The weird thing about Zeman is that there was all this talk about building for the future, and that we had a longterm project, blahdi blah, and then we get a guy who is only likely to stay one year (well, so did the last guy, but that wasn't the bill we were sold at the time he signed). So next year, we'll likely have a double silly season again.

I will be SHOCKED if Zeman only stays 1 year. Absolutely SHOCKED!!!! He is not coming with the intention of staying one year and Baldini is not hiring him with the intention of staying 1 year. 100%. He likes 1-year deals because that is how he rolls, but believe you me, unless shit happens, he's staying for AT LEAST 2-3 years. Mark my words.

Why not get a coach that will stay longer? Nobody fits. LE failed. AVB wants 100m signings. Most good/successful managers are more results oriented than product oriented. The younger ones like Montella are not ready yet. Zeman is very happy working with good, young players and doesn't need 100m transfers. The current project is focused on developing these good, young players and there are only a handful of trustworthy coaches that really like that role. Zeman is one of them. If he can work his magic for 2-3 years, he can turn the club over to a Montella-type or even an Ancellotti type since by then, our current young talented players should blossom into stars. If it goes the way it is intended, it should work beautifully.

This says Florenzi will play a part of Zeman's first team, and that he's also a big admirer of Verre. Also Viviani, Loic Nego and Nico Lopez. Music to my ears. And feck this, we don't need a mercato – we don't need to buy anyone, expect for a centre-back.

We've a ridiculous amount of midfielders, actually. Zeman will have a few calls to make. As we know he favours three in the middle and likes them to be energetic and cover the whole pitch.

Youth: Florenzi / Bertolacci / Viviani / Verre / Stoian

Did I miss anyone? Can't see Taddei continuing as a full-back, perhaps just back-up. You could say the futures of Simplicio and Greco are in doubt, too, while question marks remain over all of Gago / Marquinho / Pizarro / Brighi. If both Florenzi and Bertolacci are going to part of Zemans' Roma, as they are perhaps two of the youngsters who best fit his system, then others will need to make way. Viviani may be out for a loan spell (and just a loan, mind), which would do him some good, and perhaps also Verre as he's still quite young. And all this not including any midfielders Zeman may want to bring in.

Just quickly, i'd like to see something roughly like this (assuming no one comes in): we'd probably need six midfielders, say – DDR / Pjanic / Florenzi / Bertolacci / Perrotta / Greco. And maybe Verre or Viviani too from the primavera. I wouldn't keep Gago (tactics) or Marquinho (nice player, sure, but meh), let Simplico go if we got an offer, and likewise Pizza and Brighi (although i wouldn't mind if either hung around).

This conversation is music to my ears. I would love if 2 between Florenzi, Viviani and Bertolacci make the first team. Looking like Gago won't be. I don't see Simplicio, Perrotta, Pizarro, Taddei or Brighi being consistent with the project. Nothing against them....they are all good squad players but this project is about Zeman developing a young core that can be competitive in Europe for many years to come. Of these midfielders, I can see Zeman keeping Perrotta as a veteran positive influence (almost a player/coach) and Taddei (as a utility man and as a good example of hard work). Simplicio, Pizarro and Brighi just don't fit and we should try to use them in exchange for players that would fit better (e.g. Insigne, Verratti, Destro, Capuano, Silvestre, Romangioli, etc....). Zeman also needs to decide if Greco fits or not. If not, he is another good (not great) midfielder that can have a lot of value as a trading chip.

As for A midfield 4, all homegrown. It's a nice dream but very unlikely that they'll all pan out. Maybe 1 will be a starter, 1 a squad player. But the odds are so stacked against growing 3 MFers around the same age with the quality to play CL football. Especially given Petrucci was supposed to be our stud and that cunt left.

verre should probably go on loan to b. marquinho can be kept as a wildcard, his wages are low as fuck anyway. i agree with loazzi, perrotta and taddei should stay.

I'm all for playing an attacking style and developing our young players, Zee Man just strikes me as an odd choice for Baldini. Then again, I agree that there were reasons that others wouldn't have worked, so Forza Zeman and all that.
