Calcio Debate: Will Inter Struggle Without Figo?
Inter were dealt a big blow yesterday with the news that Luis Figo had fractured his fibula during the game with Juventus on Sunday night. With Figo now facing an extended spell on the sidelines, Carlo Garganese asks how Inter will cope without their Portuguese inspiration…
Make no mistake about – Inter are without doubt the strongest team domestically in Serie A at the moment and the clear favourites to retain the Scudetto they won so convincingly last season.
This campaign they have, at times, looked unbeatable in the league and they currently sit top of the standings with seven wins and four draws from their 11 games.
However on Sunday, arguably their joint-best player this season, Luis Figo, received a nasty 35th birthday present from Juventus midfielder Pavel Nedved, whose foul caused him to break the fibula bone in his right leg.
Figo will undergo surgery today on the injury and although it has not been revealed how long he will be out of action for, he is unlikely to return for at least a couple of months.
Most Calcio supporters may not regard Figo’s absence as much of a blow to Inter – after all they have a first-team squad of nearly 30 players, virtually all of whom are experienced international stars.
However Figo, despite his advancing years, brings something extra to the Nerazzurri that these other players do not. He brings creativity, flair and an ability to produce a piece of magic at any given moment.
Inter at this current moment are more renowned for their substance than for their style. They base their game on power, strength and efficiency, rather than skill and beauty. They are, as Juventus Coach Claudio Ranieri said before Sunday’s match, “like a machineâ€

Figo è campionissimo dentro: proveràa rientrare prima di Natale!
Il nerazzurro è stato operato ieri, non si escludono tempi record per il recupero.
Smaltito il dolore della prima fase post infortunio, superato brillantemente l'intervento chirurgico a cui si è sottoposto ieri, Luis Figo continua a stupire, almeno per la volontàdimostrata di continuare a dare magia al gioco del calcio correndo sul prato verde.
Il portoghese, infatti, ha giàiniziato il programma di decorso post operatorio e ha intenzione di provare il recupero record per il derby milanese del 23 dicembre, situazione che potrebbe consentirgli di fare un gran bel regalo di Natale sia ai tifosi dell'Inter che a tutti quelli che amano il calcio, i suoi passaggi vellutati, i suoi stop mai convenzionali e sempre perfetti.
Al centrocampista che è nato nello Sporting Lisbona, operato ieri a Pavia dal professor Benazzo con la supervisione del responsabile medico nerazzurro Combi, è stata applicata una placca che ha consentito la riduzione della frattura parzialmente scomposta della gamba destra, il tutto senza intaccare affatto il suo tessuto muscolare.
Nella conferenza stampa di ieri, Roberto Mancini ha trattato anche il tema della sostituzione del giocatore, avanzando la candidatura di Jimenez, giocatore finora rimasto spesso e volentieri fuori dalle scelte dell'allenatore marchigiano.
"Jimenez in effetti sino ad oggi non ha avuto molte possibilitàe quindi ci potrebbe anche stare un discorso relativo al mercato in uscita. Io, però, spero che l'assenza di Figo dia a Jimenez le occasioni per dimostrare il suo valore. Spero possa essere utile e che non insorga questo problema ".

