Lamela won’t join Roma

Roma have ruled themselves out of the race to sign Erik Lamela from Argentine giants River Plate.

River President Daniel Passarella is expected to talk to a number of clubs in the peninsula over the next few days.

One of them was set to be Roma given that new sporting director Walter Sabatini has spoken of his admiration for the 19-year-old.

However, talking with Radio Mana Mana on Wednesday, Sabatini insists the Giallorossi won’t sign the attacking midfielder.

I was kinda hoping we'd get Lamela, though – not that I know a whole lot about him other than the usually unreliable YouChewb's of him – but 'twould be nice to sign a really promising up-and-coming next-big-thing who we could 'mould' and develop into our own Pastore sorta thing.
