The agent of Ajax goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg has claimed that his client would like a move to Serie A side Roma.

A new man between the posts has been on Roma's agenda this summer and Luis Enrique's side have now identified the Netherlands shot-stopper as the ideal man to fill the void, having lodged a €6 million bid.

Roma were recently linked with Espanyol custodian Carlos Kameni, but failed to reach an agreement for his transfer, and Stekelenburg's representative has revealed the player is keen on a switch to the Italian capital.

"Maarten would like a move to Roma, otherwise I would not be having talks with the club," Rob Jansen explained to Voetbal International.

In spite of the player's desire to swap the Dutch capital for Rome, Jansen said that any deal was a long way from being completed and that negotiations between the two clubs are still ongoing.

"The negotiations are not progressing smoothly. The two clubs are some distance apart but there will be further talks today [Thursday] in Amsterdam. Ajax have not yet set a deadline."

Eredivisie champions Ajax risk losing Stekelenburg, who has 40 caps for the Dutch national team, on a free transfer as his contract runs in at the end of 2012 and they have made it clear that they would like to extend terms with the 28-year old.

I think we will end up with Stekelenburg, as Ajax will eventually give in and sell him at a reduced price considering his contract is up next year. I have to say, though, I'm not hugely convinced by Stekelenburg. Thats not to sound negative or anything, as he probably is an upgrade over anything we've have now, but I've watched him for a few years with Ajax and Holland and he's never really stood out as a top-class keeper. He may prove to be a good signing, but i'm not falling over myself in delight like some are at the prospect of his arrival. Shay Given is twice the keeper he is (in all seriousness).

More so than getting a new goalkeeper, I'm more concerned with signing a new defender, you know to replace the two we lost on free transfers this mercato. Only Burdisso, Juan and a raw 18-year-old on our books. Its getting worrying at this stage.

E' fatta per Gabriel Heinze. Il difensore argentino è atterrato a Fiumicino pochi minuti fa e già domani raggiungerà i suoi nuovi compagni a Brunico.

Secondo quanto riferito da Sky Sport infatti, nella giornata di domani Heinze sarà a Riscone e si unirà alla squadra per completare la preparazione.

Il 33/enne difensore argentino Gabriel Ivan Heinze sarà il rinforzo difensivo della nuovo Roma nella prossima stagione. Il giocatore - attualmente svincolato - è sbarcato nel primo pomeriggio nella capitale. Ha firmato un contratto di un anno con opzione per il secondo a 600mila euro a stagione più bonus.

As much as I love a ton of shit about Daniele, he has been nothing short of a disappointment for a few years running. If he wasn't a roman or permanent fixture on the azzurri, I'd drive his ass to the airport for 25M Euros.
