No Borriello called up at all for Bologna. Don't see why he would be left out, other than he will be leaving us in January (would be poxy if he left for the likes of Juventus). Gago is back for this one.

Romanews claims Borriello has a thigh injury. Footballitaliano.co.uk say that we have a set a price for him to go on loan to Rube for 1 million and purchase of 7.5 at the end of the season, while Marseille could make a purchase, which is what we'd prefer.
Ah didn't see Borriello picked up a thigh injury. Perhaps the mercato madness are using his absence as an excuse to fan the flames of his departure, but even so, it looks likely he will be leaving us for some first team football. It will be a pity to see him go, he is an effective striker with can do a job for you, its a shame LE doesn't see him as part of his plans. Wouldn't like to see him go to Juventus anyway, and I'm not sure why he'd want to join them as he'll likely be down the pecking order there as well, unlike, say, a move to Marseille, or even Spurs. I think he'd actually be quite good in the Premiershit (and we all a know all players aspire to play in that great league blah blah).
Nice article here praising Juan. How the tables have turned now, it wasn't so long ago there was all sorts of talk of him leaving...
Not a bad performance tonight (game is in the ). Indeed, LE called it our . I really liked our wing-backs tonight, I thought both Taddei and Rosi had excellent games, and I also don't think it a coincidence that we're playing with a lot more pace and aggression going forward and actually look threatening now that we've got in-form wing-backs. Juan impressed me at the back and offered a lot more security, Simplicio played well in the middle, Pjanic had his moments, and Totti was very good. Much better from Osvaldo too.
Match report and pics , and le pagelle .
Oh, and Totti doing the Totti dance ("Tutti al mare") :
I think Simplicio was huge tonight. He created a great pass that Totti bury's 5 out of 10 times and his run created the gap needed for the first goal.
Totti looked good again tonight. Ozzy is still perplexing to me. He scores and yet at times i almost feel as though we'd score more without him in there.
It was also cool seeing 5 Romans on the pitch at one time.
Baldini on Roma, Enrique and Capello / By Football Italia staff / Thursday December 22 2011
Franco Baldini has reflected this week on judging performance over results, comparisons between Fabio Capello and Luis Enrique and the future for Roma. After consecutive wins in the League, Enrique’s Roma find themselves on a positive ascent and end 2011 sitting in seventh place in the League.
Whilst positive in his assessment, Giallorosso general manager Baldini took the opportunity in speaking to Roma Channel to compare recent performances against Napoli and Bologna with others this season where the result has not been the same.
“The result has this magical ability to give the perception of the events that occurred in a different light, whether the team had had more or less of the game. Even at times when the result has not be achieved, as in Udine and Florence, the team has shown its own identity.”
In reflecting on the side's successive away wins and the preceding 1-1 draw at home to Juventus, Baldini was asked if Coach Enrique had adopted more of an ‘Italianised’ approach to tactics and coaching in recent weeks.
“We must also try to understand what is meant by ‘Italianise’ because we are playing in the same manner as before. The quality of the players’ interpretation has changed, therefore so has the way we play. Against Juventus and Napoli we have had less possession because they are two very strong teams.
“Enrique’s proposal has always remained the same, it is clear that he is making a personal journey of growth, even going beyond what might be our expectations.”
The general manager was then asked about his focus since returning to the Eternal City. This is Baldini’s second spell at the club after a six-year stint as sporting director at the club some six years ago.
“The first instinct [on arriving at the club] was for survival, and I felt a nostalgia for what had been in the past. Then, I focused on solving all the problems that we had to resolve. When winning it seemed that everything is fine when it was not always the case. It was tied too closely to results.
“I was nervous [for the first Press conference], I would have liked not to be. I’ve always thought it is best to start doing something rather than to talk about it.
“The obligations of representation, though, forces me to speak more than I’d like. There are many things to do and to promise things through an ad campaign is not something that I like.
“The aim is to create a more enjoyable football game. We would like it to be experienced differently.”
Baldini returned to Rome in October after the end of his contract with the English FA as assistant manager to Capello at England. Capello and Baldini have had an on-off nine-year spell working together, from a five-year period at Roma from 1999 to a season at Real Madrid as Coach and sporting director.
The 51-year-old was asked to consider the positives and negatives to have come from this working relationship and then to compare it with the one he is developing with Enrique.
