I read that site a lot, out of habit I suppose, and the guys on there can write well enough, but they never do a whole lot more than just translate the italian press. I mean, "Has Roma's project failed?" draws you in, but he doesn't even attempt to answer it. You know what I mean? A lot of sports writing is like that, by which I mean pointless. I don't want to insult the guy, but what's he saying, exactly? That a journo in Rome said "such and such" and that the fans are angry. Not exactly news to anyone.

If you're getting paid to write, you should have your own opinions and at least try to answer your own questions. This is the fundamental difference in ability between a good writer and an average blogger.

Yeh I agree completely. Football Italia is a good site for news but thats really all it is – even if that link is from the 'blog' section, it reads as weekend news round-up more than an opinion piece. Pity there aren't any quality Roma blogs offering any real insight and opinion, ey?

To be honest, the reason I posted that article was because there was a 'discussion' on twitter (discussion is totally the wrong word, not sure what you'd call it, an exchange? Twitter is gay) where @Di_Elle (who's constant complaining about anyone who criticises Roma is getting very tiresome) insulted @RobPaton, the author of the piece, for writing it. Thats why I said I found it hard to find any fault with the piece, everything he said in it is accurate (if not offering much opinion, like you said). Some people need to be more aware that criticism is not always a bad thing.

v Chievo, Rosi is out, he hurt his ankle again in training today, and Stek is also still out with a sore shoulder. Bojan is ok. Viviani is back in the squad which is good to see, along with Tallo, Pisitella, Pigliacelli and some other fresh faced kid named Cicinho.

Agree totally Ed. Nothing good was ever done without some helpful criticism along the way. Not being willing to criticise because you think it makes you a bad fan is worse than being a knee-jerk reactionist. You need balance.

You know what else I hate? People who criticise – or "comment on" – a team's performance by only considering what the one team did or failed to do. They're always at it on Football Italia. By definition, losing possession of the ball is a failure, but it's funny that these errors are only pointed to when someone's trying to prove how shit they think a team is. What about the opposition? How do they play? From where I was sitting, Roma played well enough against Napoli, but they were up against tough opposition, who press and can run and pass well themselves. And we were short of men. Roma are not the finished product, so to just say "well, they lost possession a lot" and criticise them for that is foolish, and unfair to a side like Napoli that's been under construction for some time. Reading about Real Madrid & Barca accounts there, which offer some interesting perspective for any fan who assumes that just "being" is enough to win (the Twitter crowd, I mean. The idiots); the amount of money – spent over years and years – involved is staggering. We're not Man United, or Barca or Milan or Bayern. We haven't had piles of money spent building teams over several seasons. We were in the shit the last few years, and probably only kept our heads above the excrement thanks to remarkable characters like Totti and DDR, who would have fucked off had they not been locals. Now we're clawing our way out of it, but it'll take time.

I like LE, and on the whole, I like this bunch of players (though we need more). We need to improve, but I'm reserving full judgement until I see what happens in the summer, and who's affected by this new match-fixing shite, and how badly.
