelli) - «La difesa sarà il primo reparto in cui interverremo. Il budget di mercato? Prima la ricapitalizzazione entro il 30 giugno, poi vedremo. Privilegiamo i giocatori giovani, ma non significa che arriveranno solo giovani».

Più chiaro di così Franco Baldini non poteva essere. Nel giorno della presentazione delle nuove maglie e all’indomani del primo vero vertice di mercato con Zeman, il dg della Roma allarga l’orizzonte al mercato.

Sistemata la questione dell’allenatore e a meno di un mese dall’inizio del raduno la società giallorossa sta lavorando su due fronti: da una parte la necessità, espressa anche da Zeman, di ridurre la rosa attuale, dall’altra l’esigenza di intervenire in quei ruoli in cui le lacune la scorsa stagione sono state evidenti. Le decisioni, sottolinea Baldini, verranno prese di comune accordo con Zeman: «Credo - ha detto - che ci sia un’ottima comunione di intenti soprattutto tra lui e Sabatini. Mi fa sperare questo, perché credo che alla fine saranno centrati gli obiettivi di entrambe le parti, quelli che l’allenatore chiede e quelli che alla società sarà permesso di conseguire. Le cose sono iniziate nel migliore dei modi, ci sono già trattative avviate a cui daremo seguito appena possibile ».

Un budget preciso non c’è: la Roma comprerà ciò di cui ha bisogno. E in attesa della ricapitalizzazione da fare entro il 30 giugno il dg precisa: «Top player? I nostri sono pronti per sbocciare. Proseguiremo con la linea giovane, ma questo non significa che arriveranno soltanto giovani. Nomi però non ne faccio anche perché siamo appena all’inizio». Uno viene fatto a lui ed è quello di Giuseppe Rossi: l’attaccante italo-americano piaceva eccome alla Roma ma i due gravi infortuni che ha avuto hanno impedito sul nascere qualsiasi trattativa. Almeno per ora. Baldini spiega: «Dire che saremmo pronti a offrire certe cifre (si parlava di 10 milioni più bonus al Villarreal, ndr) ha poco senso. Rossi ha avuto un infortunio che non soltanto lo terrà fermo ancora per qualche mese ma si dovrà sottoporre a un’altra operazione. Nel migliore dei casi sarà pronto per marzo dell’anno prossimo, quindi questa operazione non è credibile. L’interesse c’è stato in passato, prima che si facesse male, ma le cose sono cambiate e vanno riesaminate. Non possiamo spacciarlo per obiettivo di mercato».

Obiettivi concreti sono, invece, almeno tre o quattro difensori: due, Dodò e Castan, sono praticamente presi. Per altri due - un centrale e un esterno destro - deve ancora partire l’assalto: «Stiamo esaminando attentamente tanti giocatori - spiega ancora Baldini - era stato notato che c’era qualche problema in difesa e quello sarà il primo reparto al quale verrà posto riparo. Zeman ha ridato entusiasmo alla piazza? Noi vogliamo dare corpo a questo entusiasmo e vogliamo prendere i giocatori giusti per farlo».

Sul nome del terzino destro c’è il più stretto riserbo mentre per quanto riguarda un altro centrale da prendere, oltre a Castan, tutto dipenderà da quello che succederà con Juan e Kjaer. Il primo ha fatto sapere di voler restare alla Roma ma a Trigoria sono tutt’altro che convinti e sperano che il Flamengo si faccia sotto mentre per il secondo Sabatini continua ad essere in contatto col Wolfsburg. La Roma vorrebbe o confermare un altro anno di prestito o, in virtù dei soldi spesi già un anno fa, tesserarlo a titolo definitivo per un paio di milioni. Altri nomi sono quelli di Astorie Silvestre, per i quali Cagliari e Palermo chiedono almeno 6 milioni.

Marquinho verrà riscattato. Nei prossimi giorni o direttamente Sabatini, o il suo collaboratore Massara, con un altro emissario romanista voleranno in Brasile per mettere tutto nero su bianco con la Fluminense. Si cerca un altro centrocampista, Moussa Sissoko resta sempre un nome buono - buonissimo - mentre Stekelenburg, dall’Olanda, parla così di Eriksen, suo ex compagno dell’Ajax, centrocampista offensivo di 20 anni che ha detto che vorrebbe giocare nella Roma: «È un grande calciatore ed è migliorato molto rispetto al primo anno all’Ajax. Non bisogna però mettergli troppa pressione addosso perché è giovane ». Da segnalare, in uscita, l’interesse sempre più forte del Genoa per Greco e, pare, un’offerta dal Brasile per Simplicio.

È il reparto da sistemare con meno urgenza. Totti e Lamela non si toccano, Osvaldo quasi (a meno di un’offerta importante da almeno 16 milioni con bonus), Borini e Bojan sono due incognite. Nel frattempo, mentre Destro è sempre un obiettivo e i rapporti con Preziosi sono ormai quotidiani, resta da piazzare Borriello col suo pesantissimo ingaggio. Okaka resterà a Parma, Caprari è in bilico tra la scelta di restare un altro anno a Pescara e quella di tornare a Roma per seguire Zeman. A proposito di giovani punte, Sabatini si sta interessando a Luca Scapuzzi, attaccante di 21 anni cresciuto nel Milan e adesso nelle riserve del Manchester City.

It's well connected and not a million miles from the club' roots in testaccio. I know it must be tempting to go father, but for the sake Of the club's identity, I hope they don't. That site out on the via aurelia would be hell. I actually think I'd have to think long and hard about going to games if it were there.
