The Roma official website has released details of summer training camp in Riscone di Brunico between the 15 and 26 of July. Our first friendly will be against a local side on Sunday 17, followed by some nice cocktails (virgin daiquiri for Cici) and some music. On Tuesday 19 there will be a presentation of the team and a concert and meet and greet, on the Thursday there will be more feckin live music, and on Friday there will be a vote for 'Miss Tifosa Giallorossa Riscone 2011', whatever the flyin fook that is. On Sat 23 there is a friendly against F.C. Sdtirol/Alto Adige, and on Tuesday 26 there is a 'triangular' friendly competition against Wacker Innsbruck and new Arab rich kids PSG in Innsbruck. All sounds nice and relaxing, eh, lets hope they don't forget to actually do some training, too.

La A.S. Roma, tramite il proprio sito ufficiale, ha reso noto il programma ufficiale del ritiro estivo che si terrà a Riscone di Brunico dal 15 al 26 luglio 2011: tra i vari appuntamenti, sono previsti eventi, incontri con i tifosi e partite amichevoli. Ecco il comunicato societario:

Roma, l'orgoglio di Vucinic...

La Roma ha inviato la lettera di convocazione a Mirko Vucinic per il prossimo ritiro estivo di Riscone. Non una prova di forza da parte della società, ma la prassi. Il montenegrino ha detto più volte a chiare lettere di voler andare via: il problema non è assolutamente di natura tattica, come sosteneva il ct della sua Nazionale, ma ambientale. Vucinic ha rotto con i tifosi e desidera cambiare aria. Appurata la motivazione, Walter Sabatini l'ha ritirato formalmente dal mercato.

Il ds, infatti, stima tantissimo il centravanti e la sua vittoria più grande sarebbe quella di ripristinare l'idillio con i tifosi (si sa, in questo sport basta un gol ed una partita disputata bene per dimenticare tutto), e magari, nello step successivo, rivederlo ai livelli di un paio d'anni fa, quando era soprannominato 'l'uomo dei sogni'. Quest'ultimi, però, difficilmente sono realizzabili. La fredda quotidianità, infatti, invita Vucinic a ribadire la sua volontà di essere ceduto. E lo farà. La Roma, dal canto proprio, è stata chiara. Occorrono venti milioni per trattare l'affare con un'altra società. Non a caso, la recente offerta del Tottenham di quindici è stata respinta al mittente.

Sempre lo stesso Sabatini, qualche giorno fa, rispondendo ad una domanda su Doni, affermava quanto puntasse sull'orgoglio del portiere di rimettersi in gioco. Nel suo caso non alla Roma, ma in altre realtà. Vucinic è l'altra faccia di Doni. Riepiloghiamo: la questione è soltanto ambientale e la società ha desiderio di tenerlo. Ergo: Vucinic faccia l'uomo e provi a superare le avversità. Per capire quanto orgoglio ha in corpo il montenegrino occorre soltanto aspettare. Il pregio di farsi capire subito con i fatti ce l'ha...

Agreed 100%, Fonz. The quoted part, threadzo, just says "Therefore: Vooch should act like a man and show the guts to battle to overcome this adversity." The following sentence then says that from his reaction we'll know how much 'orgoglio' he really has - 'orgogolio' means, literally, 'pride', but in the sense of 'sense of self-worth', 'self-belief': that is, from Vooch's reaction we'll know how big his balls really are.

Grazie, Queen Mary of the Shire. Its hard to argue with any of that. Of course, I hope he can overcome this "adversity" and goes to Brunico and just gets back to playing football and put all this shit behind him. I'm still worried, though, that the likes of Spurs will eventually offer the €20m for him and he may leave, but I hope it doesn't happen. If we lose him it will cause more problems and require us to bring in a new player of sufficient quality on top of the all ones we're supposed to be after already.

Fonz, its not only those comments from some 'fans' on the street, in fairness, but also how he was booed every time he was on the ball, even when he (finally) put the feckin ball in the net against Samp (video from the Curva Sud ). A small minority of hardcore fans booing him, perhaps, but there will always be some tifosi like that who get on players backs. Not just at Roma, it happens everywhere in every sport, but in Roma especially the pressure and emotion is, as we know, a lot more severe. He feels this 'environment' is not good for him and the atmosphere has been tainted, but its all a load of shite, if he stays and gets back to his best these fans will soon shut up.

Seriously, why wouldn't he want a shot in a 4-3-3 with Totti and Bojan along with a supporting cast at least a notch or two better than what he's had for the past however many seasons? He should be excited by the prospect of it all - unless he's worried he's going to be found out again and not going to be able to cut it amidst a little more competition. The one interesting thing in that piece to me was the passing dismissal of the Montenegran coach's comment (I missed the comment when it was originally made) that Vooch's problems at Roma were essentially tactical. I have long wondered whether there's not a fair bit of truth in this. I can't see how he'd fit in at Spurs (unless it's true that Modric is going) any better - as the lone striker in a 4-4-1-1? That seems to me a very improbable match.

I'm not sure of those exact comments either, but I presume they're along the lines of him being played somewhat out of the position on the left-hand side (of the 4-2-3-1) and not being as close to goal as he'd like and having more defensive responsibilities etc. He can play there and can play well there, I think, but its not his best position or his preferred position and so perhaps thats what those comments were referring too. I agree, from a tactical point going forward in this new Roma it makes sense for him to stay and he'd fit in perfectly in a front three of Totti and A.N. Other, and I'd relish seeing it. I don't think there's anything in him being 'found out' – if you have to question that then your doubting his ability and don't know the player too well. He is just being stroppy and disgruntled and upset at a section of the tisfosi's treatment of him and its something he needs to get over. I agree, too, that he wouldn't fit in at Spurs, since what they are looking for is a pure in-the-box goalscorer and so its not a perfect match, but since when has an English club with lots of money made sense of its transfer policy (Arsewipe aside)?

Since when have Arsewipe's transfer dealings made much sense? And I do doubt Vooch's ability - knowing the player quite well. I don't doubt his technical and physical qualities, but I do doubt his mental ones (discipline, guts, composure, accuracy). I suspect the coach's comments weren't just about being played out left; one of the things I think Vooch struggles with is always being made to ask runs in behind. Pairing him with a different kind of front-man from Totti, then, might make more difference in this regard than simply playing him through the middle would. Which, of course, is why Fonz reckons I have a woody at the thought of Bojan being added to the mix.

I don't know, Fonz. Clearly Taddei and Rosi have also given us runs-in-behind down the right in a 4-2-3-1, not to mention Perrotta. I think the problems for Vooch would be considerably less with a Bojan down the right than a Menez. And having an absolutely top-class, lightning quick left back alongside him would also make life easier too. His problem is probably that he's sort of half-way between a second-striker and a prima punta and so it's hard to match him up straightforwardly with anyone. Which is also why I'm not convinced his natural position isn't actually as a wing-forward; he just doesn't like having to do all his work running away from the ball, which is why someone like Bojan down the right might resolve his problems. I don't know, though - I hope we get a chance to see.