Vertice telefonico. In attesa dell'incontro, che è per stamattina. L'Inter (Branca e Oriali) e Adriano (il suo manager Rinaldi) hanno deciso così: preparare per bene le carte, parlare con sinceritàe in amicizia, scovare la via d'uscita da questo tunnel che è la crisi di un campione. Crisi - si teme - irreversibile. Può essere, a 25 anni?
Nei discorsi, si sono messe a punto le strategie. E da quel che trapela Adriano e il suo manager hanno detto sì alla proposta dell'Inter di un prestito di sei mesi (da gennaio a giugno) fuori dall'Italia. L'ipotesi più probabile è quella del Manchester City: Eriksson giàlo scorso agosto aveva dato l'assenso per l'arrivo del brasiliano sempre in prestito ma il manager Rinaldi aveva declinato l'invito convinto che il giocatore si sarebbe riscattato agli occhi di Mancini e di tutta l'Inter. Ora anche lui si è reso conto che la situazione è tutt'altro che semplice, Adriano è vittima di se stesso e dei problemi che lo fanno soffrire da un anno e mezzo. Cambiare ambiente e magari levarsi di torno certe amicizie potrebbe giovargli così come l'impegno di un club che abbia la possibilitàdi farlo giocare.
L'ipotesi che Adriano rimanga comunque in nerazzurro è stata discussa su questo doppio binario. Jo e Ivanovic: ecco i nuovi obiettivi dell'Inter
Il primo ha incantato Mancini, il secondo è un pallino di Mihajlovic
Mancini e Mihajlovic, due allenatori e due richieste: il primo si è calcististicamente innamorato di Jo, 20enne attaccante del Cska Mosca, il secondo vorrebbe avere a Milano un suo pupillo, Branislav Ivanovic, 23enne difensore della Lokomotiv Mosca.
Andiamo con ordine. Il giovane attaccante brasiliano ha impressionato il tecnico nerazzurro nella doppia sfida di Champions League che ha visto l'Inter sconfiggere il Cska sia a Mosca che a San Siro. Jo è stato schierato titolare in entrambe le occasioni (in Russia quasi per caso, vista l'esclusione all'ultimo minuto di Vagner Love) e ha giocato due partite di altissimo livello segnando, tra l'altro, in entrambe le occasioni. Splendida la parabola con cui ha battuta Julio Cesar a Mosca, altrettanto pregevole il tiro con cui ha portato in vataggio la sua squadra a Milano nell'ultimo turno di Champions League. Mancini è rimasto letteralmente impressionato dall'ennesima stella emergente del calcio brasiliano e ha giàdato mandato alla societàdi intavolare una trattativa per portare a Milano il giocatore il prossimo giugno.
Per Mihajlovic, invece, Ivanovic non è certo una sorpresa, ma l'ottimo rendimento del centrale serbo nell'ultimo periodo ha convinto il vice allenatore dell'Inter a puntare tutto su di lui. Lo sta osservando da tempo e la partita di Coppa Uefa contro l'Aberdeen è stato un banco di prova importante. Sul giocatore c'è da tempo anche la Juventus che, però, è rimasta spaventata dal prezzo fatto dal club di Mosca: 14 milioni di euro è stata la valutazione data al giocatore. Una cifra importante per le casse bianconere che, però, hanno giàavuto il gradimento del difensore serbo e non intendo mollare la presa. L'asta è aperta.

Surely no....Atleast barca won't take him now....They have excess of super strikers and have quality youngsters as well......
Real you never know they are crazy.....but i think even they have dropped the galactico policy......
Man u is a possibility though....They don't have a target man since RVN left the club.......but tevez and roonay are working well......Among these 3 i think man u have the highest chances.....
Otherwise there will be second tier teams like valencia,atheletico madrid,tottenham......

Matrix returns in Sheffield

Inter talisman Marco Materazzi returned to action in the Nerazzurri’s youth team friendly against Sheffield FC last night.
The fiery stopper had been sidelined since sustaining a serious thigh injury while playing for Italy against Hungary in August.
Materazzi played 70 minutes in a game held to mark the 150th anniversary of Sheffield FC – recognised by FIFA as the world’s oldest club.
The Matrix looked sharp in a 5-2 win for the Beneamata with Mario Balotelli hitting a brace.
Portuguese youngster Pelè, Swedish 18-year-old Goran Slavkovski and Gianluca Litteri also found the target.
Ivan Fatic’s own goal and Rob Ward’s consolation ensured that the Northern Premiershit Division One South side came away with a creditable result.

MILAN - Inter's Brazilian left-winger Cesar Aparecido Rodrigues spoke about his team-mate and compatriot Adriano in an interview with Sky Italia.
"He's in a difficult situation", admitted Cesar. "Only he can change it, no one else can. He alone has to do more and he knows it. He has to find the strength and concentrate harder. I succeeded, but I'm not putting myself on the same level with him because he was the Emperor.
"You can only resolve these things by focusing and working hard. I did, and I played my last card in these past months. It was either do well, or do well. There were no alternatives.
"My career was questioned and it wasn't right for me to be in that condition. I gave my all and took advantage of the slightest chance. This is what Adriano has to do. It's hard and no one likes being in these situations.
"Should he change team? This is a personal matter. I did it a year ago and it helped me because I improved and regained the strengh that I might not have refound if I had stayed at Inter. And I succeeded. I honestly hope Adriano does this.

