Il Tempo had Lodont at a 6!?! Give the guy a break. For a player of his ability, I think he had a 10 game last night.

Player ratings bug me; they always have. Which is why I check them religiously ... I mean, I know they're just subjective bullshit to fill pages, but there should be SOME rhyme or reason to them. Can a goalie ever have a 10 game? Surely any game he makes a few crucial saves and doesn't concede is a "perfect" performance from his point of view. And if a 10 is only ever possible for someone like Buffon or Casillas, what's the point of the ranking in the first place? Lobont is not the best keeper in the world, and I cursed him for much of last season, but he came in last night and did a great job. Perhaps Buffon would have done better by commanding his area or influencing play with superior distribution, but Buffon isn't AS Roma's second keeper. Where's the sensible relativity?

Lobont looked dodgy under the high ball and didn't look confident dealing with crosses, so I guess they've maybe took away a few marks for that. Palermo didn't really try to exploit that weakness, though. He had a solid game aside from that and made some decent saves. I do wonder about Curci, though, I mean he's obviously not doing enough in training to impress LE to be our number two, which is a pity.

Il Tempo's rating of 5.5 for Greco surprises me more. 5.5 is quite poor, clearly, but i though he had a fine game and certainly not any worse than those around him.

He ALWAYS looks dodgy under high balls. That's my point: Lobont didn't have a "5" game, because I can't see him ever playing much better. I just think that's it's too subjective and reductive to be worthwhile.

It's interesting that Greco got 5.5 – more than Lobont. And I thought Greco was very "Meh". it probably would be an ok rating for his performance.But that's another problem with this ratings – the unwritten rule that everything should be based around the 5 mark. Why not give someone a 3? if you're going to give a 5 for a poor performance, why not just rank them between 1 and 5? Greco did nothing to affect the game either way, in my view. I've seen him play better. Lobont had a fine game and he got less. And Kjaer got a 7! he wasn't bad, but he was no better than Greco.

I'll stop now. I'm just being a grumpy old bollox about the rankings. I never liked them and I never will. I'll continue to look at them though.

Baldini, mercato e sponsor. Vicino l'accordo con la Disney

(Il Messaggero) - Una missione per il futuro della Roma. Oggi Franco Baldini vola negli States per cominciare a pensare alla prossima stagione. Appuntamento nel Texas, ad Austin, invitato dalla Raptor Accelerator di James Pallotta a rappresentare la Roma a un festival (musica, cinema e arti).

Il dg affronterà con Pallotta (lì c’è una delle sedi della Raptor) la questione del rafforzamento della squadra. Baldini è intenzionato a chiedere un extra budget per il mercato. In più cercherà di capire come il socio forte del consorzio Usa vuole ridisegnare l’assetto societario della Roma: usciti a dicembre dal cda Ruane e D’Amore, privato delle deleghe il presidente DiBenedetto, si sa da tempo che la Roma sta cercando nuovi soci in America (e nel mondo). Il dg si dedicherà anche al marketing. Il viaggio sarà utile per definire contratti pubblicitari di primo piano. C’è già una bozza di accordo con la Disney. Negli Usa dovrebbero nascere pure le Accademy, scuole di formazione per i futuri sportivi. In Sudamerica sono da qualche giorno gli osservatori di Sabatini: il ds, tra qualche settimana, dovrebbe raggiungerli. Per cedere Cicinho e ingaggiare altri giovani.

Ha, yeh exactly what I was thinkin. Morketing is all very well and good, but i don't wanna see us branded as the Big Bad Wolves or shit like that. I'm not sure what its about, to be fair, piece talks about it in more detail – something about promoting the Roma brand in the States? But why Disney, don't quite get the connection there. Does Disney own ESPN? Chelsea also seem to have some arrangement with Disney in the US, with branding, merchandising, youth tournaments and so on, so it may be something like that.

