It was 0-0 at HT, when I posted that. It is Juve's to lose from here on in. They could've had this thing sealed months ago and had a nice cushion going into the last 7. I think it is funny Bonucci's goal saved Juve twice so far. How ironic it was Amauri with the game winner??

Decent-ish performance.

Palermo were very poor and offered nothing, so the game was really little more than an exercise in concentration.

The goals came, even if they should have come sooner, and Juve didn't have to spend too much energy getting the win.

Wow, even I counted us out too early. I'm glad we took advantage today, in the past we would have let that opportunity go to waste. Credit Conte because the last few weeks we've been playing to win, rather than playing not to lose. The team knows with the schedule Milan have we basically have to win every game. But, anything can happen, today is proof of that.

Regardless of the outcome, this Juve team has character and heart.

I have to agree with Tony as that's what I've said in the above post. We have players with the experience, not with the talent that's needed to either win it or go deep. It would be a miracle if they did but at least go deep into the tourney so you can get that money to reinvest in talent.

I forgot how little you know about sports Bagg10 (as im sure this complete lack of common sports sense extends to all sports you watch). You don't build a team around 23-25 year olds. Especially not in Italy. Juventus isn't in a re-building period, we are well past that. Teams like Juventus shouldn't have to REBUILD. We needed to have brought in experienced leaders who have been there and done that a long time ago. Players like Pirlo and Buffon are invaluable and it shows on the pitch. STOP obsessing over age. This isn't PES, there is a statistic that video games don't take into account and it is the most important thing any player can have... it's called being a gamer.

You watch. On the big stage, Bonucci, Pepe, Matri, Caceres, De Ceglie, Elia, Giaccherini, Krasic, (insert young Juve player here) will struggle unless we surround them with experience. Balzaretti is cheap, has a reasonable salary and has the type of character we need in big games. He is a dependable defender and would share time with De Ceglie across 3 competitions (you have to consider that players get injured, tired and need rest). I don't trust De Ceglie against Chelsea, Man Utd, Barcelona, Real Madrid... he has plenty of time to earn that trust, but he is best used as a hard working half back who can help us grind out Serie A wins. He lacks quality in defense and crossing and that will get exposed in CL.

Continuously denying Nocerino's talent, tactical awareness and importance is idiotic. I am only honoring your "counter-points" because I am bored and lacking good calcio discussion, since I can't find quality discussion, I at least come here. Juventus doesn't need to be rebuilding. We need to just sign quality players who have class and character. Enough of these young player experiments that never work out. Let other teams develop, we will buy them when it's time and loan our own youngsters.

That being said... I heard a link to Merielles which is good. He is a solid player who will fit our system well. Who else have we been linked to? If we are going to stick with this 4-3-3, who is our RW? Surely, if Giovinco returns we either play him in the hole or on the left?

I just can't see a midfield anchored by Pirlo and lacking a true ball winner being able to shut down a world class side. Especially since only 1 team in the world has enough attack to not have to win the midfield battle with power. I highly doubt Giovinco, Vucinic, Matri, Pepe is the controlling, goal scoring machine that can keep up with the big guys. This system requires too much midfield support to be succesful on the big stage. This is concerning and must be addressed this off-season. This year has been cute, I hope we can hold out and win, but now it's time to get serious. A few bad signings and its 07-08 all over again. Losing is more contagious than winning.

Juve, primarily, need to realise that they are at the point where they have a pretty decent side. They just need to sign one or two really good players (not a heap of okay ones) each summer until that get back to having a top-notch side.

And I'd be looking to sign a CB, not a LB, as I prefer Chiellini at LB.

His inclination to stay narrow and move forward to attack the ball helped Juve cover their being light in midfield better than a natural fullback like De Ceglie or Balzaretti does/would.

A CB, a good backup CM (Meireles would certainly fit the bill), a proven goalscorer and bringing back Giovinco is what I would look for this summer.

And I agree that those players need to be ready to deliver immediately and not be signed because they might learn to be useful in a few years time. I'm not going to set an age limit on that, though.

Don't think there is any danger of Juve not signing Caceres.

I'd be leaving Vucinic and Giovinco to fight it out for the LW spot.

Pepe is vital to Juve just now because of how hard he works, which, again, is something that helps to mask Juve being light in midfield. Juve, of course, could do with having a RW with more quality than Pepe has, but I don't think they can sacrifice workrate too much in order to gain that quality, which really limits potential options. And I would definitely go for a winger rather than a striker for the RW role.

I'm really struggling to come up with players for the RW, so I'd be inclined to leave that spot alone and focus on other positions, rather than signing another waste of space like Elia.

Seedorf would be good.

I don't think I'd sign Nesta. I think he's right at the tipping point where he really having to strain himself to play at a high level. And then there is the issue of how often he's injured.

If Juve were looking for an experienced Serie A CB, I'd be going for Walter Samuel, as I believe he is also out of contract this summer.

Both Gasteldello and Diaz are alright players and ones I'd look at as third choice CBs. Wouldn't view either as being enough of a step up in quality to be a starter.

I'd try putting in a cheeky bid for Vidic to see if Man Utd fancy letting him go after an injury and a season in which they're going to win the league without him for the most part. Would have to put him through a pretty rigorous medical after his knee injury, though.

Pato is just too injury prone.

Barrios is a decent player and leads the line well, but I think I'd be looking for more of an out-and-out goalscorer than him. Can't imagine he'd be that expensive since Lewandowski has established himself as Dortmund's first choice.

Juve have been linked with Jovetic quite a bit, but I'm not sure he's enough of a goal scorer, as good a player as he is.

Must be a decent chance of Dzeko or Higuain being available, though wages may be a problem.

Van Persie only has one year left on his contract at Arsenal.

I'd be really tempted by Huntelaar, despite his indifferent spell at Milan. I think he's only got one year left on his contract at Schalke.

Juve were also linked with Torres on a loan with option to buy, but I don't have any faith that Torres will return to his former standard, so I'd probably skip him.

Tk, I don't think we disagree as much as either one of think we do, because we both agree with a lot of what Red says. I think the only major point we disagree on is Nocerino's talent, which is pretty useless argument because he's not a player that Juve are looking to get back, nor is he a player looking to come back. As for Balzaretti. I loved this guy when he was with us, he played with a lot of heart, and he was a workhorse down the left hand side. That being said we're strong title contenders with De Ceglie at LB, and if we move Chiellini to that Position, there's really no need for another LB, like Red mentioned. Another CB is definitely something we could use especially if Conte decides to use the 3-5-2 going forward. I know he's not a conventional target man, but G. Rossi has scored plenty of goals in that position for Villareal. Although, Dzeko, Higuain, or Benzema would be more conventional choices.
