Apparently all the talk about Gago already a permanently signing was just that. he came out today and said he would like to stay but it's up to real madrid and roma to workout. also said this is a very complex system that Roma play. He feels that is adding to the defensive woes.

There is no option to guy Gago in first place, it was reported by the media but not by our or real madrid official website.
Plus Gago's wages are too high, we are actually paying 1/8 of it, while real is paying 7/8.
If he takes pay cut, we might look for him.but if not, there are better options to explore.I for one would like to see Aquilani back to roma if possible, or maybe Montolivo.

I think Gago's better than the two of them, and I'd have no time for Aquilani jumping back on the bus now. Anyway, with our luck he'd shatter to pieces the second he put the pen down after signing.

And where did you see that about his salary? Everywhere I've seen has it listed at around €1m a year. We're still paying twice that for bloody Cicinho!

I've been singing Marquinho's praises. But we have no defence at present, and I think Gago's better in that respect.

Of course, with a solid back four my midfield would be DDR, Marquinho and Pjanic.

We have no defense with Gago, and we won't have much of a defense with Marquinho either. Better to try and score more rather than concede less.

There is a 6 mill option to buy Gago. Our option. Paid July 2012.

Rather have Gago at 6 mill if the wages are right. I also don't believe we are only paying 1/8 of his wages that doesn't even make any sense for real madrid to move him at that point. there were other people interested in him as well. why would we even have bothered with an option at that point?

All that has been reported everywhere including direct quotes from Bronzetti. when it comes to madrid there's only 1 man I trust more than Bronzetti and he doesn't post on the forum

Is that my cue, DCG? I do post sometimes. If we don't sign Gago I suspect that will be because DDR ended up signing a new contract - which might also give us a sense of just how close run a thing that was. Chewna, one thing you have to consider is that Gago's not a bad option as a vice-DDR who can also play as mezz'ala. That's quite an important mix for the balance of the squad - and I'm sure why Viviani has been tried as mezz'ala a couple of times. The squad needs a vice-DDR, but that guy, all going to plan, isn't going to be called on to play that role all that often, so he also needs to be able to contribute, and get match fitness, in another role. Gago isn't a bad compromise. I suspect a midfield three of Gago-DDR-Marquinho/anyotherincursore (as it seems Romanews have taken to calling the player who naturally arrives in the box, beyond the ball) would also complement Gago's regista instincts more than the trio with Pjanic (who's a lovely, attacking midfielder, but not someone who runs off the ball). Greco and Simplicio are the next best after Marquinho (who's the next best after Perrotta, but that's a different story).

Yeah, these days Totti's very much another 'midfielder' who doesn't do a lot of his running off the ball. Perrotta's not good enough technically for our keep-ball. You need Perrotta's movement with Gago's technique and you've got the kind of mezz'ala LE seems to be after. Did you see Eusebio Di Francesco's comments earlier in the week? I thought they were pretty much spot on:

Va detto anche che è un torneo molto equilibrato e chi avrà più continuità avrà la meglio. Capuano e Romagnoli sono molto intelligenti dal punto di vista tattico”. La chiusura è sulla sua situazione. “Il campo mi manca da morire ma fa parte del gioco, ho ancora un biennale con il Lecce. La partita persa rocambolescamente contro il Milan? Se dovessi fare un’analisi tecnica è difficile da spiegare, l’aspetto psicologico lì è stato determinante a loro favore. Non mi aspettavo una debacle così”. Conclude Di Francesco.

So, he's saying that the "profondita" problem with LE's Roma can be fixed? I don't think I understood what he meant about Bertolacci's attitude. My translation on that was not very good, particularly this last part "sotto tono e con poca continuità”.

I think Gago's a decent option if the price is right. No to Aquilani, not sure Montolivo would be the answer either, as I haven't really seen him play this year. I don't watch anywhere near as much calcio as I did in the past.
