Id love to know the appearances/game for Italians this year compared to the past 2-3.
I have a feeling that if you consider Johnny Depp an Italian it'd be higher and if not it would be pretty even. Borriello was a short term starter who's been replaced by a guy who may play there for 10 years. Brighi or casetti for Rosi. Menez, Mexes Vucinic and Jjulio Sergio weren't born on the boot last time I checked.
Of course Osvaldo is an Italian. He's been in the country most of his adult life, he long has nationality and played for Italia and has Italian family. We'd have one more regular Italian starter if LE showed a bit more faith in Rosi.
I've long been flying the flag for the anti-foreign brigade and how they all disregard the national players of the club and bring in foreigners, but I have to say our management has been mindful of that and put the right people in place to make the calls and be sensitive to the fans. So far. Plus we've showed a good focus on our youth and bringing them through.
Sissoko is a defensive-midfielder, isn't he? Where would he play with DDR there, though? Can he play mezz'ala?
It was supposed to be humor. I guess my dream of quitting the white collar work for a comedy career is over before it started.
Since we've dispensed with the niceties ill rephrase my comments/question. You're full of chit. This team is as "Italian" as it has been for years. It's just dummies who are content parroting other ignoranti rather than thinking for themselves. Roma and most any CL club qualifiers from the big leagues are made up of foriegners. Do you know why? CAUSE ITS CHEAPER!
You want 8 Italians with the skill of our guys? No prob call up TdB and hand him 50 mill. Fantacalcio is fun, I like it. Too bad its just a game on the internet.
But be like the boys on other boards. Never let facts get in the way of your opinions.
Guys, if I may point something out: the majority of us on here are not Italian.
And those who are, live abroad (I assume, as we're all speaking English!). But this isn't a bad thing! Being Italian or not being Italian is not the problem. Nowadays, people move around all the time. Being a Romanista is what matters. No one cared where Aldair was from. Or Batistuta, or Rudi Voller. Those guys understood what it meant to play for Roma, and while I'm not Italian (Dublin till I die!) I am a citizen of Rome, and a Romanista.
I hate what I call "irrelevant" players, who are just coming for the pay-check and the possibility of fame. If I'm honest, that's why I don't like Bojan. He'd be out of Rome on the Vucinic train the second he got a better offer. But there are foreigners, like Pjanic for example, who express a genuine interest in becoming a part of Roma and driving the team on. Would I like a player with that kind of commitment replaced with a player with no real commitment (Aquilani, for example) just because he's Italian? No.
Barcelona have a team of spaniards now (which ironically IS cheaper than their international exploits, though I agree in principle with you, DC), because they had to create players to fit into Cruyff's ideal. But it wasn't so long ago that they were a side of Dutch, Brazilian and Portuguese stars because back then, that's what they needed to play that kind of football. These kind of shifts take time.
I don't give a toss about how many Roma players pull on the Italy jersey. I don't go to the stadium to see "Italy's hope". I go to see Roma create some magic.
I'd love to see the Primavera lads do well and move up the ranks, but the players I dream of seeing don't have to be Roman, or even Italian. They just have to give a shit about the team, the history, the city and the fans. They should be players who don't fuck off somewhere else "to win trophies" (Aquilani, Mexes), or blame everyone else for their own shortcomings (Vucinic). A team is just that: a team. The sum of its parts. If the team is shit, you're shit. I just wish more footballers understood that.
DC, whatever the fuck your name is: you don't have balls big enough to even engage me in conversation. You don't get it, and you will never get it and to be perfectly honest, I don't have time to waste on marginal Roma fans who only identify with the here and now, without a sense of history or even respect for those who have gone before the present generation.
Collucci, you live in Roma, so you should get it by now. I understand you do not have a fluent command of the language but at this point, you should at least understand from where I am coming. Personally, I appreciate the fact that we have somebody on the ground, in Rome, who attends games and can feel the pulse of the fan base. Nevertheless, to me, it is important to have an Italian/Roman nucleus to the squad. Make no mistake about it, those of my generation who are the ones buying the tickets and paying for the merchandise for our kids all believe the same way. I can count on two hands the foreign players who became Romanista. In recent history, Aldair, Samuel, Mexes, Pizarro. I loved Batistuta, but he was here only a short time regardless of the scudetto. Falcao and Voeller are historical figures for Romanisti. Does anyone here know who Italo Foschi was in Roma history without researching him? What about Gaetano Anzalone. Has anyone ever heard of Franco Nicastro or Dante Chirichini. How about Paolo Zappavigna and Sora Luisa. If you don't give a toss about the historical figures of the club and influential fans then fine. Is it too much to ask those who are semi-new or non Italian fans to inform themselves of the recent history of the club.
It may not be important to you non Italians but it is important to me which is why it makes it impossible at this point in my life to take the time to participate here very much. I am not indicting you, Collie, but we are different. I am different, and I am afraid I simply do not fit in at these forums anymore. I am of a different generation; from a time where most of the boys around here were not even born or just babies when I was attending Roma matches. I was there when the CUCS were founded. Unfortunately, I am afraid that the 'principles' upon which those groups were founded do not register with some of the users here. To be perfectly honest, I am not sure the boys who sit on the Curva Sud today even appreciate the past where we simply wanted to make our presence felt in support of our squad without the attendant violence and politics which has plagued the game for several decades.

Poor italiamia ,you gone stupid and senile ,some of the shit you spill make all the forum to stink. When you are going tounderstand that we are all different and must respect each other view ,Who is to say that you are right and everone else is wrong ?To be a roma fan, one have to know the history as you do ?i can go on and bring all the shit you been bringing in the past ,so full of contraddiction ,but whats the point. You better have a good PORT and relax and enjoy life HAPPY EASTER PRICK
Look all I said is that we are as "Roman" and "Italian" as we have been and you got your panties in a wad. I wasn't even attacking you. I'm all for divergent opinions. It's why I come on here.
But until someone comes up with any sort of proof of this team losing anymore of its Italian identity over the last 10 months regarding players on the pitch then I'll continue to disregard it. There are after all plenty of sites where you can beat your chest and say those things and the mob will agree with you.
I rather like this board where people ask you to back your statements up. If that angers anyone....sorry. Feel free to ignore my posts.
I'll continue to operate on the premise that you are entitled to you own opinions but not your own facts.
As for the Roman, not Roman thing, I don't know what makes someone a Roman or not. Im not really worried about passing your test. I'm proud to be a Roman and a Romanista. I'm happy to have others call themselves a Romanista whatever their passport says.
La Roma no si discute, si ama. As the saying goes.
Gago earns 88,000 pounds a week on Football Manager 2011, so that must be right. I even reinstalled the game so I could check, so scrupulous a researcher I iz and with such reverence do I treat FM as football oracle.
gio's point of comparison wouldn't actually be the last 10 months, DCG - he sees the last 10 months as merely the continuation of the destruction done to the side's Romanitas under Rosella.
