I'm not sure Luis Enrique's tenure will be all that successful. It's worth a try, but Serie A is a particularly hard league to play beautiful football in.
Not saying that calcio is ugly, more that whenever a big team playing beautiful football emerges, it's usually the Italian teams that are most likely to beat them. Barcelona in 1994 and Barca in 2010 are a couple of a examples.

Also our local paper has Roma and Rovers locked in a battle to sign Jermaine Jones, who was on loan at Rovers in the second half of last season.

He's 29 but a really good, driving centre midfielder who was, after a few games needed to settle in, superb in his loan spell at Ewood. I'm happy that he'll be most likely at one of my two favourite teams next season!

"A thought on Pastore: Getting him in Rome is most probably a real long shot BUT, I had an idea to make it a tad less of a long shot. I read some time ago that the deal that Palermo sruck with his former club (Huracan?) included a clause that Palermo would pay Huracan a percentage (I think it was 50%) of any future transfer fee that Palermo would make on Pastore. I have no idea if this is true but if it is, I have an idea based on this premise.

We all know that Zamparini is crazy and over-values his players (recently stating that Pastore is worth 2 Neymars) and is asking for 50m for Pastore. From what I've read, Pastore's market value is more in the 30/35m range. Lets say that Saba is willing to pay 35m for Pastore but Zampacrazini won't settle for less than 40m. (Remember Im assuming that Palermo do in fact have to pay Huracan 50% of the money earned in Pastore's transfer so 1/2 of 35m would give Zampacrazini a 17.5m profit while 1/2 of 40m would give him a 20m profit.) Roma are also interested in a couple other Palermo players such as Bovo and Balzaretti and Roma will be offloading players that Palermo might be interested in. This leads to my idea: What if Saba and Zampacrazini "hid" a small portion of Pastore's transfer in other deals? For e.g., lets say that Saba and Zamp agree to 10m fees for both Bovo and Balzaretti (totalling to 20m) and a 4m fee for Greco. On paper, we could pay Palermo only 30m for Pastore but pay 12 for Bovo, 12 for Balzaretti and charge 3 for Greco. At the end of the day, we would be paying the exact same amount on balance. The difference would be that Palermo would only have to pay Huracan 1/2 of 30m so they would receive 15m plus the 5m hidden in the extra transfers which would essentially give Palermo 20m for Pastore....the equivalent of what they would get if we bought him outright for 40m. This turns out to be the same for us but sweetens the deal for Palermo.

The preceding shiftiness was my "Italian mind" at work."


This is a brilliant idea, but I'm not sure this guy is using it right.

So, let's say Zamparini wants 40m for pastore, 10m for cassani, 10m for balzaretti and 5m for bovo. This means Palermo would recieve 45m and 20m would go to Huracan. Wouldn't it be better, though, to pay him 20m for Pastore, 15m for cassani, 10m for balzaretti and 10 for bovo? Palermo would still recieve 45m, but Huracan would only recieve 10m, and the deal would be 10m cheaper for us (instead of us paying the same after "hiding" the fee anyway like this guy suggested). This would essentially be stealing 10m from Huracan, but who gives a fuck. we've got the scudetto to win.

it technically would work but you answered your own question. Zamparini would be crazy not to take an offer like that but Zamparini IS crazy enough to not even consider it. i think the sheer thought of owning players we want drives him up the wall and makes him expect a bidding war for every player. thank Christ that Sabatini is no longer around to fuel his transfer cards

So Inter won Viviano in the blind auction because Bologna filled in the form wrong and wrote the wrong amount!!!!! If they had filled in the form correctly they would have outbid Inter!!! FUCKING MUPPETS!!! Bologna were ready to sell him straight to us if they won. Good luck to us to get him off Inter at a fair price if at all.

Marseille coach Didier Deschamps has spoken about the reasons behind his decision to stay at the Stade Vélodrome despite a number of Europe’s top clubs including Roma and Chelsea.

With Deschamps’ future at Marseille was under increasing speculation earlier this summer as he expressed doubts over the clubs long term plans.

But despite an offer from Roma he does not feel they are of an high enough calibre for him to leave Marseille.

“I had the choice to leave,” Deschamps told l’Equipe.

“I had offers, one of which [Roma] was sorely tempting. But I didn’t want to leave Marseille for a club that isn’t well and truly at a higher level.”

“Margarita Louis-Dreyfus [Marseille's owner] has always conducted herself in an exemplary fashion, and Vincent Labrune has given me the answers to the questions I was asking.

“Also, in 2013, the club will celebrate the 20th anniversary of our Champions League win, and I’d love to be here for that.
