I don't think Poli is a regista really, is he? I never really thought of him as one, anyway, don't think he quite has the ability on the ball or the vision to fit that role. More of an all-rounder, a mezz'ala, perhaps.

Moratti: 'Forlan is on his way'

Massimo Moratti has confirmed “Diego Forlan is resolving his problems” for the move to Inter, but ruled out Mauro Zarate and Carlos Tevez.

The President spoke to Sky Sport Italia ahead of tonight’s hastily-organised friendly with Chievo.

“I think Forlan is resolving his problems with Atletico Madrid. We’ll see what happens over the next few hours,” said Moratti.

“As for Juraj Kucka, we are talking to Genoa about him. However, when it comes to Zarate and Tevez, I doubt for the moment there is a chance they could come to us.”

The Nerazzurri patron was also asked about renewed reports Wesley Sneijder could leave San Siro.

“No, he is staying with us.”

Samuel Eto’o was sold for €27m this week and scored on his debut for Anzhi.

“There is great affection and respect for him, for all he won for us, his professional behaviour and acting as a real leader in our team.

“He had this opportunity and wanted to take it, but we are tied to him, just as he feels close to us, both the club and fans.”

Gasp not worried by Inter loss

Gian Piero Gasperini was not shaken by Inter’s defeat to Chievo or Julio Cesar’s injury and is waiting for Diego Forlan.

The Nerazzurri organised a friendly to make up for the Serie A strike and fell to a surprise 3-2 loss against Chievo Verona.

“We played a good game and the result absolutely does not reflect the truth,” said the Coach. “I am happy. Aside from the defeat, the lads did very well. It was undoubtedly a step forward compared to recent matches.

“We were ready to play in Serie A and proved that tonight. The team is starting to really click.”

Gasperini was asked if the side would do even better once Forlan arrives from Atletico Madrid.

“We’ll see, there are still four days left in the transfer window and then some will go on international duty, so we’ll all be together ahead of the Palermo game. That is where we will begin from.

“As far as I am concerned, our transfer policy is very clear, but the market is complex and so I don’t know what we can actually achieve. If the team can be improved, especially in attack, then we’ll be even stronger.”

Yuto Nagatomo made his comeback after dislocating his shoulder last month, but Julio Cesar limped off with a knee problem during the Chievo game.

“It’s alright, there is no serious injury,” assured Gasperini.

Moratti welcomes Forlan and more

Diego Forlan is set to complete his transfer to Inter on Monday and Massimo Moratti reveals “we could make some other signings too.”

Atletico Madrid have already left the striker out of their Europa League and Liga games over the past week, confirming he is effectively no longer their player.

It is reported the Uruguayan is discussing unpaid wages with Atletico worth around €4m.

“Things are going well for Forlan,” President Moratti told Inter Channel. “He is resolving a few things with his club and I think we’ll complete the move soon. As for Juraj Kucka, he will be with us next season.”

The negotiations with Genoa for Kucka were expected to bring in Rodrigo Palacio as well, but those talks have hit problems.

“Palacio is very expensive, so I doubt anything will happen. As for Mauro Zarate and Carlos Tevez, at the moment there are no opportunities for them.”

It’s suggested Inter offered €5m for Palacio, but Genoa want at least double that for the Argentine striker.

“A lot will depend on the needs of the Coach, but from here to the end of August there are many options,” continued Moratti.

“We could therefore make some other signings too.”

Lazio 'won't accept loan' for Zarate

Mauro Zarate is wanted by Inter, Genoa and Paris Saint-Germain, but his agent warns Lazio “will not accept a loan deal.”

The striker is frozen out of the squad after refusing to play in the Europa League play-offs against Rabotnicki.

His contract includes a buy-out clause worth €20m and it’s reported President Claudio Lotito will only sell for that sum.

“There has been some timid interest from Inter for Maurito and I think the Nerazzurri can achieve something in the final days of the transfer market,” agent Beppe Bozzo told Sky Sport Italia.

“Inter are interested in a loan with an option to buy, but this formula is not particularly appreciated by President Lotito. He will not accept a loan deal.

“The real negotiations have to take place in a different way. If people want something to happen, then it will.”

Having said that, the agent pointed out not all is lost at the Stadio Olimpico despite the row with Coach Edy Reja.

“I don’t believe there are rapports that cannot be fixed in life, let alone in football. Everything can be put back together.

“If Mauro does stay at Lazio, he will confirm his status as a champion useful to the team and an added value. I don’t think Lotito will let him go easily.”

As expected, Inter have announced the loan capture of Italian Under-21 international Andrea Poli.

It emerged over the weekend that the Sampdoria midfielder was on his way and the move has been completed on Monday.

The 22-year-old will spend the next 12 months with the Nerazzurri, at the end of which the club will have the option to buy him outright.

