Watched the game, and read through your comments guys. I really thought this was the worst performance we put in all year long. It was just torture to watch this game. We were too fucking lucky to come up with a point today, and I couldn't believe that Pizarro scored that. I don't know who you blame for this one, but I really thought Cicinho/Cassetti should shoulder the blame for this one. The Sporting players got all the space, and time they wanted, on the wings because these two guys seemed to be always caught out of position. The team was just pitiful today.

Giamoldo, your point is well taken. I must reluctantly agree with you relative to those areas you point to as direct evidence that we are not a top tier club. That is, as an organization. I firmly believe we have enough talent in this squad to win a scudetto and/or and CL trophy. I do not think our obstacle is talent. Right now, we are plagued with injuries and we seem to have problems in mental preparation. I used to have a coach who said you must be in the "right frame of mind" to play well enough to win. He used to point out the mental side of the game which we all sort of had a hard time believing. We mentioned training yesterday. That same coach of ours used to say "you play the way you practice". It all sounds very cliched but I know this to be true. Our boys have the talent.

As Maro said, we have a lot of young, inexperienced players. This is true. But we also have 3 world champions and also players like Panucci and Giuly who have won big trophies. Leadership has to not only come from Spalletti, but also some of the more exerpienced players.

that's some great reading over the last couple of pages, guys. very insightful discussion and unfortunately painfully true with respect to our 'status' as a second-teir team. i say "painful" only because, like most here, the beginning of the season looked so promising and i genuinely thought we'd be the darkhorse to take the title this year, hoping that inter would concentrate on securing a cl and be less interested in the scudetto. we're only a third of the way into the season so hopefully my pessimism will be proved wrong moving forward. i guess it wopuld also be nice to see a healthy 'first team' lineup for an extended stretch to see what we are really made of and to be able to assess our needs for the following season, which will be even more competative when juve and milan get their reinforcements.

Simone was as clumsy as anyone with the ball on those counter-attacks yesterday...although I noticed that his teammates were making brutal off the runs when he had the ball.
