It does, at least, prevent the situation of a teamed getting screwed by the weather when they were 3-0 up, though.

If a game's level at the point of abandonment, I'd rather see the game played again from the start.

Agreed; the rules are for the most part the best of a bad situation. I really think the point on available players should be clarified though. Imagine Atalanta being able to include a theoretically-back-from-injury Denis in the squad for a game that had been played while he was out? He's scored almost half their goals this season. If you must start a game exactly where they left off, surely only those on the pitch or on those still unused on the bench should be involved?

I'm not going to say that the ref made a wrong call to stop the Catania-Roma game when he did, but it would have been a hell of a lot simpler if he had stopped things at half time or had just soldiered on to the end of the game.

Don't like the idea of declaring a result without 90 minutes being played.

Neither do I, but imagine it was Juventus at the weekend, rather than Siena. A midweek trip to Catania is not a great solution. Anyway, the match is almost upon us, so in a few hours we'll likely have something else to complain about!

hmmm ... so perhaps we won't escape unscathed. Siena's not generally an easy match for Roma, and they have picked up some results against big teams this season.

Siena probably won't be in great shape come the weekend since they play Napoli in the Coppa Italia tonight.
