We've actually played a 4-5-1 formation which often shifted to a 4-3-3 formation when going forward. Indeed this formation is the best setup to cover our aging midfield. It's not a surprise that Cambiasso actually had a relatively good game, unlike Zanetti & Stankovic who look tremendously like being ex-players, especially the latter. Zanetti should be played as left fullback since he can still cover well and gets to dose his energies during the full 90 mins. It is excruciating to see Zanetti being the highest midfielder in the middle, considering his lack of vision & pace. Every time Alvarez tries a one-two with him, Zanetti quite simply tries to find a companion who is less than 5 yards away from him.
Indeed our forwards seem to have problems scoring, but most of that IMO comes from the lack of support coming from behind. Our forwards are always isolated upfront or if they are close, it means that the forwards have tracked back to the midfield line. It's no wonder that our goals come mostly from set-pieces or some good individual briliance. There is simply no plan whatsoever to be dangerous upfront. All is done by individual, spontaneous efforts.

Inter Milan have signed promising 15-year-old Guilherme Celestino from Sporting Lisbon - after he was rejected by Aston Villa.

The Brazilian was given a secret trial by Villa who decided he was not good enough to make it as a top flight professional.

However, the midfielder is highly rated in Portugal and has picked up awards previously won by Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo.
Agent Barry McIntosh told The Daily Mirror: "It's a shame Villa did not spot his potential. He's a talent. It was clear to me and Inter Milan recognised that quickly."

Lucio out for minimum three weeks

Inter have been dealt a blow in their bid to recover League form with the news that centre-back Lucio has been ruled out for three weeks with injury.

The Brazilian centre-back played the full 90 minutes of the Nerazzurri’s Champions League Group B clash with Trabzonspor in Turkey on Tuesday but complained after the game of tightness in his leg muscles.

Tests carried out this week have now revealed a second-degree strain of the 33-year-old’s left adductor muscle. Prognosis is a minimum three-week recovery period for the South American, but it is anticipated that if Claudio Ranieri has the option, that he is unlikely to risk the injury reoccurring and will not use the defender until after the winter break.

Lucio looks set to miss League fixtures against Siena, Udinese, Fiorentina and Genoa and the conclusion of the team’s Champions League group stages, a home game with CSKA Moscow.

Lazio-Juve. Tiro di Rocchi, Buffon tocca il pallone che finisce sul braccio di Barzagli. Braccio largo ma distanza ravvicinata. Era rigore?
Ho letto giudizi molto positivi sull'arbitraggio di Rocchi ma io vado controcorrente. E' vero che la distanza è minima ma è anche vero che se non lo prende Barzagli il pallone va dentro o comunque è destinato ad essere giocato da qualche giocatore della Lazio perché Bonucci, qualora Barzagli non lo avesse preso con il braccio, non ci sarebbe mai arrivato. Magari non l'avrei espulso ma avrei dato il il rigore e l'ammonizione.


Quindi la Lazio fa bene a recriminare?
La Lazio dovrebbe reclamare anche per un fallo di Chiellini su Diakitè in area, anche quello meritava il rigore. Al laziale è stato addirittura fischiato il fallo contro. Chiellini lo trattiene da dietro mentre Diakitè sta per andare. Il difensore bianconero interviene in maniera furba, si vede nettamente la maglia del laziale che viene strattonata.
Il completamento del giudizio negativo su Rocchi viene determinato anche da un'altra azione che ha coinvolto Barzagli: il fallo di mano volontario che gli ha consentito di controllare il pallone sulla linea laterale, tra l'altro condito da una parolaccia nei confronti dell'assistente. Rocchi fischia il fallo di mano ma non lo ammonisce. Alla fine Barzagli si è risparmiato due ammonizioni e quindi l'espulsione.


Siena-Inter. I toscani hanno reclamato il rigore per un fallo di Samuel su Larrondo.
No, direi di no. Il Siena è stato sfortunato perchè ha giocato una bella partita mentre l'Inter ne è uscita con un colpo di fortuna, ma non ci sono episodi dubbi.

Have you seen the Barzagli 'handball'?

I'm not going to say that it would have been a wrong decision to give a penalty, but it would have been pretty harsh given than Barzagli's hand arm was by his side and he had no time to react to the ball coming off Buffon.

Also, I'm not sure the ref could have given it, as Barzagli's body was probably obscuring his view. It was a call the linesman would have had to make, and we all know they don't have to balls to make big decisions.

The Diakite-Chiellini incident could have gone either way. Both were fouling each other (not sure who committed the first foul). Still, rightly or wrongly, 99% of the time that clash will result in a freekick for the defending team.

A suffered but much needed win ...

Was thinking and discussing with some friends ... since this year even a third place seems very difficult wouldn't it be wise to start fielding the youngsters more often? Coutinho, Obi, Castagnios and even others like Poli, Faraoni, Crisetig etc.

PS: Lomba ... in the goal yesterday Castagnios has shown glipses of a great centre forward controlling and shooting in a fraction of a second. Perhaps you were right about this kid after all
