What a really, really shit goal to concede right at the end. From a defensive point of view, it was amateurish. A long ball from a kick out, one centre back misses with the header, the other cant stop the shot, and ball trickles in the middle of the goal with the keeper diving the other way.

Useless cnuts. Fire Ranieri now, ship out the deadwood, and get your feckin house in order.

Inter to keep Ranieri if…

President Massimo Moratti has refused to blame Claudio Ranieri for Inter’s Champions League exit, but the tactician’s future remains in doubt.

The Nerazzurri crashed out of the competition on Tuesday after Marseille struck a late goal in a 2-1 loss to progress on the away goals rule.

“On an evening like this I don’t feel like taking any action,” the oil baron stated as he left the Stadio Meazza.

“I don't see how Ranieri is to blame – it’s more to do with the luck his French counterpart Didier Deschamps had.

“If we had lost 4-0, I might have seen things differently, but after conceding two goals in stoppage time [over the two legs] I don't feel I can give a negative assessment. Ranieri doesn't deserve it.”

However, the Gazzetta dello Sport is adamant that only one thing can save Ranieri from the summer axe – a top three finish.

The tactician is contracted until June 2013 after he replaced Gian Piero Gasperini in September, but his job is on the line.

Out of the Coppa Italia and Europe, the Nerazzurri will end the campaign without any silverware – and they could fail to qualify for the Champions League if third isn’t achieved.

Inter are currently seventh, eight points behind third-placed Lazio.

The Gazzetta adds that recently axed Chelsea boss Andre Villas Boas is in pole position to replace Ranieri at the end of the season.

France Coach and former Inter defender Laurent Blanc is another candidate.

Moratti’s thoughts on a new Inter

Massimo Moratti has admitted that Inter will consider seriously rejuvenating their ageing squad over the summer.

The Nerazzurri’s Champions League elimination last night, coupled with their domestic struggles, is being widely seen as the end of a winning era at the club.

It now leaves President Moratti and his fellow club officials with some decisions to make about the direction of the Beneamata.

“It would be a wise idea to start thinking about the long-term future of the side, to build a team that will be essentially young,” Moratti noted.

“But the problem is that if things don’t go well after three games then there will be regrets…

“As well as the ability of the new players with fresh legs, the team needs experience. Several players will remain, but we’ll bring in something new.

“It will all depend on the project which we’ll plan with the Coach.”

There is a possibility that Inter could follow the example set by Roma who transformed their squad and style over the summer.

“It all depends on the realistic ambitions and habits that you have,” Moratti continued.

“It would be a good idea to reconstruct from the base with the intention of immediately achieving important results and getting all of your transfers right.”

The oil baron was also asked whether a failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League – third is currently eight points away – may actually be an advantage in their rebuilding plans.

“It could be, but I don’t know what to hope for. It is almost impossible to qualify for next season’s Champions League, but we hope we can do it as it would be a demonstration of character.”

Stankovic wants Inter future

Veteran midfielder Dejan Stankovic says he’s not ready to be placed on the Inter scrapheap just yet.

The Beneamata are expected to rejuvenate their squad at the end of the season which could see some of the old guard sacrificed.

“I still have two years left on my contract and I can keep pedalling,” the Serbian midfielder told Inter Channel.

“I have even more desire to play, to not give up. The emotions I’m feeling, that we all felt the other night in our stadium against Marseille, were a real display of love and affection.

“It was amazing being there against Barcelona or Chelsea in the year of the treble. But it was also easier. I felt unbelievable shivers down my spine. This means that I need to play for another three of four years if I'm still feeling these emotions.

“Everyone knows what I'm like. When I think I can no longer do it, when I feel I can no longer give to Inter everything that Inter deserve, I'll hold my hands up, and thank the President and everyone at the club for everything I've learned and won at Inter.

“When that moment comes, I'll tell you, but for the moment I’m still really up for it.”

Stankovic, 33, has made 18 League appearances for the Nerazzurri so far this season, but he has yet to score.

Inter have had a campaign to forget. Out of the Champions League and the Coppa Italia, they are eight points away from third place in Serie A.

Did Forlan refuse Inter sub?

Claudio Ranieri denies Diego Forlan refused to come off the bench in Inter-Atalanta, but does admit he asked not to play in a certain role.

There were already rumours of problems within the locker room after Forlan stormed off when substituted in Tuesday’s Champions League tie with Olympique Marseille.

It was today claimed Ranieri intended to introduce Forlan wide left for Joel Obi, but instead picked Luc Castaignos.

“He did not refuse to come on,” assured Ranieri. “I simply asked if he was prepared to do this specific tactical work on the left?

“He replied with great honesty: ‘No, Coach, if I do have to come on then I prefer to do it playing in another way.’ So I opted not to introduce him, as I needed something else.”

Some would consider that explanation to constitute a refusal, but Ranieri is adamant there was nothing to create controversy about.

Forlan was asked about the situation, but refused to speak on camera.

“Ranieri explained it well,” he told journalists off the record. “I didn’t refuse to come on, it was just a tactical choice. I have nothing more to add.”

What I fear most in these last 10 games is a repetition of what happened yesterday. Players who are already thinking about their summer holidays. I think Moratti has to be clear in stating that whoever does not give his 100% during these last 10 games will have to search for a new club. Inter is a great club with a great tradition, hence, your place as a player has to be earned game after game.

After 7 great seasons, I do not think it is a tragedy not to qualify for the champions league. However, it is a MUST to finish off the season with some dignity.

Although the above article has a lot of truth, I think it is overly pessimistic. It will not be easy to rebuild, but never in my life have I seen the Serie A at such poor levels. What is my point? That it won't take such a long time to get back fighting for trophies domestically if this is what the Serie A is. At international level it will be a different story.

Something else which I hear a lot is "Moratti has to spend bug again". This is also only partly true. FFP rules aside, I believe you can make good, intelligent deals. To do this though, you have to have the right people - that is those with a good eye for talent and that can persuade newcomers of the club's project for the future.

Something else, when will Guarin and Alavarez be ready to play?
