Inter will reportedly offer Andrea Stramaccioni a three-year contract to remain as Coach of the San Siro giants.
President Massimo Moratti yesterday suggested that the tactician would stay after collecting 17 points from his eight Serie A matches so far.
Following that statement, whispers are starting to circulate with regard to the package that the former Primavera boss will be offered.
Stramaccioni, just 36, could be asked to sign a deal until June 2015 worth €450,000 a campaign by Moratti. The activation of certain bonus clauses would see that figure rise.
The former Roma youth sector employee signed a €150,000 annual salary contract until 2014 last summer when he was appointed as the Nerazzurri’s Primavera boss.
Diego Forlan’s father has confirmed the Inter striker is wanted by a series of Brazilian clubs including “Sao Paulo, Corinthians, Gremio and Atletico Mineiro.”
There were reports on Tuesday that the Uruguayan was considering a move back to South America after failing to settle at San Siro.
“The clubs tracking my son are Sao Paulo, Corinthians, Gremio and right now Atletico Mineiro have also joined in,” Pablo Forlan told Lancenet.
“Diego would have no problems adapting to Brazilian football, but he has a contract until July 2013 with Inter and has always respected deals with his clubs.
“The Nerazzurri are making him play in a new position and, considering this moment in his career, it is difficult to adapt.”
There have been so many rumors flying around about Lavezzi. What do you guys think about him? Is he worth the near 30m we would need to spend. To be honest, I don't think so. Yes, he is 27 and at the peak of his career but 30m is a lot IMO. If we are spending 30m, I would spend on someone like Gotze. Very young and super talented.
1) well done to the team for the derby ... (if only we had shown half that determination throughout the season). 2) well done to the Moratti for confirming Stramacioni for next season. 3) a big thankyou to the great IVAN RAMIRO CORDOBA.
Re: Lavezzi would be an excellent buy .... forget getting players from abroad. The Serie A has lost its appeal ... Is he worth 30m ... I don't know, but in today's market, if Sanchez and Pastore are worth 40m, I don't think 30m is a scandal.
There are 90 minutes left of the season and four teams can still finish third and qualify for the Champions League.
Udinese are in pole position for third. They’ll achieve that target with a win or even a draw at Catania. A loss could still be enough if Napoli don’t win and Lazio-Inter ends in a draw.
Lazio, currently in fourth and two points adrift, will finish third if they beat Inter and Udinese – who have a better head-to-head record against them – lose.
Napoli, fifth with three points to make up, will celebrate if they beat Siena, Udinese lose and Lazio don’t win.
Inter, meanwhile, can only celebrate if they beat Lazio, Udinese lose and Napoli fail to win.
Udinese are in control of their own destiny as a point will be enough, while the other three need wins and a favour or two from elsewhere.
Inter are ready to listen to offers for Lucio despite the fact that he recently extended his contract until June 2014.
The Brazilian, now 33, was given a new two-year deal earlier this term, but the Nerazzurri are reportedly ready to let him go.
Stories on Friday are suggesting that the former Bayern Munich centre-back is liked by Paris Saint-Germain. Clubs in Brazil are also said to be interested.
Lucio, one goal in 33 Serie A ties this term, may be sacrificed in order for Andrea Ranocchia to get a regular game in the next campaign.
The Italian, signed at a total cost of almost €20m, has played in just 12 top-flight games for the Beneamata this term.
Atletico Mineiro deny a deal to sign him is close, but still claim that Massimo Moratti has promised to let Diego Forlan leave Inter this summer.
After enduring a difficult single season in Italy with the Nerazzurri, Forlan has been heavily linked with a move back to South America, with Brazilian sides Mineiro and Sao Paulo understood to be in prime contention to sign him.
Following a claim from the player’s agent earlier this week that Mineiro are in prime contention for the former Atletico Madrid forward, the club have confirmed that they are holding negotiations.
Their club President also revealed that Inter cohort Moratti has made a commitment about the player.
“I went to Montevideo to speak to Forlan and his agent. We talked and now expect to solve a case that is quite complicated,” Alexandre Kalil is quoted as saying on Brazilian radio this Friday.
“Inter must release the player, moreover there is a promise from President Moratti to hand him over.”
Some reports suggested that the club would pay as much as €7m for the forward.
“These are lies from the Italian Press. It’s a complex sale, there are other clubs in contention. We are in the running and continue to fight for him, but for now I am not 100 per cent sure that we will succeed.”
Andrea Stramaccioni feels Inter’s do-or-die match with Lazio tomorrow is “the prelude to a rebirth. We are ready for battle,” but without Wesley Sneijder and Mauro Zarate.
The Nerazzurri can still qualify for the Champions League, but need a series of results to go their way as well as victory at the Olimpico.
“I think this is the prelude to a rebirth. The season remains negative, but this is the prelude to Lazio-Inter and also the hunger of the Nerazzurri people to become great again in Italy and Europe,” said the Coach.