Inter are today being linked with CSKA Moscow’s Joao Jo, Vagner Love and Daniel Carvalho.
The Brazilian trio all impressed during Inter’s 4-2 Champions League win over CSKA on Wednesday night.
Twenty-year-old striker Jo, is said to be the player most of interest to the Nerazzurri. The giant hitman is fast, strong and skilful and scored a superb goal against Inter. The ex-Corinthians man would not come cheap though and is valued at between €15-20m.
Fellow strike-partner Vagner Love was also a constant thorn in the Beneamata backline and scored the second on Wednesday night. The 23-year-old has already played for Brazil on 20 occasions, scoring eight times, and is likely to command another high fee.

Troubled Inter striker Adriano is ready to accept a loan move away from the club during the January transfer window.
The 25-year-old has barely featured for the Nerazzurri this season, making just four appearances.
He is currently the fifth-choice striker at the club behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Hernan Crespo, Julio Cruz and David Suazo, and has not played a single minute in the last three Serie A matches against Palermo, Genoa and Juventus.
Adriano was lined up for a loan move during the summer but rejected the chance to leave in order to fight for his first-team place.
However the ex-Parma man’s well-documented personal problems continue to trouble him and earlier in the week he admitted that he is still suffering from depression.
Yesterday Inter Vice President Rinaldo Ghelfi held a two hour meeting with technical director Marco Branca and Adriano’s agent Gilmar Rinaldi, where it was agreed that Adriano will move on loan in January.

Adriano Hits Out At Mancini
Troubled Inter striker Adriano has hit out at Coach Roberto Mancini for not picking him recently.
The Emperor has barely featured this season and has made just four league appearances, scoring once.
He has not played at all in the last three Serie A matches with Palermo, Genoa and Juventus, and did not even make the squad for Turin last Sunday.
Adriano, who is the club’s fifth choice striker, was also left out of the squad list for the Champions League, thus rendering him ineligible for the group stages of the competition.
“I don’t want to dwell on the past and what has happened, but I started the season with a chance of playing and was then left out with no explanation,â€

Inter Milan assistant coach Sinisa Mihajlovic admits he's a bridge between the players and head coach Roberto Mancini.
Explaining his role, Mihajlovic said: "I talk with them all because I had the good fortune to be part of the group as a player for two years.
"They're more comfortable with me, and when something happens, for better or worse, they can speak with me about it, then I speak with Mancio and he can act. This is important because it creates a bridge between the dressing room and coach.
"It is useful to maintain a certain atmosphere and so have fewer problems."

Eriksson sets up Adriano deal for Man City

Manchester City boss Sven Goran Eriksson is using his friendship with Roberto Mancini to seal a sensational deal for troubled Inter Milan striker Adriano.
Controcampo says Eriksson has been in contact with his former Lazio star about a straight loan swap - with no fees involved - exchanging Adriano for Rolando Bianchi.
Both deals would be for six months, with permanent deals left open to be discussed at the end of the season.
Mancini and Eriksson have already agreed in-principle the swap, but the club's moneymen must still sign off on the deal - with Adriano's wages a clear £2.5 million-a-year greater than Bianchi's.

Cagliari star Robert Acquafresca may have attracted the interest of top English clubs in summer, but he has his eye on only one thing: a return to the San Siro with Internazionale...
Robert Acquafresca's future with Internazionale seems dim after being farmed out for the third consecutive season, but the young hitman is determined to return to succeed at the San Siro.
Indeed, the Cagliari number 9 insists that, such is his progress as a player, that top English clubs were on the lookout for his services in summer, meaning that he has the pedigree to play for the nerazzurri.
"I had attracted the interest of Arsenal and Manchester United," he claimed.
"But the team in my heart remains Inter and I hope to once again wear their shirt.
"Playing abroad doesn't really interest me."
Acquafresca arrived at Cagliari this summer in a co-ownership deal from Inter, having previously spent two seasons at Treviso in a similar situation.
The 20 year old forward has been capped at most levels of Italian youth football, including, most recently, the U-21 side.
A Polish-Italian, he is a product of Torino's youth system, but remains an Inter supporter.

La dirigenza del Metz e il procuratore del baby talento Miralem Pjanic (17) si sono di nuovo incontrati, qualche giorno fa, per discutere dei termini del nuovo contratto del giocatore (il quale si appresta a diventare pro, il 2 aprile 2008). Tuttavia non è stato ancora trovato l'accordo: una buona notizia per l'Inter, che tra le italiane rimane la più interessata al giocatore, sul quale ci sarebbe da ultimo anche l'interessamento di un grande club francese.
