Juve ponder Montolivo move

Juventus are hoping to hijack Milan’s move for Fiorentina playmaker Riccardo Montolivo, according to reports.

The Gazzetta dello Sport is today suggesting that the Old Lady are pondering a bid for the Italian international.

Montolivo will leave the Tuscan giants in January, for a nominal fee, or at the end of the season on a free transfer once his contract expires.

It was widely expected that the Atalanta youth product would be heading to the Rossoneri side of San Siro.

However, Juve director general Beppe Marotta will try to tempt the Stadio Artemio Franchi outfit into a sale by offering some players in return for the 26-year-old.

For the right price, he'd be okay.

Juve need to sign another high energy midfielder to step into the team if Marchisio or Vidal are missing - Nainggolan, perhaps.

I think he'd be a great pick up. He can play pretty much anywhere in the midfield, plus I think he could learn a lot from Pirlo.

What 'champion' do you feel Juve could/should sign to sit on the bench, then?

Juve's starting midfield is fine. It's depth they lack.

This season is a little different due to Juve not being in Europe.

In a normal season Juve will be playing twice a week and squad rotation will be part and parcel of that.

It's just this season Juve can go along basically just using a squad of about 16, barring major injury problems.


Anyway, I wouldn't be advocating big signings for midfield.

A top class CB should be the first priority, because I rather like Chiellini at LB. I wouldn't have any major issue with moving for a LB and moving Chiellini back to CB, though.

Juve 'not interested in Tevez'

Director Beppe Marotta insists Juventus “are not interested in Carlos Tevez and have not made contact.”

Today’s Italian newspapers were full of rumours the Bianconeri had offered more than Milan to tempt the Argentine away from Manchester City in the January transfer window.

“Tevez is an excellent player, I am hardly the first to say that, but we have had no contact with Manchester City or his agents,” director of sport Marotta told Sky Sport Italia.

“Juventus are not interested in Tevez. I can categorically rule out negotiations for a January move.

“I also totally deny reports of any other interest in the player.”

Tevez’s agents have confirmed talks are on-going with Milan for a mid-season switch.

We don't need another forward. the Waterboy and Quags have been sitting on the bench so far, and we still have Iaquinta, Toni, and Amauri ( :x ) all on the payroll. Like Red said, defense is our priority. Then, I think Montolivo (for cheap) would be a good pick up.

Hummels is the other really good player I've seen Juve linked with.

Hummels looks like he could be a really good defender alright. Could be hard to prise him away from Dortmund, though, lots of clubs interested in their players. Subotic has been linked with a big move away as well so if he does leave they may not want to sell their two centre-halfs.

Riccardo Montolivo and Radja Nainggolan are reportedly being monitored by Juventus ahead of the January transfer window.

The Old Lady are expected to make some changes to their squad after Christmas, with a new midfielder a possibility.

Now that boss Antonio Conte favours the simultaneous use of Andrea Pirlo, Arturo Vidal and Claudio Marchisio, he’s keen on boosting his midfield options.

According to Tuttosport, Montolivo is a man that the Old Lady are seriously looking at given his situation at Fiorentina.

The Italian international is only contracted to the Viola until June 2012, so he could leave for a nominal fee in January or on a Bosman free in the summer.

Meanwhile, the Gazzetta dello Sport is suggesting that Cagliari’s Nainggolan, 23, may be a possible target for the Bianconeri as well.

Milan are also understood to be interested in the two players.

I haven't seen much of Naingollan, but I know he's highly rated. Does anyone whose actually seen a fair bit of both players have an opinion? I like Montolivo. And I think this team plays in a way that requires our centermids to have good technical skills in addition to having defensive skills.

Nainggolan would be more or less along the lines of Vidal.

Doesn't have quite the same mobility as Vidal, but has better technique and is more composed. Would be another high energy guy for Juve's pressing game, though, rather than someone to offer much by way of intelligence or technique.

Montolivo would probably be better in that he could fill in for any of Juve midfielders, but also offer something different.

Nainggolan could only really fill in for Marchisio or Vidal, so Juve would still be left wondering what on earth to do without Pirlo.

First chance to find out the answer to that on Sunday.

Gazzetta is just expecting Pazienza to take Pirlo's spot in a 4-3-3.

Will be more of an onus on Marchisio to go deep to help play the ball out.

Juve just got Pirlo 4 months ago and they are already dependent on 1 player?? They didn't even depend on The Bald Algerian that much. This team should be able to play well without Pirlo. He's a great player but to be depending on a player who got here 4 months ago is ridiculous. This doom and gloom is hilarious. Juve will play just as good, if not better, with Pirlo out there. They've been grinding out tough wins since the first game, what would make this one any different. Besides, you're playing Cesena for fuck's sake. They could integrate this squad with the 5 of us as starters and Juve should still win. I'm wearing #10....snuff The Waterboy for his shirt in the locker room and call him a bitch.