Poli has penned a five-year deal with Inter which will become effective should the giants decide to keep him in 2012.

Forlan just arrived at milan tonight. To be honest I am not thrilled with today's new acquisitions, i.e. Poli and Forlan. Poli is certainly not a champion and Forlan, even though he is an excellent player, is not exactly what we need ... + he is 32 years old. I think that we still need to be active on the market to have a really competitive squad.

Kros, this squad is not good enough because Gasperini is insistent on playing a 3-4-3. If he can tweak it to a 3-4-1-2 or our tried and tested 4-3-1-2, we don't have that bad a squad. I agree that Poli and Forlan ( at 32) are not world beaters but we have a good enough squad to contend in the league. Pazzini/Milito and Forlan with Sneijder behind them is not bad. We also have a decent replacement for Sneijder in Alvarez, which we missed last season.

There are still two more days but the arrivals of Palacio/Zarate look very unlikely. It makes the departure of Pandev even more difficult to understand. He was not ideal to play as a wide forward in Gaperini's 3-4-3 but one would have thought that we would have had a replacement before throwing out Pandev for a miserly 1m loan deal.

I am also a little sad that we are selling Santon outright. So much was expected out of him. I would like us to sign a deal similar to Barca's Bojan deal with Roma. Sell him for a fee now and have a buy back option in 2 years for a higher price.

Yeah I agree with you there Frank. Our main problem right now is that Gasperini wants to play a game we aren't capable of playing. Maybe we do have good men in the right positions when it comes to the 3-man-defense and to a certain extent, I'm pretty sure that Maicon will like the idea of playing nearer to the midfield when he comes back. But we dont have the adequate players for a 2-man central midfield and we dont have the right men for the 2 wide forward positions. We have an incredible amount of central strikers (Pazzini, Milito, Castaignos & Forlan), Trequartisti (Sneijder, Alvarez & Coutinho) but with all those players, practically only one will get to play in his ideal position..a central striker. All the others, in order to play will need to be adapted to other positions..a 4-3-1-2 would be ideal for this team. I have always thought that a good manager should know how to adapt his schemes to his players, not the other way round. Gasperini for some reason is insisting on a scheme we currently cannot play.

Santon to Newcastle?? Seems like an odd move. Why would Inter sell a versatile, 20-year-old Italian international? Sure, he hasn't quite delivered on his early promise, but he's still quite young. I thought he may leave yis this season but only on loan.

Davide Santon has officially completed his move to Newcastle United with a five-year contract. “It was too good to turn down.”

The Inter defender, who can play as left-back or right-back as well as on both wings, put pen to paper this evening at St. James’ Park for “an undisclosed fee” and will wear the number 3 shirt.

“We are delighted to bring to Davide to Newcastle,” manager Alan Pardew told nufc.co.uk.

“He is a quality left-back and an established international who also gives us flexibility in defence.

“Davide is a young lad and a great signing for us and I am sure he will adapt to the Premiershit very quickly.”

Once nicknamed ‘the new Paolo Maldini,’ Santon leapt to fame at Inter as an 18-year-old and has seven senior caps for Italy, even though he has now returned to the Under-21 squad.

Pushed to the sidelines at Inter by a series of injuries and competition for places, he spent the last six months on loan at Cesena.

“I am really pleased to sign for Newcastle. The chance to play in the Premiershit and in front of 50,000 fans at St. James' Park was too good to turn down,” said 20-year-old Santon.

“This is an ambitious club who want to move forward and I want to help them achieve that.”

The official Newcastle United website dedicated a large page to their new Italian arrival.

Managing director Derek Llambias said:

“The signing of Davide Santon is a real coup for this club,” added managing director Derek Llambias.

“It confirms our commitment to bringing quality players whose best years are ahead of them to St. James’ Park.”

I dont know what to make of this transfer. He started off very well with Inter breaking into the first team in 2008-09 but since has fallen down the wayside and he didnt really seem to do much at Cesena either. We have lost Jose Enrique so a LB was a priority but i thought we would have gone for someone more experienced. He is still only 20 so there is a lot of time for him to improve. Hopefully he will get to grips with the pace of the EPL and come good for us.

Newcastle sign Inter Milan left-back and Italian international Davide Santon

Newcastle United signed defender Davide Santon from Inter Milan on Wednesday as the north-east side found a replacement for Jose Enrique following the left-back's departure for Premiershit rivals Liverfekkin'wankscum.

The 20-year-old Italian international signed a five-year deal for an undisclosed fee, reported to be around £5 million ($7.6 million), after flying into Tyneside for a medical earlier on Tuesday.

"We are delighted to bring Davide to Newcastle," said Magpies manager Alan Pardew.

"He is a quality left-back and an established international who also gives us flexibility in defence.

"Davide is a young lad and a great signing for us and I am sure he will adapt to the Premiershit very quickly."
