Does anyone else think Moratti might actually just be trying to recoup some of the money he's spent over the years? Having now finally achieved something - the CL, the World Club Title, a bit of national success - and now is just going to go about quietly resizing the club before selling it in three or four years?

OFFICIAL: ANZHI HAVE ETO'O DEAL

“Today an agreement was reached between the football clubs, Anzhi and Inter, for the transfer of Samuel Eto'o,” read an official statement.

Anzhi released the statement to finalise the €27m deal with a three-year contract expected to be worth €20.5m per season.

"Today an agreement was reached between the football clubs, Anzhi and Inter, for the transfer of Samuel Eto'o.

"The terms of the transfer are completely agreed on both sides. Anzhi expresses gratitude to the leadership of Inter Milan for their professional and constructive approach in the negotiations.

"Tomorrow the player will undergo a medical examination, following which the player will be awarded a three-year contract.

"On Thursday, Samuel will arrive at the location of his new team and will begin preparations for the match against FC Rostov."

Now, with some money in hand I expect a few serious moves from the club.

Regarding Moratti, I disagree with all those saying that he wants to sell the club etc. etc. Moratti is still filthy rich (probably more than when he bought Inter - judging by the price of oil) and he would still be very willing to put money into his own pockets to strengthen the squad. Problem is that the FFP rules do not allow club owners to balance accounts by putting their hands into their pockets. To add insult to injury, we do not have our own stadium - hence less revenue, and marketing the Inter brand in other countries and continents has started only in the recent years (English clubs have been doing so for a dozen years now).

says Eto will earn a staggering £345,000 a week AFTER TAX. That is just beyond crazy. UEFA or FIFA or the Lord above, someone really needs to introduce salary (as well as transfer) caps for the sake of the game.

If Moratti is still filthy rich and wants to continue investing in Inter (or to pass it on to his son) while abiding to the new FFP rules, then why doesn't he build Inter a new stadium to increase future revenue potential?

Thats interesting, thanks Lomba. Its not surprising to hear that plans for something like the building of new stadio are being delayed or hindered by all the bureaucracy which exists in Italian society. Its something which is desperately needed throughout the entire country and something which can only help calcio as a whole to allow it to catch up to other European leagues, yet like most things in Italy, change always take a long time in coming. I can only imagine similar problems if and when Roma ever decide to build a new stadio.

Inter have officially sold Samuel Eto’o to Anzhi Makhachkala after he passed his medical today.

“F.C. Internazionale announces that the agreement with F.C. Anzhi Makhachkala for the transfer of Samuel Eto'o has been finalised,” read a statement.

“President Massimo Moratti and everyone at Inter bid an affectionate farewell to Eto'o, with whom they shared two fantastic seasons with passion and professionalism: 102 games, 53 goals and 6 unforgettable trophies.

“We sincerely wish Samuel all the best of luck in achieving further success with his new club.”

Although the financial details have not been confirmed, it’s believed Inter receive €27m and Eto’o signs a three-year contract worth €20.5m per season.

PSG fail in Milito bid

Inter have reportedly rejected an offer from Paris Saint-Germain for Argentine striker Diego Milito.

According to stories coming out of France, PSG had targeted the forward at the request of Leonardo.

The latter is now the French club’s sporting director after stepping down as Inter Coach during the summer.

Having agreed to sell Samuel Eto’o to Russian giants Anzhi this week, the Italian club are refusing to now release the former Genoa ace.

Zarate is exactly the type of player we need. Can play wide, has the pace and trickery to beat defenders one on one and is still young. However, I don't think he will end up at Inter. We are looking for loan deals with option to buy, I don't think many clubs would be willing to do that. I read somewhere that its the same situation with Genoa, we don't want to spend the cash on Kucka and Palacio immediately.

Forlan is the only one who seems the most likely to arrive as his cost around 5-7m.

Some are predicting we won't even make it to the CL. Being CL winners to not even qualify for the competition in a span of two years. That's a disaster.

Right there is sceptisism around us because we are selling probably our best player. Fact is that without us selling Eto'o, there was no way we would have bought anyone. So question is, were we really better off with the squad we had last year (+ a couple of youngsters...Alvarez, Castaignos, Jonathan) or without Eto'o + 2 forwards & a midfielder? For me the answer is very easy..last year's team was a well known quantity..this year's is an unknown quantity. Could be better or worse...but I'd rather take the risk than knowing beforehand that I wont be competitive.
