Striker David Suazo has left Inter Milan after his contract expired at the Giuseppe Meazza.

The Honduran did not feature for the Italian club last season and as a result they decided not to offer him an extension.

Suazo, 31, will now consider his options, but insists he is still determined to continue his playing career and would like to remain in Serie A.

He told Gazzetta dello Sport: "I have the will to play and I would like to stay in Italy. I have faith in my agent."

Suazo joined Inter in 2007, but spent time out on loan at Benfica and Genoa, where he could have stayed but they could not afford his wages.

Ogbonna seen as heir to Lucio

Torino and Italy Under-21 international Angelo Ogbonna is lined up by Inter as a replacement for Lucio.

The 23-year-old centre-back has already been linked with several top clubs, including Juventus, Milan, Napoli and Arsenal.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Ogbonna is targeted as the ideal replacement for Lucio if the Brazilian does not extend his contract.

Lucio’s current deal only runs to June 2012 and therefore he will be sold this summer to avoid being released as a free agent next year.

“Ogbonna has matured, earned experience and proved he is ready for top clubs like Napoli,” agent Carlo Pallavicino told Radio Crc.

“I think the moment has come for him to step up a level.”

Inter snatch Alvarez from Arsenal

Italian media are widely reporting Inter have snatched Ricky Alvarez out from under Arsenal’s noses for €12m.

It was believed the Gunners had a deal in place for the Velez Sarsfield creative midfielder.

However, the Nerazzurri stepped in with a counter-offer and a five-year contract worth €1.2m per season.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, Inter met with his agent yesterday and the move could be completed as early as next week.

Alvarez had also been tracked by Roma and Palermo, but the Giallorossi pulled out of a pre-contract agreement because of the €15m asking price.

The player has an Italian passport, so does not take up an EU slot in the transfer budget.

He’s not the only Argentine talent on Inter’s wish-list, as they are also looking at River Plate’s Erik Lamela and Valencia midfielder Eder Banega.

Moratti lashes out against Inter Calciopoli accusations

Inter President Massimo Moratti has slammed the allegations made by FIGC chief investigator Stefano Palazzi where he claimed that the Nerazzurri were also guilty of sporting fraud during the Calciopoli trial. Palazzi who is in charge of the trial in Naples had rejected Juventus' appeal to have the 2006 Scudetto handed back to them last week but he claimed on Monday that Inter were also involved in sporting fraud.

According to Palazzi, 'Inter broke the sporting code regulations to gain an unfair advantage in the standings, by conditioning the refereeing appointments'. The chief investigator has issued these statments in light of the phone calls that have emerged between former Inter President Giancinto Facchetti and the refereeing designators at that time.

However, Moratti has come out in defence of his late friend stating that his integrity was unquestionable and that Palazzi is 'totally wrong' in this instance. "I think this is a very serious attack, a heavy attack, on the club: it's unacceptable. Absolutely unacceptable. And I will say this very clearly: Palazzi is wrong. He's totally wrong.

"This is an attack by the prosecutor and, ok, there's no trial so people can say what they want about this. I refuse to accept it, Inter does not accept it and what makes the whole thing reek even more is the fact that Facchetti has been caught up in it.

"And I'm not saying that for the sake of it, because it regards somebody who is no longer with us, somebody whom I admire and think very highly of for his honesty. Since, at the moment, Facchetti is viewed differently, I don't think very highly at all of the person who did this."

"To be honest, I can cut myself out of this, I am secondary, but the fact that Facchetti has been regarded in the way he has is a serious, offensive, stupid thing. Inter fans know exactly what kind of person he was."

Speaking to the club's official website, Moratti also indicated that he was personally not giving much weight to these allegations as according to him all the relevant evidence had already been investigated.

"The weight I give to it is an ugly weight, because it feels like the same climate, that awful climate, I felt during the Calciopoli era. I think this is the same. These are ugly accusations."

"The gentlemen who will sit down around that table to decide - I'm not quite sure what - know exactly what he was like. I find it totally... There are no new elements, only things that others had already judged to be of little note."

Moratti concluded by saying that 'Inter will move very calmly' to respond to these allegations and that in his view they should not have an effect on Juve's bid to have the 2006 Scudetto restored as 'that's over'. The FIGC will sit and discuss the issues which have arisen in the Naples trial which resumes today.

MILAN, July 5 - Inter Milan can manage without Dutch playmaker Wesley Sneijder if he decides to leave the club, new coach Gian Piero Gasperini said as he was officially presented on Tuesday.

Gasperini played down his lack of experience in coaching big clubs and rejected the idea that he would be in the shadows of Jose Mourinho, who won a Serie A, Italian Cup and Champions League treble the season before last.

"There's no doubt that Sneijder's a great player, but it's hard to know what's going to happen over the next 50 days," Gasperini told reporters. "Inter want to become a better team, and two years ago the departure of (Zlatan) Ibrahimovic left the team even stronger than it was before," he said referring to the Swede who has since played for Barcelona and AC Milan.

"I'm not worried about the situation surrounding Wesley. In the last few years, Inter have made fewer bad moves on the market than anybody else and have made the best decisions.

"So I have every reason to feel confident." He added: "This team is full of great players capable of performing in different positions, and that includes Sneijder. "What we must show right from the beginning is a strong mentality and a desire to achieve new targets."

Gasperini became Inter's fourth coach in little more than a year after Mourinho departed last summer and Rafa Benitez and Leonardo failed to last more than a few months each last season.

Inter were last season denied a sixth successive scudetto by AC Milan and were humiliatingly dumped out of the Champions League in the quarter-finals by Schalke 04 after a 5-2 home defeat in the first leg. The 53-year-old has previously coached unglamorous Crotone and Genoa and will be taking charge of a big club for the first time, although he has coached the youth team at Juventus.

"Something can be learnt from each of them, though we know that everyone has their own methods and their own way of building up a rapport with the players," he said of his predecessors.

"There have been generations of important Inter coaches and players. I will become a part of that starting from now and I must concentrate on the immediate future. "I have always thought highly of Mourinho but now we should only to look to the past for inspiration, because we all know that what matters here is winning; that is the determining factor. We have to be positive and produce good football on the pitch."

Inter could be relegated to Serie B, start the season with -20 points, have all their senior players contracts null and void, and be forced to play the entire season wearing skirts (such as in hockey), all with Marco Materazzi as your new manager. I read that somewhere I think, can't remember where.