However, he has to face this trip to Rome without Sneijder and has decided to drop Lazio-owned Zarate, while goalkeeper Julio Cesar is suspended.
“It will be an Inter side ready for battle. Wes had already picked up a problem yesterday, did some tests today and I didn’t want to risk him. I always wanted players who can give 101 per cent and sadly Sneijder won’t be in Rome with us.
“I left out Zarate as a technical choice, while Diego Forlan has the usual problem with his ankle. We’re missing some quality players, so it will be a different Inter. What is Zarate’s future? Ask the club...”
Stramaccioni was promoted from the Primavera youth team as a stopgap solution after Claudio Ranieri’s dismissal, but the 4-2 victory over Milan earned him confirmation for next season.
“I’d like Coutinho and Jonathan back at the club. I already said we saw a complete Inter in the derby, who were always attacking and kept the ball well. We ran very few risks, especially in the opening 35 minutes, which is even more impressive considering we were facing Milan in a crucial match for the Scudetto. The derby is behind us now, so we must focus on Lazio-Inter and then the future.
“We have said many times this has not been a positive campaign. We will fight to the last second to reach the Champions League. It is objectively a difficult ask, we know that, but all together we’re working to bring Inter back to the role of leaders in Italy. That includes me and the President, together.”
Inter squad:Castellazzi, Orlandoni, Di Gennaro; Cordoba, Zanetti, Lucio, Maicon, Ranocchia, Samuel, Faraoni, Juan Jesus, Nagatomo; Alvarez, Guarin, Poli, Cambiasso, Duncan, Crisetig, Pazzini, Milito, Longo
Javier Zanetti holds on to hope Inter can beat Lazio and get into the Champions League, as Andrea Stramaccioni has revitalised the squad.
“Unfortunately it does not only depend on us anymore, but I believe we can make the first step and then wait to hear what happens,” said the captain.
The Nerazzurri must beat Lazio at the Olimpico, hope Udinese lose at Catania and that Napoli fail to beat Siena.
“Still, being in this position seemed impossible a month ago. We know it’s difficult, but we are accustomed to the idea anything can happen in football. If we don’t finish in the top three, then I think Udinese deserve that spot, because they have been the most consistent.”
Inter beat Milan 4-2 in the derby, a result that helped the club confirm Stramaccioni on the bench for next season.
“Now our confidence has returned. We like Stramaccioni, are well set out on the pitch and you can tell in training he has clear ideas. The only thing we want is to do well for this club and make it a winning side again,” he told Inter Channel.
“We all can’t wait for next season, as in our minds is the hunger to turn things round and fight for the places we have become used to holding in recent years.”
Stramaccioni is their third Coach of the campaign after Gian Piero Gasperini and Claudio Ranieri were both fired.
“We all wanted things to work, but unfortunately could not be consistent. Gasperini’s ideas that he wanted for this team in the opening games were not up to the task of what we were all expecting. We lost many matches and that is why the decision was made to change.
“Ranieri arrived, a Coach with a lot of experience and we were able to put together a run of positive results. Once again, at a certain point we fell and couldn’t get back up again.
“Stramaccioni arrived and is still very young – three years younger than me! – but with clear ideas that are allowing us to at least hope in the final 90 minutes to reach the Champions League.”
Inter have been stuttering ever since Jose Mourinho left with the Treble under his belt and at the time Rafa Benitez said it was because the squad was ‘sated’ by success.
“That irritated me, because I could see that wasn’t the case. I trained very day and above all saw the teammates I’d known for years and how hard they worked,” replied Zanetti.
“Don’t forget we won the Super Cup and the Club World Cup with Benitez, so if the squad was sated then we wouldn’t have managed that. Before passing judgement one has to know the causes of a problem and understand why things happen.”
Inter President Massimo Moratti has warned the club will only keep those players worthy of the Nerazzurri jersey.
The Beneamata are expected to make changes this summer after ending the campaign in sixth and thus failing to qualify for the Champions League.
“The plan for the re-start? Now we'll see, gradually,” he said outside of his office in the fashion capital of Italy.
“It's not as if we'll do it all today. Now we have a period in which we can reflect on the opportunities that are there and what we can do.
“Will we start with the confirmation of Coach Andrea Stramaccioni and defender Andrea Ranocchia? Add someone else and then we are done,” he smiled. “We'll start by confirming those who deserve to stay.”
The San Siro giants began the campaign with Scudetto ambitions, but they ended up hiring three different Coaches given their faltering results.
“More than one thing influenced the season and all the responsibility is in the choices. And then the choices went badly because the ones who were selected didn't perform well,” he added.
“Of course this all gives you experience. The fault? To a certain extent it was a combination of things, but it seems to me that the players always put forward their effort.”
Moratti stated earlier this season that he blamed first Coach Gian Piero Gasperini for the subsequent problems.
Gasperini, on the other hand, criticised the club’s movement in the summer transfer window.
