Ugh another loss. Shouldn't come as a surprise to us now, especially vsing Napoli at home!
What also is annoying me is all this talk about replacing Ranieri. Who is out there that can salvage our season? Shouldn't we just keep him until the end of season? Discuss...

Ranieri: 'Why should I resign?'

Claudio Ranieri insists Inter will emerge from their growing crisis. “Why are you all waiting for me to resign? It’s not going to happen.” The Nerazzurri have not scored in their last five official games and lost seven of the last eight matches, including tonight’s 1-0 away to Napoli.

“We lost games, but we have the hunger and determination to return to winning ways. It was a particular game and we knew Napoli would attack us, as they are flying on the wings of enthusiasm from their Chelsea win,” said the Coach.

“We tried to attack them too and didn’t manage it, although we did close down many of the spaces for them.
“Everything must be one step at a time. We need to score a goal and that is the way to find a win. There was that golden opportunity for Giampaolo Pazzini and he didn’t manage it, so it’s a great shame.

“We lost the ball in midfield and Napoli were really fired up for seven minutes after their goal, then we got back into the match.”

Ranieri became irritated when asked what he would do in the position of President Massimo Moratti.

“If I were the President? I don’t know, you’d best ask him. If I were the President then I’d say I confirm Ranieri 100 per cent as it’s not his fault.

“I realise there are many sponsoring me to be replaced, but why should I take a step back? Why are you all waiting for me to resign? It’s not going to happen.

“I won’t resign because I believe in this team, they fought hard again tonight and that is all.”

TinkerMan made two half-time substitutions and switched to a 3-5-2 system at the San Paolo.

“We have some difficulties that we’ve talked about many times. I try to bring the best out of my lads and used the side that did well in Marseille, but in the first half we never really had the ball in the opposition half.

“How long can you go on with that situation? I made some changes and tried to safeguard the flanks, but when conceding a goal like that it all went wrong.

“Tonight we struggled against Napoli, whereas we had better chances against Marseille. There are positive and negative spells, while this was a Black February for us.

“The lads have worked so hard in training and we hope to emerge from this situation one game at a time.”

Villas-Boas in pole position for Inter

Andre Villas-Boas is in pole position to be named as the new Inter boss during the summer, claims the Gazzetta dello Sport.

Although Nerazzurri chief Massimo Moratti last night confirmed his faith in current tactician Claudio Ranieri, the latter is set to be shown the door in the summer.

The San Siro giants are enduring a problematic campaign and are currently in a slump which has seen them pick up just one point from the last 18 available in Serie A.

They’ve also lost their last five games in all competitions, including the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie against Marseille.

Villas-Boas was targeted by the club last summer, but Porto’s €15m release fee was considered as excessive and the 34-year-old moved to Chelsea instead.

The Portuguese tactician, however, is having his own issues at Stamford Bridge and his Premiershit future is in doubt.

Moratti is also a fan of Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola, but a possible bid for the Spaniard depends on whether he renews his contract at the Nou Camp or not.

There are also three other alternatives in the frame for the Nerazzurri hotseat – France boss and former Inter player Laurent Blanc, Walter Mazzarri of Napoli and Udinese’s Francesco Guidolin.

Inter face unwanted history

The Gazzetta dello Sport is today highlighting that Inter could reach three negative club records in their game against Catania this weekend.

The Nerazzurri are in a real slump and the statistics don’t make great reading for the Italian giants or their fans.

Having lost five games on the trot, Inter will equal their unwanted record from 1956-57 and 1993-94 should they lose their sixth consecutive fixture on Sunday.

To make matters worse, Claudio Ranieri’s side haven’t scored a goal in their last five games and they’ve never gone six straight ties without piercing the net.

Even if they do score, and the goal arrives after the 50th minute, then they will set a new first given that the club’s current longest goalless streak stands at 520 minutes.

Not for a lack of hoping for it, but I haven't seen Inter play this bad in a long time. I think you guys would have been better off losing today. The point doesn't do much for you in the standings. With Marsielle a week a away, if a Cappello or (someone else?) would replace Ranieri, maybe they could get this team ready for that game and a push for third place. The gap atm is 11 points...

Considering AVB has just been sacked, and with our poor performances, this would be the perfect time to bring him in. If we wait, he might just get snapped up by another team. Moratti, get yo finger out!!!
