Arsenal TRY to play a holding midfielder. They've gone through the likes of Diaby, Denilson, Song and Frimpong but all that wont matter when Fabregas and Nasri leave. I think it gives them an opportunity to rebuild around Wilshere with support from Arshavin and Van Persie. Or they can stick to their guns and use this new kids Lansbury and Ryo Miyaichi to fill in Fabregas's gaping hole

Ive noticed alot of EPL teams try to play the 4-5-1, notoriously Man Ure against us. I dont think any were daring enough to have actually have a pure regista (i still think most EPL players in that spot have some box to box quality unlike in Italy) and a trequartista playing as a prima punta (post striker, im assuming??)

I concur with Maro about Lasanna Diarra. Ive seen him play DMF to RB and he's such a merc, i would hate signing a contract with him.

Took me awhile to find this again but when you guys mentioned DDR covering for our fullbacks in a virtual 2-5-3, it reminds me of what Villas-Boas had Porto and now Chelsea playing.

I would hate for DDR to be just a destructive player as it makes him very one dimensional and he might cut a frustrated and petulant figure. He likes to get forward and he likes to get into positions where he can shoot on goal, why deprive him some more?? I say bring Fernando if that's how we must play under LE

mmm. I wondered when a version of the old DDR-has-been-hampered-by-having-to-do-all-the-defending-to-cover-for-fookin'-Pizarro argument would come up. As you can see from my comments over the past few weeks, on this one I don't concur, Pocari.

Carrick is a natural regista and Mikel has been playing exactly in that role for Chelski for a couple of years now. Tom Huddlestone plays it when he plays for Spurs.

I by no means want Pizza there, though. He's less of a mezz'ala and more of a regista, I think. even if they find another position for him, I'd rather have someone younger & more pacy taking up 33% of our midfield positions

The current transfer dealings lands us about €13m in the red - if we sell Okaka and Pizza for €10m, we'll be at -€3m - this coupled with wage cuts (Cicinho is getting an actual wage cut, and virtually every replacement we have signed has lower wages than the player he replaced) the reported €30m bank loan that TBD is planning puts us at +€27m, give or take.

However, that's not all - reports have come out that TBD is planning a €12m cash injection from his own pocket. if that is true, it will bag us a top, top RB like Van Der Wiel (and if it is not, just replace VDW with Cici and put Cass and Rosi as backups).

and if the €12m cash injection rumour is true, that will bag us a top, top RB like Van Der Wiel as a bonus (and if the rumours are not true, just replace VDW with Cici and put Cassetti and Rosi as backups).

Money that, sadly, we won't be seeing this year.

My reaction was one of surprise because I don't recall Roma performing well. Or more specifically, I seem to recall being underwhelmed, but that could be my general reaction to some of our CL performances. I recall the 'good old days' when we had some good runs under Spalletti, but I remember a lot of bad days too.

article from RomaNews is a little weird, claiming that Di Benedetto is only a "transitional administration pending the true buyer", in that he only bought the club in order to sell it on, possibly to Diego Della Valle.

this season are actually lower than last, which is surprising. So far there are only 15,000 sold as of the start of August compared to 18,617 last season.

That article is strange indeed. If Della Valle wanted to buy Roma, why would Di Benedetto be an interim buyer? I'm not sure I see the logic of it, as Di Be would come in and clean things up and then presumably want more money than he paid for the team.
