Napoli Juventus cancelled due to flooding.


ROME, Nov 6 (Reuters) - Serie A’s big match of the weekend , between sixth-placed Napoli and leaders Juventus on Sunday, has been postponed due to flooding in the city of Naples.

“Tonight’s match at 2045 (1945 GMT) at the San Paolo between Napoli and Juventus has been postponed by order of Naples prefecture,” read a statement on the club’s website (www.sscnapoli.it)

The match was the second Serie A victim of the bad weather after Sunday’s early game between Genoa and Inter Milan was called off due to severe flooding on Friday in which seven people died.

The Waterboy, who turns 37 on Wednesday, is a legend at Juventus, having plied his trade at the club since joining from Padova in 1993, winning five Serie A titles and also the Champions League in 1996.

But Juve recently announced that he will not be offered a new contract when his terms expire next summer, sparking rumours that he could hang up his boots at the conclusion of the 2011-12 season.

However, The Waterboy, who won the World Cup with Italy in 2006, told Rai TV: "My future after 30th June 2012 is that of a football player. I will continue playing."

Swiss club FC Sion have already expressed their interest in securing The Waterboy's signature, with the list of suitors expected to grow as he nears the end of his Juventus contract.

Over eagerness to push forward, combined with the odd slack pass, meant that far too many counter-attacking opportunities were given to Palermo.

Still, Juve were pretty clinical and put the game to bed nice and early

The French World Cup-winner David Trezeguet has terminated his one-year contract with the United Arab Emirates club Baniyas due to a muscle injury that has kept him out of action for most of the season.

The newspaper Sport360 said on Sunday that the 34-year-old striker agreed to end his contract because he couldn't deliver on what had been expected from one of the league's biggest off-season signings.

The club's interim coach, Salem al-Orfi, praised Trezeguet's honesty, noting that he could have kept his mouth shut and continued to collect a paycheck. Trezeguet, who has played for Monaco, Juventus and Hércules in Spain, only featured in the club's opening league match and an Etisalat Cup match.

Trezeguet won the World Cup in 1998 and the European Championship two years later, and was a World Cup runner-up to Italy five years ago. He retired from international duty in 2008.

It was unclear whether Trezeguet will retire from all football or consider a move to another club if he recovers.

Light em up baby!! That's the Juve I want to see week in and week out. This is what they need to do when a team that is inferior to Juve shows up in Turin. They need to establish home dominance but need to romp teams like this regardless of where they play. I don't know why they let the lower clubs get the best of them. Its been a while since I've seen Juve finally destroy Palermo. Let's see how they play against Napoli. I'll be convinced and believe in the scudetto if they pull off a win. The key is for Conte to mentally prepare them for the second half of the season. Hopefully Juve stay in first before the winter break, it would be great for morale.

I was looking at the schedule earlier. If Juve can win 2/3 between Lazio, Roma and Napoli and run the table the rest of the way against inferior/beatable teams, they have a legitimate shot. I think this team is now mentally tough and no longer fragile. I only question the defense. Are they mentally prepared'? Are they up to the task to keep focus and not make any mistakes?? The biggest mistake Juve made this season is not getting adequate backup defenders. You need a veteran presence back there to step in when a starter goes out.

I thought it was all around a really good game today. Pepe should've really had at least one or two more goals. Marchisio and Matri could've each had one too. Pretty exciting first half and a more defensive second. Great counter and vision(and some poor defending from Lazio) by Matri to set up the goal. Lazio had their fair share of chances too, but Buffon was tremendous and our defense (along with Gigi) did a decent job cleaning up after their own mistakes.

Pepe is having a relatively great season. He's showing why Lippi picked him for the 2010 WC, and he's proving extremely useful in Conte's system.

Although, I'd like to see players like Krasic, the Waterboy, Quags, Elia, and even De Ceglie get some playing time, you really can't fault Conte for sticking with the guys he has. Weve only had one competition to worry about so far. So, like Red mentioned, there isn't much of a need for a rotation system. I'm looking forward to seeing these guys get some more playing when Coppa Italia starts.
