Moratti: 'Inter Coach by end of week'

President Massimo Moratti has confirmed “Inter should announce their new Coach by the end of the week.”

The club is scrambling for a replacement after Leonardo quit to become a director at Paris Saint-Germain.

So far they have been turned down by Marcelo Bielsa, Sinisa Mihajlovic, Andre Villas-Boas and Fabio Capello.

“I spoke with directors Marco Branca and Pietro Ausilio about transfer activity both coming in and going out,” explained Moratti to Sky Sport Italia after leaving a meeting.

“I can tell you Inter should announce their new Coach by the end of the week.”

Other options were suggested today, such as France manager and former Inter player Laurent Blanc.

“No, he is tied to the France squad and by even attempting it we’d be back to square one.

"We cannot say Guus Hiddink is the 'favourite,' as that would be lacking respect to others.

"Gian Piero Gasperini has been contacted, but it was just an initial enquiry."

Leaving aside the whole issue of tactics, my concern with Gasperini is that he looks a little mild mannered. Would he be able to handle all the egos in the dressing room and demand their respect?

Inter ignore Kharja option

Inter haven’t taken up their option to sign Houssine Kharja on a permanent basis from Serie A side Genoa.

The Moroccan joined the San Siro giants on a six month loan in January with an option to remain at the Meazza.

“I can confirm that the option to take Kharja has expired,” agent Beppe Galli told Radio CRC on Thursday.

The midfielder has been linked with a switch to Napoli and his agent has welcomed such a possibility.

“There is still a chance that Inter could sign him, but the player would like a switch to the Azzurri,” Galli added.

Kharja, born in November 1982, joined Genoa in 2009 after two seasons at Tuscan minnows Siena

President Massimo Moratti is “fully satisfied with the decision” after Inter officially appointed Gian Piero Gasperini.

The news had been expected and an official statement was posted on the club website at 15.00 UK time.

“Gian Piero Gasperini will be the new Coach of Inter. President Massimo Moratti, who is currently outside of Italy, confirms he is ‘fully satisfied with the decision.’

“Along with the whole club he wishes Gasperini ‘all the success that has brought Inter to the title of World Champion.’

“The official announcement will arrive once the final red tape has been cleared and, at that moment, we will also confirm the date of his presentation to the media.

“Gasperini, aged 53, will sign a two-year contract and work with the staff already at the club plus two new collaborators, assistant Bruno Caneo and fitness coach Luca Trucchi.”

Hmmm. Obviously a decent manager, but has he done enough to get the Inter job and will he be able to convince Eto'o and maybe Sneijder to stay? In charge of Italy's two top clubs atm, Inter and Milan, we have Gasperini and Allegri - hardly like when Mourinho and Ancelotti were there only a couple of years ago. I doubt that they'll be able to bring European success like Mou and Carlo did. Let's hope I'm proved wrong!

You wont be proved wrong. Right now there is no prospective European champions material in Italy, whoever the coach is.

The only positive to come out of this is that we have a manager thats Italian. A 2-year contract? Are we waiting for Pep to get sick of Barca or will we be building our future with Gasperini in charge? Now, we will have to wait and see if we can keep our stars and then strengthen the squad even further. Interesting, but not entirely positive times at our club atm.

Viviano and D'Agostino go to auction

Among those players going to a blind auction are Emiliano Viviano and Gaetano D’Agostino, but Inter lose Marco Andreolli.

The deadline for the co-ownership deals has now passed and some clubs have not been able to reach an agreement on whether to renew or buy a player outright.

In tomorrow’s blind auction, each club writes a figure in a sealed envelope and the highest bid wins the player.

Those who have gone to the auction are D’Agostino (Fiorentina-Udinese), Albin Ekdal (Bologna-Juventus), Riccardo Meggiorini (Bologna-Genoa) and Gianni Munari (Lecce-Palermo).

The biggest name still in the balance is Italy number two goalkeeper Viviano, who is co-owned between Bologna and Inter.

The two clubs have been unable to reach an agreement, so his fate will be decided by a blind auction.

The same goes for D’Agostino, who a year ago was the subject of a bidding war between Juventus and Real Madrid.

Now he finds himself unsure whether Udinese or Fiorentina want to buy him outright.

Some decisions were reached right at the deadline, as Inter have sold their half of Italy Under-21 international Andreolli to Chievo.

Roma snapped up goalkeeper Gianluca Curci from Sampdoria, while Parma took Daniele Galloppa from Siena.

Bari bought Abdel Ghezzal from Siena, while Roma completed ownership of Sampdoria’s Stefano Guberti.

Sampdoria secured the other 50 per cent of Daniele Mannini’s contract from Napoli.
