Moratti closes transfer window

Massimo Moratti says that Andrea Poli and Diego Forlan are likely to be the last of the new arrivals at Inter this summer.

The Nerazzurri made Poli’s loan move from Sampdoria official yesterday, while Forlan has now arrived in Milan ahead of his switch from Atletico Madrid.

“It’s probable that they will be the final signings of the summer, even if we’ll have to see what happens,” the President told the Corriere dello Sport.

“The Uruguayan is certainly an important and a good reinforcement for us, he’s won a lot on the international stage.

“Rodrigo Palacio of Genoa? I don’t think that he will arrive.”

Moratti was also questioned about Gian Piero Gasperini’s probable use of the three-man defence in the campaign ahead.

“We’re just lining up differently, but there is faith in our Coach,” continued the Nerazzurri chief.

“A three-man defence shouldn’t be a problem. If the players enjoy themselves and things go well then that will be perfect.

“Otherwise, I think the Coach himself will change things.”

Inter and Genoa have swapped ownerships of Emiliano Viviano and Juraj Kucka, but both players will remain at their present clubs.

The two outfits concluded talks on Tuesday in which it was agreed that Viviano would remain at Inter and Kucka at Genoa on loan deals.

Their futures will then be reassessed in January.

The Nerazzurri have confirmed that Kucka, who was also wanted by Milan, has signed a contract with them until June 2016.

The Slovakian midfielder only joined the Marassi outfit in January, making 18 appearances for the Grifone in all competitions.

Italian international goalkeeper Viviano, meanwhile, is currently sidelined for six months after damaging knee ligaments in pre-season.

Colombian stopper Nelson Rivas is a free agent after his contract at Inter was rescinded by mutual consent.

The 28-year-old was tied to the Nerazzurri until June 2012 until the two parties agreed to go their separate ways.

The centre-back was signed in 2007 from River Plate, but he’s since spent loan stints at Livorno and Ukrainian outfit Dnipro.

Rivas made only 28 appearances for the Beneamata, with just 16 of those coming in Serie A.

Inter have completed the transfer of Diego Forlan from Atletico Madrid for an undisclosed fee. The experienced attacker has signed a contract until the summer of 2013 with the Serie A powerhouse.

The Giuseppe Meazza side were in the market for attacking reinforcements because of the departure of Samuel Eto'o to Anzhi Makhachkala and they have now found their man in the 32-year-old Forlan.

Forlan travelled to Milan earlier this week and voiced his ambition to help the club achieve their goals.

"I am happy to be here, Inter are a very important club, with great players," Forlan told Sky Sport 24.

"I am very thankful to [Inter] president [Massimo] Moratti. I have already spoken with [Esteban] Cambiasso, [Diego] Milito and [Javier] Zanetti and they have told me they are happy with me coming.

"I want to play well and win, I promise all the Inter fans I will do my best to help the club reach their goals."

Forlan previously wore the jerseys of Independiente, Manchester United and Villarreal before joining Atletico in 2007.

The Coppa Italia holders aren't done in the transfer market just yet though as they are also close to signing Lazio attacker Mauro Zarate on a one-year loan deal, Sky Sport 24 reports.

Lazio have allegedly accepted Inter's €2 million offer for the services of Zarate on a one-year deal with the option to make the move permanent at the end of his spell for a set fee.

Zarate has a contract until the summer of 2014 with Lazio, but the Argentine was keen to move on because of the stiff competition for a spot in the starting XI following the arrivals of Miroslav Klose and Djibril Cisse.

Zarate is a good buy. I am not sure if he will work as hard as Palacio but he is definitely technically better, not to mention younger too.

Mauro Zarate will play for Inter in the campaign ahead after he made a surprise move from Lazio.

The Argentine was told to find a new club after being informed that he no longer featured in the plans of boss Edy Reja.

The 24-year-old attacker will join the Nerazzurri on a loan deal that will cost the Milanese outfit €2.7m.

Inter will then have the option to buy him outright at the end of the season for a fee of around €15m.

Zarate’s move to Inter now suggests that previous target Rodrigo Palacio will remain with Genoa.

Moratti welcomes Zarate and Forlan

Massimo Moratti explains how Inter pushed through Mauro Zarate and Diego Forlan on transfer deadline day. “We’ve got great players.”

The Nerazzurri spent little of the €27m they earned from selling Samuel Eto’o to Anzhi, as Forlan arrived from Atletico Madrid for around €5m and Lazio loaned Zarate for €2.7m.

“Zarate came about after a phone call with Lazio President Claudio Lotito this morning,” revealed Moratti on the official Inter website.

“It seemed to me that, with a bit of debate, we reached a solution that allowed us to take him for this season and evaluate the permanent move. He’s a lovely lad, I met him today, and he’s very happy to be an Inter player.

“Now everything is in the hands of the Coach, but we’ve got great players.”

Lazio had been determined not to release Zarate for less than €20m cash, but instead Inter have him on loan with an option to buy for €15.5m.

There were fears the Nerazzurri would be weakened by selling Eto’o, but the arrival of these two South Americans has assuaged some of those concerns.

“In my view, and I say that as a fan, we have a very strong and interesting squad. There are some new players to be discovered and that is part of football that excites me. We also have many tactical options open to us, so I think it has certainly been a positive summer.

“Gian Piero Gasperini wanted a wide attacker, so Zarate is certainly closer to that style. It is important to have a side that gives the midfield and defence security, so we can then be more spectacular in attack.

“Forlan is one of those champions who makes the fans dream, while Wesley Sneijder stayed with Inter because he wanted to.

“I was optimistic a few days ago, but now we have completed the squad, I’m even more so,” concluded President Moratti.

So happy with the purchase of Zarate. Someone was expected to come considering we lost Sami and Pandev. Forlan is a bit over the hill but Zarate is one for the future still and only for 2.7m! In saying that we shouldn't expect much for next seasons transfer window considering if we want to keep Zarate we will have to pay Lazio 15mil. Perhaps we may unwillingly sell Sneijder then...

I see, thanks. I seen him play for Slovakia againts us yesterday, in which he was wasn't much use, and the commentator said Inter bought him for €16m, which I thought was way off the mark.

They are making a big deal out of Forlan not being available. It is stupid that everyone seemed to missed that he played in the Europa League qualifiers but him not being available should have no big impact on qualification. If you need Forlan to qualify from the group stages, especially with the group we are in, then we are not good enough to play in the CL in the first place. Not to mention, the real competition starts only in February.

I think it is kinda a big deal. It was a unprofessional mistake for your management to make. Forlan was included in your CL list while other players like that promising young Dutch striker – Castignos? – was left out.

I agree with Shield here. It's not about us missing Forlan in these matches, but the gaffe we made when putting his name in the list. At these levels one has to pay special attention to such rules.
