FT: Cologne 3-0 Augsburg

Cologne returned to winning ways with a convincing victory over Augsburg. Augsburg remain in the drop zone. 10 minutes in, Cologne should have been awarded a penalty when Gibril Sankoh handled but the referee waved play on. On the 20 minute mark, Lukas Podolski raced down the left and struck the ball across Simon Jentzsch to make it 1-0. On 25 minutes, Hojime Hosogai brought down Christian Clemens for a penalty which Podolski converted to make it 2-0. Slawomir Peszko made it 3-0 10 minutes into the 2nd half after a mistake by Lorenzo Davids. Augsburg went close to scoring 15 minutes from time but Akaki Gogia blasted his shot off the post. Augsburg finished the match with 10 mn when Torsten Oehrl was shown red for a tacke from behind on Sascha Riether.

FT: Hamburg 1-1 Kaiserslautern

10 men Hamburg got recorded their third straight draw at home to Kaiserslautern. Hamburg have moved to 16th with 9 points while Kaiserslautern are 13th with 12 points. Hamburg were reduced to 10 men after 20 minutes when Slobodan Rajkovic elbowed Christian Tiffert. Kaiserslautern took advantage and broke the deadlock 5 minutes before the break. An Olcay Sahan cross went to Konstantinos Fortounis and he laid the ball back for Pierre De Wit to fire the ball home from the edge of the box. Fortounis went close himself minutes later but his shot was deflected over the bar. Hamburg thought they had equalised just before the hour through Jose Paolo Guerrero but it was ruled out for a handball. However, Guerrero did equalise 5 minutes later after he headed home a Gokhan Tore cross.

FT: Atletico Madrid 3-1 Real Zaragoza

Atletico Madrid beat Real Zaragoza to end their 7 game winless streak. The result has moved Atleti upto 9th while Zaragoza slip to 15th. Atletico Madrid took the lad on 20 minutes after a quick counter saw Arda Turan lift the ball into the box picking out Adrian to head the ball past Roberto. It was 2-0 on the half hour mark. Gabi swung in a freekick which Diego Godin then headed across the six yard box for Alvaro Dominguez to nod the ball home. Adrian made it 3-0 with 15 to go after Filipe did well down the left and he cut the ball back for Adrian to sweep the ball home. Zaragoza did get on the scoresheet with 10 minutes to go when Helder Postiga headed home a Luis Garcia cross.

FT: Cagliari 0-3 Lazio

Cagliari lost their unbeaten home record at the hands of Lazio. Lazio have moved to within one point of Juventus while Cagliari slip to 8th. Lazio took the lead 5 minutes before the break. A 25 yard drive by Senad Lulic beating Michael Agazzi. On the stroke of half time, Miroslav Klose popped up to head home a Djibril Cisse cross to make it 2-0. With 10 minutes to go, Thiago Ribeiro missed a great opportunity to pull a goal back but sent his header into the stands. With 2 minutes to go, Tommaso Rocchi scored his 100th goal for Lazio after his initial header hit the bar but he turned home the rebound.

FT: Valenciennes 0-0 Lille

Lille moved upto 3rd in Ligue 1 with a draw away to Valenciennes. In the first 10 minutes, Eden Hazard did well to reide a couple of challenges but he could not get a shot away from a promising position. Just past the hour mark, Carlos Sanchez tested Mickael Landreau with a 30 yard drive and with 15 minutes to go, Eden Hazard went on one of his mazy runs but the end product was a poor shot straight at Nicolas Penneteau.

FT: Malaga 2-1 Espanyol

Malaga ended their run of three straight defeats with victory over Espanyol at La Rosaleda. Malaga took the lead 5 minutes in. Sergio Duda's long picked out Nacho Monreal who then duly played the ball across the box for Salomon Rondon to tap the ball home. With 10 minutes to go, Raul Rodriguez sliced his clearance following a Santi Cazorla cross which narrowly went over the bar. Espanyol did equalise on the stroke of half time. Vladimir Weiss whipped in a freekick which Alvaro Vazquez nodded past Willy Caballero. With 20 minutes to go, Joaquin was in a promising position but his shot was blocked by Cristian Alvarez. However, moments later, the ball was powerfully played back into the box which hit off Romaric and the referee awarded a penalty. Replays showed that the ball hit Romaric's face (and his eye was swollen following the incident) but the referee awarded the penalty and also booked Romaric. Apono then stepped up and sent Cristian Alvarez the wrong way.

Barcelona and La Liga dominate FIFA Ballon d'Or 23-man shortlist

FIFA have announced their 23-man player shortlist for the Ballon d’Or and their 10-man shortlist for the coaching equivalent award on Tuesday, with Spain and La Liga receiving notable recognition. Favourite to retain the coveted prize for a third consecutive year and match Michel Platini’s record is Lionel Messi and he is joined by seven Barcelona teammates including last year’s runner-up and third place men Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez.

With five Real Madrid players including Cristiano Ronaldo making the list alongside Sergio Aguero and Diego Forlan who were at Atletico Madrid last season, La Liga is strongly represented on the player nominee list.

Similarly, Vicente Del Bosque, Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho make the 10-man Coach shortlist. Both shortlists will be narrowed down to a final three on December 5 - announced in Paris - with the final winners announced on January 9 in a live televised ceremony at the Zurich Kongresshaus.




I always hate this lists, and we all know there's only one man in contention to win anyway, but only one Serie A based player (at the time) in Sneijder. No Cavani, despite scoring 30 goals or whatever it was, which is amazing. Were Benzema or Nani really that better? Milan have no players despite winning the league. Can't see how the likes of Abidal or Alves or Pique had any better a season than Thiago Silva. Just because they won the CL?

