Everything's corporate these days, but this is cool for any Romanisti in the US. I can think of a few bigger stages than Fenway Park, though. In footballing terms, it might as well be Richmond Park. I hate the way people have to make some silly statement full of superlatives just for the sake of a "lively" press release.

Our owners – that is, this consortium that owns Roma, 'NEEP Roma Holding S.p.A' or whatever, which is typified by James Pallotta – no nothing of our past. They no nothing of the rivalry with Liverfekkin'wankscum amongst a generation of Roman's. It not even a rivalry, its a pure hatred.

I mean, just look at this quote from Kenny Daglish on the announcement of this 'friendly':

"We've had some amazing matches against Roma in the past, particularly the 1984 European Cup final, so it should be fantastic."

Amazing matches?? That game was possibly the darkest day in the history of the club. A tragic loss in our own back yard which not only turned the entire city into a massive riot zone in which dozens of Liverfekkin'wankscum scumbags were beaten and stabbed, but ultimatley was the beginging of the tragic downfall for Ago.

Now everyone seems to forget all that and say "ah yeh sure marketing the team is great and high-profile US friendlies against Liverfekkin'wankscum is fantastic" (and again I'm not having a go at anyone for the marketing/promotion side of it), like everything that happened in the past didn't exist, and everything is just great. Well, fuck that. Fuck this 'friendly'. Fuck our corporate owners. Fuck marketing. Fuck Liverfekkin'wankscum. And fuck those who forget.

You need to fuck a lot of people then, Edzo! Because it's not unusual to see an LFC tracksuit in the stands at Olimpico these days. Or Chelsea, or Arsenal. The only one you don't see is Man U, thank fuck (never understood wearing other colours to a game, but that's another conversation).

I know what you're saying, but like it or not, things have changed. And though I'm a huge Ago fan, I can't see the loss of that game as tragic. The depression that intensified his emotions regarding that game was tragic, but in my opinion to call a football match a tragedy is to insult those affected by real tragedy.

As for the darkest day, if true (Riccardo Viola's word, if I remember correctly. Not sure anything else came out about it) I'd put that as the bribing of the ref in the Dundee game. Or something like that whole Anders Frisk bollox back in 2004.

It's right to remember all of that, but look on the bright side Ed: Roma will probably stuff them. And if it becomes a yearly thing, you can take solace in the fact that Roma hand Liverfekkin'wankscum a yearly spanking as a warm up for the season.

btw, on your point do you think BARCELONA would lose serie a title if put in Serie A?

I totally disagree. Our backline would be skewered againt La Liga. Look what Athletic Club did against ManU. Look what Spanish clubs have done in the EL.

We look "good" against teams that essentially allow us to control posession. How did we look against Milan? Juve? Lazio beat us twice. Udi beat us.

How many of our goals have come from slick movement? How many have come from individual brilliance?

you can't hold athletic as the gold standard for la liga. they are an incredibly unique team, similar to barcelona.

Hmmm, I like Bilbao, but they've only one nine games in the a league that I honestly don't rate at all. We'd be molested in Germany, I think, and in the EPL I reckon we'd be in about the same position.

There's not a defensive midfielder half as good as DDR in Spain, and I believe that we'd be more solid against them. For one, our team is taller and more physical than most Spanish sides, which are on average the smallest of all the major European leagues.

Also, this is a league in which a side like Levante might get a CL place, after being promoted from the 2nd division (they finished 3rd) and going from january to March without winning a game.

Also, I think LE would be more comfortable managing there, and the learning curve which has caused a lot of the bloopers would not have been so steep.