“[A highlight] was when Capello went from risking being sacked to winning the Scudetto while with England there was great satisfaction in going through the European Championship qualifying unbeaten.
“The elimination to Germany [at South Africa 2010] still burns.
“Capello is a Coach of charisma and extraordinary experience, but he is used to working with teams that are already formed. Here [with Enrique] we are now building everything from the ground, bringing in new blood and trying to create an enjoyable game for the fans.
“We are building something attractive, maybe not with immediate results, but in the meantime it is a well-defined and offensive unit that is improving over time and winning more and more games.”
Baldini was then asked whether with the club’s plans for a new stadium when coupled with his words on entertaining fans allude to a ‘cultural revolution’. “No, no, it’s just the implementation of ideas that we hope will lead to passionate style of football, but less controversial and more serene.
“Maybe one day you will be able to go to a game as you do to a country fair. If we can make the stadium a place where there is no danger or controversy then everyone will fit in. You don’t need proclamations, just small steps. We are asking the fans what we should be improving.”
MITRAGLIA – Corsi e ricorsi storici.
UNICREDIT – Sta bene, grazie…
WALTER – Sabatini.
Who is he? Never heard of him. Why would he invest in Roma?
So, Borriello out, Casemiro in this mercato? Any thoughts on that?
Still also no real news on DDR's extension. The management still stressing it'll take time. I believe he's now legally allowed to talk to other clubs, which is a worry.
Totti: :
May this be our New Year gift. DDR was in Boston last night watching a basketball match and apparently had a meeting with Pallotta after in which he said yes to a new a deal.
happy new year, everyone. like ed said, may ddr's extension be our gift.
it's break time, no football going on, so i might as well... i was thinking about writing my common essay (the one you send to every single university) about roma, but it didn't come out well, and i scratched it.. just now, though, one of my universities gave me a prompt which asked me to write about a "special, non-academic passion/hobby", or thereabouts, in ~500 words and i thought about roma again, and why the hell not. this is a first draft i did yesterday, literally 2 hours before going out and celebrating, and it does need some help. the university isn't one of my top choices, so i won't kill myself over this essay, but i have plenty of time and if anybody has any comments, please feel free to be completely honest.
"During the Christmas Eve of the year 2000, I received a gift which has affected me for every day of my life. I woke up to find 6 boxes under the Christmas Tree. After the usual ritual of savagely ripping them apart, my 6-year old self found himself looking at a beautifully maroon soccer jersey. I wasn’t sure what it was, or what it meant, and all I knew is that I liked how it looked. The jersey was of AS Roma, with Francesco Totti’s last name on the back.
In May of that year, Roma won their third championship title in their 74-year history. From December to May, I had fallen in love with the team, or the color of it’s jersey, and for the final game against Parma, I was sitting in front of the TV, watching the game as intently as a 6-year old could, with my entire family also supporting the team. The game ended 3-1, and celebrations ensued, both in Rome and in our household.
In 2007, I found myself almost at the point of sobbing as Roma endured the most humiliating defeat in it’s recent history. A part of me was dying because it was just that, but another part of me was dying because the majority of my friends were Manchester United fans - the team that creamed us 7-1. Many might have stopped supporting Roma then, or before, during one of the 4-0 losses, or the constant frustrating 2nd place finishes, and this was the first time I was contemplating to do so. In the back of my head, I was thinking about all the ruined evenings Roma had given me; all the post-championship ruined weeks; all of the taunts from fans of superior clubs.
Then I remembered the joy it had given me throughout the past 7 years. Whenever I had faced disappointment in my academic or social lives, it was always Roma that had brought a smile on my face once again. No matter how sick I was feeling, slotting in the tape of that 3-1 from May 2001 would be more effective than any medicine available.
I went to school with my Roma shirt the very next day, with Totti’s last name once again proudly slapped on the back of it. I had quite a few friends mocking me, but I didn’t care in the slightest. In fact, after that game, I became an even more fierce supporter of Roma. I have not missed a single Roma league match since that loss, and I intend to continue like this. There have been more disappointments, 2nd place finishes, humiliating losses and thus ruined evenings, but there have been just as many brightened days, evenings and weeks from moments of glory. Everyday, I’m thankful for first the present that my father got me 10 years ago, and then the loss four years ago, which taught me how important loyalty is, and how almost everything has two sides to it."