Not good news from training today, lets hope its nothing too serious:

After the important win on Saturday night at the Stadio Renzo Barbera in Palermo, Luis Enrique’s lads returned to work at the Centro Sportivo Fulvio Bernardini in Trigoria for a session that began in the early afternoon.

At 13:00 they met up at the training ground before taking to the pitch at 14:00. The Giallorossi began their work with the usual physical warm-up and then moved on to ball possession work before tackling some finishing drills. They concluded with a training match played on a reduced pitch.

De Rossi, Rosi and Totti stopped their training early: the first for a discomfort to his right heel, the second for a slight contusion to his right knee, and the third for a strain to his left flexor.

Burdisso and Pjanic underwent separate training, while Juan continued with physiotherapy designed for his recovery from injury. Tomorrow the team will meet on the pitch again at 14:00.

Bizarre rumour from SkySports talking about a potential exchange deal between Kjaer and Silvestre of Palermo. Not sure how it came about, but perhaps with Kjaer's past at Palermo they'd welcome him back. Silvestre is a player we really should have bought from Catania last summer, he would have solved a lot of our defensive issues this season, but of course our management were only seeking out midfielders and forwards.

Monday games -- gotta love them!!! Well, at least you do when you need to go from Rome to Sanremo to cover a bike race and you don't wanna see a penny of your season ticket wasted. Seriously, every time I get stuck somewhere (a la Roma v inter) or have to leave town for a day or two, they seem to re-arrange the games. Good on them.

Totti is likely to miss Genoa, his right thigh strain is causing problems. He may return to light training tomorrow or Saturday, but its likely he won't be risked. DDR has a pain in his heel, I believe, but is likely to play through the pain barrier.

Some news on the new stadio. Latest areas its saying are Tor di Valle and Massimina. It also appears that Roma have entrusted an American planning and consulting company Cushman & Wakefield Sonnenblick or something with the job of identifying a site.

Did I say Tor di Valle when we had this discussion ages ago? It seems like an ok spot. Still close enough to the centre and well connected. That Massimina/Aurelio talk is madness – that's countryside. There's no rail link, as far as I know (Aurelia station is still effing miles fro Massimina), so they'd need one of those, supporters buses, and you'd be creating a load of unnecessary traffic in a city already chocking to death on it.

I'm not the protest at Trigoria sort, but I'd consider it if they were going ahead with Massimina. That would be awful. Awful.

Does anyone know why no one has mentioned buying and re-developing Stadio Flaminio from the municipality? That place is screwed now since the national rugby team moved to Olimpico, which they did because the stadium's in dire need of modernisation. I've been to games there and you might as well be in a park, no toilets, stalls, nothing. The FIR was supposed to redevelop, but now it won't apparently. Atletico Roma would need to find a new home ...

Giuseppe Rossi confessa di apprezzare molto il gioco della Roma di Luis Enrique. La vera definizione di calcio, un gioco che si adatta alle caratteristiche dell'attaccante del Villarreal, come a quelle di Fabio Borini, diventato un concorrente in più per la maglia azzurra agli Europei del 2012. «Borini sta facendo una stagione molto buona, una sorpresa, è alla prima stagione con la Roma, che è una grande squadra, una piazza non tanto facile, e sta facendo cose molto buone. È un giocatore che mette tanto impegno in ogni partita, bello da vedere, giovane che sta crescendo e sta facendo e farà cose buone anche con la Nazionale». Prandelli ha cambiato molto gli azzurri. «Prandelli ha dato tanto, ha cambiato modo di giocare, ha dato una mentalità diversa, abbiamo più gioco, un sistema diverso, con giocatori diversi, siamo una squadra più tecnica che gioca con la palla, ed ha più pazienza con la palla», spiega Rossi, a Francoforte per un evento promozionale della Hyundai di cui è uno dei testimonial per Euro 2012. «La scelta della nazionale italiana rispetto a quella degli Stati Uniti l'ho fatta quando ero piccolo, guardavo sempre la serie A e la nazionale.