Also no Italian based coach, like Allegri or Guidolin. Does Serie A not deserve it, or is this a bias against Italian football?

It is a bias.
Of course, there would be no one truly in contention for the awards, but there are certainly Italians/Italian based players who are more worthy than those on the list.

It will be ridiculous in my mind if Guardiola wins the Coaching one....

I also don't see how Mourinho gets on that list. He's failed to do anything of note with Real Madrid, except act like a cock.

FT: Mainz 3-1 Stuttgart

Mainz recorded their first league win since August with victory over Stuttgart. The notable chance of the 1st half came from ANdreas Ivanschitz when he rounded Sven Ulreich but his shot was cleared off the line by Khalid Boulahrouz. Cacau put Stuttgart ahead 5 minutes into the 2nd half when he met Martin Harnik's cross to beat Christian Wetklo. Minutes later, Anthony Ujah headed home an Elkin Soto cross to equalise. On the hour mark, Maza was adjudged to have fouled Nicolai Muller conceding a penalty which Andreas Ivanschitz converted. Ujah made it 3-1 when he was through on goal and pushed the ball past Sven Ulreich and slotted the ball into the empty net. Both teams finished the game with 10 men. Eugen Polanski was shown a red with 5 minutes to go with a high foul on Christopher Heimlein and Maza was shown a red card after the final whistle for excessive protests.

FT: Dinamo Moscow 1-1 Spartak Moscow

The Russian Premiershit concluded before it splits. The main game was at Arena Khimki. Dinamo Moscow took the lead 5 minutes before the break through Kevinn Kuranyi. Aiden McGeady equalised on the hour mark. Spartak finished the game with 10 men when Rafael Carioca was shown red.

FT: Bayer Leverkusen 2-2 Hamburg

Hamburg came from 2 goals behind to draw and move out of the relegation zone. Bayer Leverkusen broke the deadlock after just 5 minutes. An ANdre Schurrle freekick took a wicked deflection off Dennis Diekmeier wrongfooting Jaroslav Drobny to give Bayer the lead. Andre Schurrle truned provider on 20 minutes when his cross was swept home by Lars Bender. Hamburg pulled a goal back 10 minutes before the break when Dennis Aogo whipped in a freekick which Heiko Westermann flicked into the goal. Marcell Jansen equalised just before the hour mark when Gokhan Tore chipped the ball over for Marcell Jansen to finish. Eren Derdiyok wasted a golden opprtunity to put Bayer back in the lead with 25 to go.

FT: Real Betis 0-0 Malaga

Real Betis put a halt to their six game losing streak with a draw at home to Malaga. The only notable chance came just before the hour mark when Casto had to be alert to keep out a Salomon Rondon headed effort.

FT: Levante 0-2 Valencia

The Valencia derby, also 3rd v 4th, finished in favour of Valencia. Valencia broke the deadlock just past the half hour mark. Tino Costa played the defence splitting pass for Jordi Alba but just as Alba was about to slot the ball into the net, Javi Venta slid in and scored an own goal for him. Costa himself made it 2-0 5 minutes into the 2nd half. His freekick wrongfooted Gustavo Munua and swerved into the net.

FT: Novara 0-2 Roma

Roma have moved into the top half of the table with victory at Novara. Novara remain in the bottom three after this defeat. Francesco Marianini headed the ball into the net on 20 minute mark but it was rightly ruled offside. Takayuki Morimoto also had a decent attempt which was blocked by Maarten Stekelenburg 10 minute before the break. WIth 20 to go, Riccardo Meggiorini was put through on goal but Stekelenburg denied him. Bojan broke the deadlock with 15 to go when he swept home a Miralem Pjanic cross. Pablo Osvaldo headed home the second of the night minutes later.

FT: Lille 1-1 Evian

Lille were surprisingly held at home by Evian. 4 minutes on the clock and Evian took the shock lead. Saber Khelifa latched onto the long ball by Olivier Sorlin and lashed a shot past Mickael Landreau. On 15 minutes, Joe Cole had the ball in the net bt it was ruled out wrongly for offside. Benoit Pedretti equalised just past the hour mark when his curlign freekick evaded everyone and bounced past the goalkeeper into the net. Tulio De Melo should have scored the winner with 15 to go but he fluffed his lines 1-on-1 with the keeper.

FT: Real Madrid 7-1 Osasuna

Real Madrid will remain top of La Liga heading into the international break after a thumping victory over Osasuna. Sami Khedira should have opened the scoring 10 minutes in but he miskicked from six yards out following an Angel Di Maria corner. Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring on 25 minutes when he headed home a Di Maria cross. Osasuna equalised on the half hour mark. Alvaro Arbeloa brought down Nino on the edge of the box and as Arbeloa and team mates were protesting, a quick freekick caught Real offguard and Ibrahima slotted the ball past Iker Casillas. Pepe then put Real back in front 5 minutes later when he nodded home another Di Maria cross. Gonzalo Higuain made it 3-1 when he latched onto a Di Maria ball, sidestepped Lolo and curled the ball into the top corner of the net. 10 minutes into the 2nd half, Mesut Ozil was brought down by Eneko Satrustegui who was duly sent off and Ronaldo converted the resulting penalty. Ronaldo completed his hat trick just before the hour when he headed home an Alvaro Arbeloa cross. Karim Benzema made it 6-1 just past the hour mark after good work from Fabio Coentrao. Benzema made it 7-1 with 10 to go when Arbeloa palyed him through to finish first time.
