Boston Celtics star Kevin Garnett to become limited shareholder of Roma soccer club

Roma confirmed to The Associated Press that Garnett accepted an offer from James Pallotta, one of the four Boston executives who closed a deal in August to become the first foreign majority owners of a Serie A club.

Pallotta also is a minority owner of the Celtics.

Earlier this year, fellow NBA star LeBron James obtained a small stake in Liverfekkin'wankscum from the Fenway Sports Group. The Garnett and James deals are linked because new Roma President Thomas DiBenedetto also is a limited partner in the Fenway group, which owns the Boston Red Sox baseball team.

Nice thoughts there, Davey, grazie for sharing. So all of your family are Roma supporters? Your dad as well? How did they come to support Roma? Also, I have to say I'm not sure about the part when you say "many might have stopped supporting Roma then". In all honestly I'm not sure that could apply to me. To stop supporting a team (not just Roma, but say in other sports, like Dublin in GAA for me) just because of a defeat or a bad period in a season is not something I'd really contemplate; for me the results are not the most important factor, but the simple joy and passion you get from following a team regardless of what state they are in. Certainly there is frustration – and in Roma's case years of frustration – but to turn away from such a passion completely would be too harsh of a decision to make, I think.

The boys after 11 days off to fatten the bellies. Lots of pics of training from Getty . Next game is at home on Sunday afternoon against Chievo. Everyone was present at training except for Borini, Cassetti and Pizza (and obviously Burdisso). Nico Lopez also participated in his first training session with the senior team. Borriello was in Turin undergoing his medical for Rubentus (which took over four hours, apparently. Not official yet).

So, is that he will agree to a five-year deal at €6m-per-season (not including bonuses) with a fixed buy-out clause of €25m. The buy-out clause, as I understand it, is a way out if he doesn't like how the club is progressing under this new 'project', or if they "fail to meet his expectations" (that ). I have no problem with the buy-out clause, if he wants it there then fine, just as long as he signs on the dotted line.

Although a signature is not as close as we'd like. This below is from Claudio Fenucci in an interview with Il Romanista (via ) :

"The operation is complex. I don't think he has assessed any other proposals and is considering the option to renew his contract with Roma on top terms. Negotiations are ongoing, we are talking with his agent and will meet again soon. We are trying to fix all of the details and are looking for a solution. We are making every possible effort given the resources available. My perception is that we will reach an agreement. Because of the love that De Rossi has for Roma, I am sure he will not sign with anyone else until he has explored all options to extend his contract here."

Of course, sorry, very fair point about being only 13 at that time, sometimes its easy to forget your only just out of diapers a year or two. And yes I'm sure it would apply to a lot of people. I know Giovanni has been close to quitting it all a few times, and with cause, after a lifetime of hurt (and a sprinkle of good times). The other end of the spectrum, if you will.

What do we think of Pizarro's potential move to Rube? I don't mind Borriello leaving or that he's joining them all too much, but seeing Pizza move there would be just ugly. They may not be part of the project here or in LE's plans all that much, but i can't really see either getting much playing time at Juventus, either, and surely they'd only be back-up players to Matri and Pirlo, respectively. Pizza remains a quality ball player, quality at what he does and in a rare breed of footballer, and he's given us great years of service, losing him would be quite a shame.

no worries. and i don't think pizza will leave roma for any team but the chilean outfit he's talked about. i wouldn't really mind if he did, though. rube are good at taking or leftovers anyway.

So De Rossi was taking in a little basketball and art on his holidays? Nice. I would love to see a photo of him with the 'Big Ticket', Roma's newest shareholder. That wish is lower on my list than hearing that he's signed a new contract. Make it happen, Daniele.

It is quiet around here lately, but I guess with Roma-related news filtering out again, some people will come back out of the woodwork.

Sup Boyos. Happy New Year and Merry Christmas. Been pretty slow around here, but glad to see everyone getting back into it.

Ref Caprari: I hope he goes. I believe in the guy, especially in the Paella system. His runs in the games he's played are what we need. (although not his finishing)

Ref the JTW: I don't think we should buy anyone but some CB coverage unless it's a great deal. I can't see us winning the Scudetto or even making the CL. So rather see what we have in house and with the loaners and make decisions based on that in the summer.

Obviously I don't know KG personally, but what I do know that he is very intense -- as in a guy who would get in the face of anyone who wasn't playing hard so I can't see him investing in something he doesn't believe in. (from the little I know about him) I imagine he'd be that sort of owner too, so good for Vooch that he wandered off! No idea how many shares he owns, but I can't see him putting up with a bunch of guys who don't put in a lot of effort. When I saw that DDR saw a basketball game in Boston, I thought that was a good thing, because I could see him getting along with KG, assuming DDr has enough English to say 'win'. As for football, he is supposed to like the sport and plays it for his 'offseason' training, but this makes me laugh a bit because he's a power forward in basketball and a seven footer, so I find it hard to imagine him in any place other than keeper.

I would not want to put in a lazy-assed effort and see him at the end of a game. Did I say the word 'intense'?

LeBron bought into Pool so KG figured why not is my guess.

As for Kjaer well from your lips to gods ears but from what I've seen so far I'll take my 10 mill elsewhere. He often didn't get starts over has beens and never was's. When he did, twice he's been sent packing. If I cared enough I'd look up our record with him in the game. My guess is it's poor. Very poor.

And like I said, if we need to hit on any single position it would be central defender so it's not as if I am cheering against the guy.

Yeah, Shield, it's a bit weird to me too. Maybe I should go to a Raptors game vs Boston and sit courtside in Roma gear and see if that gets a reaction - it should from Bargnani, who would certainly know about that, being from Rome.

I was hoping for more from Kjaer, but I feel like we've not seen enough from him. I'd take De Rossi as a CD ahead of him.
