€45m Pastore set for PSG

Javier Pastore insists he doesn’t know where he will be playing in the new campaign – but it looks like it will be at Paris SG.

The race for his signature now seems to be a straight battle between PSG and Chelsea after Palermo made it clear that he would be sold.

“I’m on holiday so I don’t know anything about PSG or Chelsea,” the Argentine international commented.

“I have my agent working on it.”

Nevertheless, reports in the peninsula are insisting that the 22-year-old playmaker is heading for Ligue 1.

Paris SG director Leonardo has been in talks with Rosanero officials this week and a deal is on the verge of completion.

It’s claimed that Palermo, who had insisted the youngster was worth €50m, will accept €45m from the French capital outfit.

I thought he'd be going to a bigger club than PSG. I know they have all the cash now but I thought Chelsea, Real Madrid or another established top European club.

Its fucking sad to see Pastore leave Italy, especially after Sanchez's departure. Two of Europe's brightest young talents both leaving Serie A. But Italian clubs just can't complete with these foreign-owned clubs like PSG who can easily offer €45 for a player.

Hey everyone, just stumbled across this forum and seems pretty active for an english-speaking serie a forum so though I'd join. I'm actually a Man Utd fan, but me and a few friends (all english and all huge football fans) have all decided to follow a european team starting from next season and adopt them as their second team. I have chosen Palermo, really wanted to follow the serie A and after reading they have one of the best away supports in the league and the strong sense of independence because they are from Sicily I really liked the sounds of them.

Gutted to see Pastore and Sirigu go. Out of curiosity, how good have our summer signings been this season? And are we likely to spend the money we receive from Pastore? If we were to spend, what areas of the team needs improving the most? Sorry for so many questions, still learning about the club!

And as for the FC Thun game tonight, excited to watch my first Palermo game properly (if I can find a stream!) but will be a nervy one considering the first leg score. Do people reckon we will go through?

I haven't heard too much about players you've signed, apart from Matias Silvestre, a defender from Catania (Palermo's fierce rivals), for €7m. Pastore will be a massive loss. I don't know if you've watched him much but he's a superb player and will be a big loss. He'll need replacing, just make sure Zamparini spends the money properly.

Italian teams never take the Europa League too seriously unfortunately, but I've read articles with Miccoli and a couple of others saying they are all determined to get through tonight. Palermo are certainly a better team than Thun, but they messed up the home leg. Could go either way.

Javier Pastore has officially signed a five-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain, completing his €42m move from Palermo.

The deal was struck earlier this week, but only finalised this afternoon following a medical.

The Argentine put pen to paper on a five-year contract today and was pictured signing the forms on Twitter.

“I chose PSG ahead of Chelsea because I needed a team that would suit my characteristics,” he explained.

“I also knew that for my development I would need to play regular first team football, so I have more chance of that in Paris.”

According to L’Equipe, he won’t be able to play until early September, as he has just returned from vacation and Copa America duty.

Pastore has chosen shirt number 27 and will be in the stands for tonight’s Ligue 1 opener against Lorient.

He’ll be accompanied by director general, and former Inter Coach, Leonardo.

It's always hard for Palermo to achieve consistency and push on when Zamparini can't wait to put himself in the headlines again, unfortunately.

Paraguay international Edgar Barreto has confirmed he is joining Palermo from Atalanta on transfer deadline day, and he has been swiftly joined at the Sicilian side by Honduras winger Edgar Alvarez and a third midfielder, Francesco Della Rocca.

Barreto, 27, revealed via Twitter that he has signed a four-year deal with the Sicilians, who will become his third club in Italy following a previous spell with Reggina.

Barreto did not disclose the transfer fee which took him from Atalanta, but thanked his former employers for his spell at the club.

"I am a new Palermo player... I signed at midday [Paraguayan time]," the player informed via the social networking site, in response to questioning from fans.

"Atalanta, thank you for these past two years!"

Barreto joins teenage compatriot Daniel Jara Martinez at the club, as well as a host of South Americans - including Uruguayan Abel Hernandez and Argentines Nicolas Bertolo and Ezequiel Munoz.

And he is also set to link up with another Edgar, Alvarez, after the Honduran sealed a move from Bari on Wednesday, and Della Rocca, who arrives from Bologna to complete a triple midfield swoop on deadline day for the Sicilian side.
