Do you really expect a modern day sports athlete – even one with the honesty and commitment of DDR – to not look out for his own interests over those of his club? I think thats a but naive, to be honest. Its not like Roma is a small, provincial club with a minimum budget anymore. DDR is in his prime and in the period of his life in which a footballer can secure his most lucrative contract of his short career, so yes he is looking out for his own interests, so you can't really blame him for that.

Stefano, how do you not see the difference between what veggie boy said and the point Edzo is trying to make? One position reflects a selfish motive designed to hold the club ransom, he is wrong of course, and the other, simply a player looking to obtain a new contract commensurate with his value in the prime of his career. Tommaso has completely misread the entire situation because he is speculating that De Rossi's motives are not honest and further, speculating that he is a problem within the squad because of his personal situation. Of course, Tom is arguably trying to be purposely contentious just to be a pain.

One thing I can say with near 100% certainty is that if De Rossi signs a new deal with Roma, it will be for less money than he could get anywhere else in Italy or abroad.

from Trigoria today. Gago and Pizarro are back and in good condition, but Kjaer is still out. Cassetti also returned to training but still isn't likely to be available for Sunday. Perrotta also missed training today. Juan is available, of course, so question marks remain if he'll be recalled in the defence or if DDR will continue there or return to midfield. With Gago also back to bolster the midfield its possible LE could stick with DDR in defence.
