I really am surprised he couldn't take the heat. I know it's not as bad but there is a video somewhere of when he came back to Madrid for the first time as a Barca player and the abuse he was getting was unreal. I thought he was tougher. Allegedly his family was threatened somewhere as well. I can't remember where I read it but that's uncalled for.

Who ever it will be just sign them quick so they can get to work.

Luis Enrique has reportedly decided to leave Roma at the end of the season, as speculation mounts that he has informed his players so in training today.

The Spanish Coach was brought in last summer to implement a new style of play to the Giallorossi and was backed with investment in the market and support from the club’s directors.

However, things have taken a turn for the worse in recent weeks, with fans protesting against the team and critics in the media also turning on the Coach, leading to speculation that he could leave and his subsequent refusal to rule that out.

Pictures taken from Roma’s training session at Trigoria today show the Coach addressing the entire staff, where speculation is growing that he informed them of his decision to leave.

“I’m going. It is a great defeat that I was unable to convey my ideas,” Enrique reportedly told the assembled group. “I'm leaving Roma because I could not give 100 per cent. I made some choices and mistakes, I'm sorry.”

Several news outlets including Mediaset and the Corriere dello Sport are reporting that he will be leaving the club, although an official confirmation is yet to come.

Former Roma player Vincenzo Montella is the early favourite to succeed Enrique for next season, having previously coached at the club at the end of 2010-11 and having since impressed this term at Catania.

montella doesn't sound too bad. although, for some our better players, it probably does - i.e. borini (who can't fit into any 4231, really) and pjanic, who i don't see fitting into THE 4231. i think we may end up using a completely different formation, or significantly tweaking roles of the 4-2-3-1 of the past, unless we get a perrotta-like midfielder (or use marquinho there?) and play totti quite frequently.

bojan and lamela could maybe work as wingers - not so sure about osvaldo, although he could probably do okay if he ends up filling in for the totti-role from time to time. having a 17m sub is a luxury we can't afford at this point, though.

i'd take rosi over van der wiel, and would prefer to get a class left-back (bastos? he would've been perfect for le's system) instead. crescenzi/nego should be number 1 backups.

de rossi and bradley as the 2 holding midfielders? not so sure about that, but with pizarro in there for rotation with bradley, it could work out. also, aquilani could be interesting.

LE can go fuck himself. He has everyone's backing, from players to management, a summer to bring players he wants (something which he didn't get to do at the start), and he still walks away.

I just don't see Montella returning. Roma is a bit of a poisoned pill. Success is a Scudetto and the CL yet what are the chances? 3rd place is expected but hardly reasonable with the rise of Rube. So why come back when your likely to end up right back were you were the year prior, the scrap heap. Baldini camt claim to have faith in him and as Davit points out the players don't really fit his system now. While people clamor for an Italian fact is the fans will buy into the idea of a "project" less with a domestic coach and will see him as far more disposable.

I still think AVB makes the most sense for himself and Baldini. I hate the idea of it, but still think it makes sense.

And I think Montella can adapt. In fact, I've no doubt he will. Catania are not as easily moulded as this Roma side + new signings will be. And I'm sure he'd identify with a footballer like Borini.

no doubt, montella would be more flexible with his ideas than LE was. it's anyone's guess what next year's formation will be, really.

and, for the record, i don't see borini being suited for any formation but a 2 striker(ish) type. he's quite different from montella as a player, i think.

Well, they're not carbon copies, I mean I don't think players from different generations every really are, but he's still very young and they do share similar characteristics. I'd be confident in Montella getting the best out of him. The formation next year will be interesting, for sure.

I'm off to say a prayer for the new guy, whoever he will be.

I would have preferred him to stay instead of yet another year with a new manager. If they get Montella back, and don't have immediate results, what then? What about the 'golden boy' AVB? Same thing if they were to get Ancelotti (although I know he's not even being mentioned). If you get the guy whom everyone says they want, and things don't work out, do you fire him quickly, or go though another year of rebuilding?

I don't quite understand if he's saying that he couldn't implement his ideas because the players couldn't get it?
