Juve close on Lamps

Frank Lampard’s move to Juventus took a further step towards fruition yesterday as it is believed that Chelsea held advanced talks with the Serie A giants. The Blues midfield powerhouse was the subject of discussions between Juve sporting director Alessio Secco and Stamford Bridge officials for a couple of days last week. According to Italian reports, Secco returned to London at the weekend in an attempt to finalise terms for the transfer. Lampard is said to be keen on playing abroad and would welcome the chance to link up again with Juve Coach Claudio Ranieri, the man who first brought him to Chelsea from West Ham in 2001.

Ranieri Rejected Barzagli

Juventus Coach Claudio Ranieri rejected the chance to sign Palermo defender Andrea Barzagli, reports Tuttosport today.

Barzagli has long been linked with the Bianconeri and he was expected to move to Turin for the start of the 2006/07 season.

However the Calciopoli crisis last summer scuppered any chances of a deal and the ex-Chievo defender remained in Sicily. According to the Italian newspaper Tuttosport, Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini recently offered his star defender to Ranieri but he was turned down.

Juventus are in desperate need of reinforcements in the centre of defence after Jorge Andrade broke his kneecap and will be ruled out for most of the season.

They have been linked with a host of stoppers, including Branislav Ivanovic, Diego Lugano, Luisao, and even Luigi Di Biagio.

The decision of Ranieri to snub Barzagli is puzzling, seeing as he has developed into one of the peninsula’s best defenders over the past 18 months.

The World Cup winner is widely regarded as the long-term centre back of the Azzurri, once the ageing Fabio Cannavaro and Marco Materazzi hang up their boots.

The 26-year-old has filled in superbly for the injured Materazzi recently and put in polished performances in the Euro 2008 qualifiers against France, Ukraine and Georgia.

a january return for giovinco? Although he is probably talking about his return next season not in january. I understand some of the article but not all of it. Does it say we're trying to get ivanovic, zapata and gallas or are they saying that those are our shortlist of defenders we want. Meaning we'll only get 1 or 2.

Appiah for Turin return?

Ghana captain Stephen Appiah is being linked with a surprise return to Juventus in the winter transfer window.

The 26-year-old midfielder left Turin for Turkish giants Fenerbahce in 2005 for a fee of around £5m after two seasons in the Bianconeri jersey.

Juve are currently on the hunt for midfield options as Tiago Mendes and Sergio Almiron continue to struggle to settle at the Stadio Olimpico.

Appiah is under contract at the Sukuru Saracoglu Stadium until June 2009, but it has been suggested that he could use FIFA Article 17 to quit Istanbul.

This rule states that players can unilaterally cancel a contract after a “protracted periodâ€

Lampard Wants Juve Move - Report
Chelsea star Frank Lampard is desperate for a move to Juventus, according to the Corriere dello Sport.

The goalscoring midfielder is ready to quit Stamford Bridge after the recent departure of Jose Mourinho and would like a fresh challenge in a foreign country.

Juventus unsuccessfully tried to lure Lampard to Turin last summer but with his contract expiring in 2009, the Bianconeri would only need to fork out around £9m to get their man.

The key person in luring Lampard to Turin is Juve Coach Claudio Ranieri. It was the Tinkerman who was responsible for launching the East Londoner’s career when he signed him from West Ham in 2001.

The pair have an excellent relationship and Lampard was said to be devastated when Ranieri was axed by Roman Abramovich in 2004.

Juventus have made the signing of a top-class centre midfielder a priority as summer signings Tiago Mendes and Sergio Almiron have dreadfully failed to shine.

Lampard was in action last night during England’s 3-2 home defeat to Croatia. The 29-year-old scored a penalty but it was not enough as the Three Lions embarrassingly failed to qualify for Euro 2008.

yay or nay to lampard?

TBH, I'm tired of hearing us being linked with young midfielders. We already have nocerino, giovinco, and marchisio. Personally, I'd rather see them get their chance than for us to go out and buy more young CM's. We're looking good as far as young midfielders go, I'd rather get some experience in january. If he's willing to come, and I think he is, then let's splash 9 million on him.

It would be a ridiculous mid-field, one in which we'll have the power to be very offensive and massively defensive with those types of players. If the news is true then Ranieri wouldn't hesitate in getting Lamps. Question is if Tiago would even start. He could be gone as early as January with playing no more than 2 games in total minutes. Very sad by the way. He has barely come on as a sub but the unfortunate part is that Juve have been trailing in their past 2 games, not gone ahead or blown a lead.

Official: Juventus Negotiating With Ajax For Huntelaar

Juventus President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli has revealed that the club are negotiating a deal to bring Ajax striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar to the club.

The 24-year-old signed for Ajax from Heerenveen in 2005 and he has since hit 76 goals in just 94 games.

The prolific hitman has been in brilliant form this campaign scoring 13 goals in as many matches in the Eredivisie.

Huntelaar has already made it known that he will be leaving Amsterdam at the end of the current season in order to move abroad, and it now seems that his destination will be Turin.

Lampard Juventus Deal To Be Done By Christmas – Report

The deal to bring Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard to Juventus next season could be signed and sealed by Christmas, according to reports in Italy and England.

The Times newspaper says that Lampard will utilize a FIFA transfer clause to sign for the Bianconeri in the summer.

As the ex-West Ham man is over the age of 28, and has already seen out most of his current contract, Chelsea are powerless to let him leave for a cut-price sum.

Italian newspaper ‘Leggo’ has also reported on the matter, and there are more claims that Juventus sporting director Alessio Secco will fly to London before Christmas to complete the deal.

Secco has already held extensive talks with the Stamford Bridge hierarchy last month, and it is believed that there are only a few formalities to complete.

Lampard will agree to a cut in wages in order to hook up with Claudio Ranieri, the man who launched his career by signing him for Chelsea from West Ham in 2001.

The 29-year-old has since developed into of the most prolific goalscoring midfielders in Europe, and he has netted 20 plus goals for the past two seasons.
