Reports in Italy are suggesting that Milan’s mystery summer transfer target is Cesc Fabregas of Arsenal.

The Italian media have been speculating for months about the identity of Mr X, the midfielder whom the Scudetto holders hope to grab before the window closes.

After links with Napoli’s Marek Hamsik were again shot down this week, whispers are starting to get louder that the San Siro giants actually want the Spaniard.

Although it is widely accepted that Barcelona would be the player’s likely destination should he leave Arsenal, Milan are monitoring the situation.

With Barca being told by Udinese that primary transfer target Alexis Sanchez will cost €50m, it remains to be seen whether they will have the budget to net Cesc too.

Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani has intimated that the Rossoneri will make their move for Mr X in late August.

That strategy follows last summer’s late swoops for Manchester City forward Robinho and Zlatan Ibrahimovic of Barcelona.

As I said before, Ganso is ours and that is that. I'm never worried about that. The fact that Santos won the Libertadores, though, adds a wrinkle to our plans in getting him now. South Americans highly rate the CWC and treat it with same respect we treat CL and players like Ganso who are destined to Europe view it as a once-in-a-lifetime chance. Obviously, it would be better to get him in the summer but it doesn't surprise he wants to stay and play in that competition. If we get him in January then it shouldn't be a big problem for us. Real CL football doesn't begin till February anyways and we should have a good enough team to survive the group stages anyways.

For now, let's get that quality midfielder we've been promised. This is a more pressing priority for us to address

It is now finally official: Milan have signed Stephan El Shaarawy from Genoa in exchange for Alexander Merkel plus cash.

The move had been known for several weeks, but could not be completed until the 17-year-old had finished his exams.

“AC Milan announce they have bought Stephan El Shaarawy from Genoa in a co-ownership deal and have sold to Genoa, again in a co-ownership agreement, Alexander Merkel,” read a statement on the club website.

Although no figures have been mentioned, it’s widely believed the Rossoneri paid €10m for half the Under-21 international’s contract.

“El Shaarawy is a very good player and he will become a No 1,” Coach Max Allegri said to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“He is young, has quality, and he is of the type of player that you must focus on to create a cycle – and make us competitive in Europe too.

“We have to be careful though, you don’t have to create a phenomenon.

“Stephan is still a young boy and he will have to study this new environment, but I’m convinced that he has his head in the right place.

“When Milan choose a player, they don’t only look at his technical qualities…”

Sporting Clube de Portugal have confirmed the signing of United States international Oguchi Onyewu on a three-year deal.

The 29-year-old, who was loaned by AC Milan to FC Twente during the second half of last season, played eight league matches for the Eredevisie runners-up, helped them win the Dutch Cup and appeared in five UEFA Europa League matches as Michel Preud’homme's side reached the quarter-finals. "I have come to win at Sporting," said the central defender, who joined Milan in summer in 2009 from R. Standard de Liège.

Onyewu is one of three new signings for Domingos Paciência's side, who have also acquired 19-year-old Colombian right-back Santiago Árias on a five-year deal from Club Deportivo La Equidad Seguros and striker Rick Van Wolfswinkel, 22, who arrrived from FC Utrecht for €5.4m.

Sporting will enter the UEFA Europa League play-offs after the draw takes place in Nyon on 5 August.

Whats the story with Milan going after Nasri? All the talk is off him leaving Arsewipe and they are reluctant to sell him to a fellow Premiershit side, and he would fit in nicely in your midfield and as your 'Mr X'. He would cost €25+, though, so its time for Galliani and co to stump up the dough, no?

nasri won't go for more than 15m. he's got only one year left on his contract. wenger is a dumbass because he would sell fabregas[/nasri] to man.utd for the right price. wenger doesn't give a shit about strengthening direct opponents.

i wouldn't mind nasri, he's a damn good player.

Well, I read this in the yesterday:

Arsenal are facing the potential loss of three first-team regulars this summer, with Manchester City confident of a £7m deal for Gael Clichy and now rivalling Manchester United in their interest for Samir Nasri. Communication between Arsenal and Barcelona is also ongoing over Cesc Fabregas as the two clubs try to find a compromise on a deal worth around £37m.

Although manager Arsene Wenger is understood to be willing to allow Fabregas and Clichy to leave at the right price, he is unlikely to sanction the departure of Nasri to another Premiershit club if he has already lost Fabregas.

Sources in Italy have also confirmed the interest of AC Milan in Nasri and, while Wenger has still not given up hope of persuading the 24-year-old to sign a new contract, he would be more comfortable with one of his most prized assets moving to a club outside of England. Nasri has entered the final year of his contract and so could potentially leave for nothing next summer. It places Arsenal in a difficult position, particularly as United are believed to be preparing an offer of £20m.
