On Friday 24 February at the Centro Sportivo Fulvio Bernardini there will be ceremony to name the new pitch A after Agostino DiBartolomei, the never to be forgotten champion and captain of Roma who died prematurely on 30 May 1994. The pitch was created with a synthetic grass surface by Mondo, a leading Italian company in playing surfaces for sports.

Enrique seeks tactical key

Luis Enrique admits Roma struggle to find a solution when opponents change their tactics, as they prepare to face Parma on Sunday. The Giallorossi have had a mixed last few weeks, capable of crushing Inter 4-0, yet losing away games to both Cagliari and Siena.

“There is no tactical, physical or mental reading of why we have these highs and lows,” said the Coach during his press conference. It depends on the talents of our opponents and on the level we play at. Sometimes we struggle to counter our opponents when they change their tactics to make life difficult for us. Parma play with a 3-5-2, so Sergio Floccari and Sebastian Giovinco could cause us problems, but we have studied how to battle Parma.

“When there is a defeat, I work to get back up, that is my mentality. I won’t even let the players relax during training, as it is the only way to always go home with your heads held high.”

When Enrique was asked if he already had an idea of who to confirm for next season, the Spaniard left the door wide open.

“I don’t know what will happen in three or four months. Nobody has a guaranteed place at Roma, as it all depends on results. We need to work every day to earn our place in this marvellous side.

“At this moment I do not confirm anyone, not even myself. The test is always tomorrow, that is the real message I want to send out. I don’t care about planning for next season when all we need to focus on is tomorrow and the fans are our examiners.”

Pablo Daniel Osvaldo “could start” against Parma, but new arrival Marquinho “is not 100 per cent fit. He only joined us two weeks ago and still needs to understand the movements of the team.”

Play some forward passes early in a move before the opposition is back an organised?

Let the opposition have the ball so that there may be counter-attacking chances?

Apply for a rule change so that ten minutes of possession on the halfway line is worth a goal?

The headline of this article reminded me that this will be Daniele's first game since he renewed his contract. I hope he gets a warm welcome. Given how much better we've played with him recently, maybe someone will have a 'No De Rossi,No Party' sign. Or some other slogan with the same sentiment, but made for him.

ROMA S.P.A. e il calciatore SIMONE PERROTTA rendono noto di aver raggiunto l’accordo per l’integrazione ed il prolungamento, per un’ulteriore stagione sportiva, del contratto economico per le prestazioni sportive ad oggi in vigore, la cui naturale scadenza era prevista per il 30 giugno 2012. L’accordo prevede il riconoscimento di un’integrazione dell’emolumento fisso lordo della stagione sportiva in corso, che risulterà così pari a 2,6 milioni di euro, e di un emolumento fisso lordo pari a 2,6 milioni di euro, per la stagione sportiva 2012/2013, oltre a premi individuali correlati sia al raggiungimento di prefissati obiettivi sportivi della squadra, sia alle presenze del calciatore nelle diverse competizioni.

VIAREGGIO CUP: JUVE WIN FINAL, ROMA OUT WITH HEADS HELD HIGH

The final of the Viareggio Tournament turned out to be a game of two halves as Roma ran out unlucky 2-1 losers to Juventus. The first period saw the Bianconeri on top but De Rossi's boys came out after the break much the stronger side, reduced the deficit and then had several good chances to equalise, without managing to make the breakthrough.

Juve made an aggressive start and took an early lead through Beltrame, then made it 2-0 inside the first half an hour thanks to Padovan. The Giallorossi didn't seem in the contest at this stage but they would emerge after the interval with renewed grit and courage – as well as the other qualities that have been on display throughout the tournament.

A fine 58th-minute strike by Piscitella (a right-footed curler inside the far post) opened the game up again and De Rossi's lads went all out looking for an equaliser. Around the midway point of the half Politano twice went close to getting Roma on level terms: an angled right-footed drive from a distance was followed by a low finish with the outside of his left boot that beat the keeper... only to skim the wrong side of the far post. Roma kept believing and lay siege to Juventus' goal: Piscitella with a cross-shot that was just kept out, Viviani with a free kick and then a header from Tallo in the dying minutes.

The Bianconeri celebrated at the final whistle but Roma will head back to the capital with their heads held high knowing they probably deserved better than to lose narrowly. Congratulations must go to De Rossi and the Primavera boys anyway for once again providing proof of the good work carried out in the club's youth academy over the years. Thanks all the same lads, Roma is proud of you.

Borini set to net Italy call-up

The Gazzetta dello Sport is today claiming that Fabio Borini of Roma will be included in the next Italy squad.

The Azzurri face America in a friendly on February 29 and the striker could be selected given the injuries to Antonio Cassano, Giuseppe Rossi and Antonio Di Natale.

Borini, still just 20 and an Italian Under-21 international, has never been called up to the full squad before.

In 16 games across all competitions so far this season, he has netted seven goals for Luis Enrique’s side.

The paper also suggests that Borini’s place in the Under-21 squad will be taken by Milan’s Stephan El Shaarawy for their friendly against France next week.

It is also being claimed that El Shaarawy will be selected by Prandelli for a two-day training retreat later in the season.

Palermo’s Argentine-born defender Matias Silvestre could also be looked at when the tactician holds a defenders retreat before Euro 2012.

Prandelli will name his squad for the Genoa game on Sunday afternoon.

Roma will take on Atalanta this weekend deprived of Francesco Totti – and the stats without him in the team are not good.

The talismanic captain is suspended for the Bergamo trip which, according to the numbers at least, will be a big handicap.

In the seven League games that Totti has not featured in this term, the Giallorossi have lost five and won only two.

The 35-year-old has scored four goals in 17 Serie A games for the club under the guidance of Spanish boss Luis Enrique.

Roma coach Luis Enrique has explained the reason he left Daniele De Rossi out of his plans for Sunday's 4-1 defeat at Atalanta.

The 28-year-old midfielder sat in the stands during the match despite not suffering any physical problems, with reports suggesting he had arrived late for the team's meeting on Sunday morning.

"I do not talk about what happens in our dressing room or in our team meeting," Luis Enrique told Sky Sport Italia.

"The squad always comes before individual players and I am sure that what I did was right if analysed in the medium-long term.

"De Rossi did not seem prepared to play and that is why I left him out. This defeat did not happen because one specific player did not play.

"If I could go back in time, I would make the same decision. I need everyone to feel responsible, specially the players who are important to this group and this club."

Luis Enrique then refused to blame the result on the rearguard, as Roma could not stop Atalanta's counter-attacking football.

"When we are talking about a defensive problem, we are talking about the entire squad," he noted.

"We want to have a high possession of the ball and for this we must play with two centre-backs in the opponents' own half.

"But today we did things wrong and we were left exposed to their counter attacks."

Questioned if De Rossi will make Roma's squad for the upcoming match against cross-town rivals Lazio, Luis Enrique was noncommittal.

"I will let you know," he said.

“I’m sorry for what happened,” the 28-year-old told Raisport 1 on Monday. “There is nothing to hide, I know that in Rome a little bit of chaos is being generated and I’m sorry.

“The Coach and the club explained what happened. There was no fight with Kjaer, I did not harm anyone. I have no problem with Luis Enrique, he showed yesterday that he does not overlook anyone and I like that.

“I’ve always felt comfortable with him and continue to trust him. I hope the fans also have confidence in him. We need only think of the game on Sunday.”
