The AC Milan player was a teenager when he met up with Wenger in 2000 to discuss a possible move to north London.

Ibrahimovic, 30, said: "Arsene gave me the famous red and white jersey - the No 9 shirt with Ibrahimovic on it and I was so pleased I even posed for a picture wearing it.

"It was a fantastic moment for me. Arsenal had a great team then and here was an Arsenal shirt made just for me. "So then I waited for him to convince me that I should join Arsenal. But he didn't even try.

"He never actually made me a serious offer, it was more, 'I want to see how good you are, what kind of player you are. Have a trial'.

"I couldn't believe it. I was like, 'No way, Zlatan doesn't do auditions'.

"I thought 'You either know me or you don't and if you don't know me you can't really want me'."

Ibrahimovic instead chose to join Ajax, where he began a run of eight consecutive league crowns, a streak that took in spells at Juventus - where two titles were later revoked because of the Calciopoli scandal - Inter, Barcelona and now Milan.

He also starred as Milan took a 4-0 lead in their Champions League tie against the Gunners last month, and scored a hat-trick last night against Palermo.

"I definitely made the right choice," he added. Arsenal host Milan for the second leg of their last-16 tie on Tuesday.

I was thinking today before the game that if I was the president/CEO of Milan, that I would have pulled Allegri aside and said I will not tolerate a repeat of the Deportivo or Liverfekkin'wankscum match. You will be fired if we don't get to the next round, no excuses.

AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri believes his team will build on the success of reaching the last eight in the Champions League by getting even stronger in future seasons.

Milan suffered a 3-0 defeat in the second leg of their last 16 tie against Arsenal at Emirates Stadium last night but went through 4-3 on aggregate after dominating the first leg.

And Allegri believes that, despite losing to first-half goals from Laurent Koscielny, Tomas Rosicky and Robin van Persie, they deserve their place amongst the elite of Europe.

Allegri told the club website, http://www.acmilan.com: "After four years of going out at the last 16 of the competition, I think making it to the quarter-finals was important for the club.

"We're back among the best eight in Europe and next season we'll have a better seeding as well."

Allegri did not expect last night's game to be easy despite the manner of the first leg win which was secured with goals by Robinho (two), Kevin-Prince Boateng and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

"Perhaps after the 4-0 in the first leg some thought it would be easy but that's not what happened," he said.

"The important thing was to get through to the next round."

Allegri praised Arsenal for their approach to the second leg and also admitted his own players were cautious.

"They played a good first half, we were a little, not really nervous it was more our control of the play rather than trying to score.

"In the second half we found more courage and their play fell a bit. (Last night) was the game of the season.

"Real Madrid and Barcelona at the moment are the best teams in Europe but this team when we're at full strength we can have our say as well."

comfortable win today, but we made it unnecessarily difficult for ourselves. we really played like shit after the goal, there was hardly any drive from any of the players.

and muntari sucks dick. he's a good 5th choice midfielder, but i pray, hope and wish that he never becomes a starter.

good to have aquilani back, hopefully he can bring some quality ball movement that the team is desperately lacking.

Ouch, tough draw. Would love to see you beat them, however unlikely it may be. Not just because its an Italian team involved, but it would be good to see Barcelona knocked off their perch. The diving and playacting and histrionics which they've developed has made me like them a lot less, which is of course a pity in itself because of all the beautiful stuff they do produce (and Messi, naturally). Tough for Milan to do it, though. Mourinho's Inter showed how, but Milan just haven't got the defence for that.

Draw also looks fixed to me (I always think these draws are). Chelski and Madrid given easy games to ensure they progress.

i'm just going to be incredibly disappointed after both legs, because we will end up losing to a team full of fucking divers and cheats. they play good football and all, but when you play a team of cheats it's hard to accept defeat in any way.
