I imagine they don't want to sell Vooch (unlike one or two in these parts) - it's just that they will if he wants to go. The comments on Totti-Baldini look like they might be part of an attempt to clip Francesco's wings.

I think that's a couple of days old, Goffredo. I'd prefer they did their keeping of Totti in line in private; surely that's actually the way a serious club deals with such things. Baldini's chuntering to the media, if intended to work in this way, is pretty poor.

Sempre secondo France Football, il Psg, guidato dal nuovo direttore sportivo Leonardo, verserà per Menez 8 milioni di euro più un bonus di 1 milione in caso di qualificazione nella prossima Champions League. Menez, che sulle rive della Senna indosserà la maglia numero 7, farà la visita medica domani mattina, sostiene ancora la rivista che ogni anno assegna il 'Pallone d'orò, precisando che «sarà poi presentato ai media prima di allenarsi con i nuovi compagni si squadra nel pomeriggio». Presente a Parigi già da oggi a mezzogiorno, il romanista firmerà domani con la squadra parigina un contratto di tre anni e non di quattro come annunciato in un primo tempo.

I wonder where they will play him? As a second-forward in a 4-4-1-1 or some equivalent, or down the wing? It will be interesting to see how he gets on. Fonz is probably right that he's never going to deliver on his promise, but I will be sad to see us give up on him, nonetheless.

Taraabt, after all, is a true second-forward, no? And the stories were that it was one or the other for PSG.

I"m kind of sad to see Menez go. He was a player I was really excited about when we got him and somehow I was hoping that maybe *this* coaching change would help him fulfill his promise. However, if LE is okay with his leaving, it wasn't going to happen anyway.

The best thing I've hard about LE is that he's like Spalletti. I'd still like Spalletti back, but if he's like him, I'm happy. Sort of.

I consider Taarabt to be a bit more of a trequartista type, rather than a SS, Maro.

Still, I would think that PSG's intention is probably to play Menez centrally off a main striker.

Thanks, red. I see the wiki page describes him as an AM and it's only last season that he actually started getting the goals one might expect of a forward and that in a free-scoring QPR side for which I gather he took many of the set-pieces too. I thought you or Gregoire might put me right.

Gutted about Menez. He was quality in some games last season, thinking of his run for Borriello's winner at Milan, was our biggest threat in most games with his pace and direct running.

So, sad to see him go but we'll have to trust LE. Forza Roma!

I agree, sad to see Menez go. Despite all the frustration and all the inconsistency and moaning associated with him, I can't help but feel like we've unfinished business with him, like we've been working hard with him but have yet to draw the undeniable talent he has within him and we're giving up on him to early. Who knows, maybe he'll never quite deliver on all promise, but I think he will eventually mature and develop into a top-quality, all-round player.

And how much did we buy him for? Wasn't it like €10.5m? And now we're selling him for reportedly €8m? Eh, call me crazy, but that sounds like bad business to me. In the few years that he's been with us he's been called up to the France squad by Laurent Blanc and made his debut with them last year, and looks to be a permanent fixture in their ranks. Also, PSG have fuckloads of money with their spanky new foreign-owners, so surely we could look for more than a paltry €8m. I don't think all the details of the deal have been revealed, but it doesn't seem right.

If there's something positive which can come from this its that perhaps that after the departure of Menez we won't want to lose another of our established players in Vucinic.

I believe he is in the last year of his contract. That may explain the lower than expected price. Though I may be wrong.

Good point. Although from watching him in Brunico, he doesn't look like a lad who's too unhappy and so may sulk through the oncoming season and refuse to sign a new deal and then leave on a Bosman next year. If we really wanted I'm sure we could offer him a new deal which he'd be happy to sign. Although at this point, perhaps we can take it that he's not part of LE's plans and so that why he's on the way out. Its a bit disappointing, I thought he could become a very useful player for LE.

There have been comments over the past couple of weeks that he wanted to leave and wasn't interested in signing an extension. I forget where they were recorded - in interviews with LE or, more plausibly, Sabre.
