Houssine Kharja is finally a Fiorentina player after he completed his transfer from Genoa.

The Viola confirmed the swoop of the 29-year-old midfielder on their website earlier today.

Kharja has joined in a co-ownership deal and agreed a two-year contract, with the option for a third.

Financial aspects of the move have not been announced, but it is being suggested that he cost the Tuscan club €3m.

The Moroccan has been paired with the Stadio Artemio Franchi outfit over recent times after he was told to find a new club.

The former Siena man only returned to Marassi this summer after spending the last six months of the previous campaign at Inter.

Kharja joined the Nerazzurri on loan in January, but the club opted against signing him outright at the end of the 2010-11 campaign.

A 2-1 victory over Citadella (1--1 at half time) this evening puts us safely into the fourth round of the Coppa Italia. An early goal from Gila was equalised by Di Carmine (ironically a product of the Viola youth system). In the second half a cracker from Cerci proved to be the winner. The line-up was: Boruc; Di Silvestri, Gamberini, Natale, Pasqual; Behrami, Montolivo (Kharja 70), Lazzari (Munari 81); Cerci, Gilardino, Jovetic (Ljajic 85). I managed to catch the second half on Calcion via La7. Cerci would be my choice as man of the match.
I know it's early days, but I don't see the team as being any improvement on last year. Boruc isn't as good a keeper as Frey and the return of Jo-Jo just about makes up for the loss of Mutu, though he didn't look fully tuned up. Otherwise it's very much the mixture as before and if Vargas goes that's a definite minus. Kharja and Monto are so similar that I don't see them both on the park at the same time. Lazzari and Munari are good enough and work hard but they're not world beaters. Behrami is probably as good as Donadel, but I'd take the latter any day for his commitment. I was hoping to see Romulo - he was on the bench but didn't appear.
I see from the list that we're still saddled with Felipe. Let's all pray that Gambo, Natale and Kroldrup stay fit and clear of suspension. Let's also hope Cerci continues to shine and keeps Marchionni where he belongs - on the bench.

Velez Sarsfield have announced on their official website the transfer of striker Santiago Silva to Fiorentina for a fee of €1.7 million.

The news comes as a huge blow to the Argentine club, who have witnessed the departure of another important attacking player following the €12 million sale of Ricky Alvarez to Inter earlier in the summer.

Velez president Fernando Raffaini said the club had no interest in parting company with the 30-year-old, but as Fiorentina met the striker's release clause, there was nothing he could do to avoid the transfer.

"We offered him a very good three-year contract, but the player expressed the need to take this opportunity to return to Europe and have his revenge," Raffaini said at a press conference.

Silva will be hoping to make his mark in the European continent after a first spell without much success at Energie Cottbus and Beira-Mar.

Fiorentina have stayed silent on this matter, and there has been no indication about the length of the Uruguayan's contract.

A good signing for Fiorentina, but I have to say I found this move a little strange. Why would Palermo allow their captain to join a direct rival on loan for the season (albeit with an option to buy)? Its a bit of odd move on Palermo's part.

Oh yeh, with Miccoli injured for so long it seemed as if Cassani was their club captain. I also thought Miccoli was destined to leave Palermo, he was rumbling on for a while that he was unhappy and going to leave (although thats probably normal behaviour at a club like Palermo). Good signing for Fiorentina anyway, they need to improve their defence.

Caught the second half of Sunday's game. It looked a comfortable victory but, no disrespect to Bologna, we need to see la Viola up against stronger opposition before making any forecasts for the season. Cassani looks to be an excellent addition. He's more experienced and has a better positional sense than di Sivestri. Having Jo-Jo back and looking none the worse for his long layoff is a major boost and more than makes up for the loss of Mutu and (probably) Vargas. Cerci's recent goal scoring exploits seem to have made him more confident and he's making fewer mistakes than before. I still think letting Donadel go was a huge error. Behrami may be just as good going forward, but he doesn't provide as good a cover for the defence.
Interesting point. When Gambo had to go off the captain's armband went to Jo-Jo and not Monto. Suggests the latter is still up for grabs come January.

No contract on the table for Montenegro star

Stevan Jovetic's agent admits that there are no contract talks planned with Fiorentina. Reports had claimed that the 23-year-old was set to be handed a new long-term deal. But his agent Fali Ramadani has now confirmed that no deal is in the pipeline.

"The boy feels good and that is the most important thing now," he told Radio Blu. "He still has two years of contract and I still have no appointment with the club.

"Stevan has always said he wanted to remain, his will is clear. But now the important thing is to do well on the field, the rest there is still a long time for that."

Any glimmer of optimism we may have felt after the victory over Bologna was quickly extinguished yesterday. Udinese were superior to us in every department and won desevedly. They had obviously worked out that Jo-Jo was the danger man and put two defenders on his heels from the start. He was virtually a prisoner and his game suffered accordingly. I can't recall us having a shot of any kind let alone one on goal. The nearest we came was the scramble when Gila got injured (he'll be out for six weeks). It's difficult to single out any of our players who did well.
According the the commentator (Max Patrick, who is normally pretty reliable) Miha gave a press statement last week in which he said that he wanted to take the shadow of Prandelli away from the team and make them more aggressive. Behrami, Monto and Munari seemed to have taken the words to heart - all three got booked for stupid and unnecessary fouls. If that is Miha's intention then the sooner he gets the boot the better. The Viola have always concentrated on good football in the twenty years I've been watching them - let's keep it that way and leave the aggression to others.
I thought Gambo was a little unlucky with the penalty in that his jump for the ball was slightly mistimed. It was a penalty though; even biased as I am I can't dispute that.
I honestly can't see this season being any better than last. I would say that mid table is the best we can hope for and I'll be thankful if we don't get sucked into the relegation area.

Miha: 'Jeer Montolivo at the end'



Sinisa Mihajlovic has asked Fiorentina fans to jeer Riccardo Montolivo only after the game, “so as not to disrupt the rest of the team.”
The former captain has broken off contract extensions and made it clear he wants to leave, either in January or as a free agent in the summer.

However, the club told Mihajlovic it is up to him whether to use the Italian international.

“Riccardo should play against Parma tomorrow,” said the Coach. “I explained to him what could happen. I saw him relaxed and motivated.

“Our fans are intelligent and know that if they jeer a player, they’re not helping the team. I hope the supporters do not jeer during the game or at least wait to the end so as not to disrupt the rest of the team.

“If it does happen, then Riccardo must get used to it or maybe play with earplugs. The situation is getting to him, as he risked a red card against Udinese. There has been too much talk about this situation.”

With Alberto Gilardino out for six weeks with a knee injury, Montolivo is the star player, as Santiago Silva is given his first Serie A start.

“My squad is aware that we must find consistency in terms of results, otherwise we’re going nowhere. Parma always play to win and it is going to be difficult, but we want to repeat the performance that saw us beat Bologna here.

“We signed Santiago as an understudy to Gilardino, but he still needs to get used to Italian football and hasn’t yet assimilated certain movements. Gilardino is more of a fox in the box, whereas Silva plays more of a part in the build-up.

“My players are angry and disappointed at the defeat to Udinese, but that was only our second game of the season, so we mustn’t make a tragedy out of it. We’ve got to learn from our mistakes and change attitude.”

Ha, pretty silly comments alright. "at least wait to the end to jeer him", lol. Mihajlovic should know better, if he wants to continue playing a player who should be frozen out then he has to accept the fans will be unhappy.
