Brescia fought back twice for a point in this entertaining match that saw both sides test out young talent.

It was a sad occasion at the Rigamonti, as Brescia fans said goodbye to Serie A after just one season. Their relegation had already been decided a couple of weeks ago, so this was a chance to test out new players. Panagiotis Kone' and Perparim Hetemaj sat out bans amid a series of injuries. Fiorentina were subjected to protests this week after failing to qualify for Europe once again. Per Kroldrup was suspended with Alberto Gilardino sidelined.

It was a bad start for the Rondinelle, as within 100 seconds they had gone a goal down. Juan Manuel Vargas unleashed one of his trademark rockets from the edge of the box that flew into the net, but this time it was with his weaker right foot.

Vargas attempted another snapshot from distance, but this time Arcari flew to get a fingertip to it.

Brescia equalised in fairly daft circumstances, as Fiorentina teammates Riccardo Montolivo and Gulan clattered into each other, allowing Eder to run clear and beat the on-rushing Sebastien Frey.

Gulan had a rare start, but his game only lasted 31 minutes and he was stretchered off with an injury. Frey denied an Alessandro Diamanti volley, while Adrian Mutu wasted a couple of chances.

Jonathas and Khouma Babacar wasted from promising positions, while Brescia gave Nana his Serie A debut at the age of 16.

Fiorentina restored their advantage with Alessio Cerci, who can't seem to stop scoring at the moment with six goals in the last five games. He gathered a low pass down the right and flashed a left-foot angled drive across Arcari at the near post.

Accardi was in the right place at the right time to nod in when Frey palmed away Andrea Caracciolo's header.

How's Cerci been going for you guys? He seems to have started to get a bit of a run in the team and to have picked up a goal or two of late. Is he still running around like a headless chicken?

Bit of a headless chicken to start off with but always tried unlike some. Seems to be very much a confidence player , last 6 weeks has been awesome , 6 goals has only completed 1 game, assists, woodwork, forcing stunning saves from opposition keeper. From zero to hero - Cerci e il nostro Messi is new cry from Curva Fiesole.
Might have something to do with fact he seems to have been given more licence to roam whereas before he was stuck out on wing

www.fiorentinanews.com are reporting details of Jonathan transfer are currently being ironed out . Accompanying video shows him to be a right back who is fast has two good feet can defend , attack , score and puts in a decent cross which we have been missing for about 6 years. All in all looks a good signing should link well with Cerci.

Same site also reports Alessandro Diamanti is a step away from returning to Firenze.

Cerci is an interesting one. It was sad to see him leave us but at the same time you felt as if he could never really develop unless he was playing week-in, week-out. Its good to see him flourish at Fiorentina. I hope he continues to do so and then he comes back to Rome when he is ready.

Its a pity about Montolivo. Why does he want to leave? Money, CL football, ambition? I guess its the latter. Its always sad to see such an important player and captain of a club wanting to move on for whatever reasons, so hopefully he decides to stay.

And Gilardino may leave, too? Surprised to see that.

Sorry but I will be delighted if Montolivo goes(wants to go because he no longer believes in Viola project) - a player of undoubted talent but only plays about 5 good games a season. Viola websites are reporting that there is not much interest in him from Italian clubs and he could end up abroad. Only Italian club to show any interest so far are Milan and if he goes there we get Cassano and money.

Cassano has reputedly signed until 2014 for Milan so (thankfully) he's out of the frame. I entirely agree with Purple Hellequin re Montolivo. He's just not consistent enough. Delighted to see the back of Santana and Marchionni, sorry to see Commotto go. He may not be the greatest of right backs, but I admire his commitment and drive. Frey leaving is a body blow. The only keeper near to his standard who might be available is Marchetti, but no-one seems to know what the position is between him and Cagliari. Surely his contract must be up by now. No mention of Mutu - is he staying? And I thought Donadel was off to Genoa.
In general terms I'm pleased to see the clearout - I called for that on another thread three months or so ago. But we must bring in quality players and not Juventus castoffs. Jo-Jo will be back, a major plus. A good left back and a couple of proven strikers are paramount.

Regarding keepers - apparently Miha has said Neto is future so club will bring in experienced keeper to sit on bench.
Will be gutted if Saint Sebastien leaves - he is desperate to stay but club want him off payroll along with Mutu who is again being linked with Cesena.
I thought Donadel was a Genoa player too but it appears not.

At start of season he was whistled whenever he touched the ball - you should have heard whistling one day when he stripped to come on as sub. It was one of reasons he only came back into team at end of season. Personally I have always liked him as he says he was not only one pkaying badly at start of season but he seemed to be one who was picked on - at least for me he always tried. Wasn't aware of insults in street - totally reprehensible in my opinion

Vucinic's name has surfaced again on RAI teletext; please NO. The four names above do not inspire optimism. Santon and Zaccardo are O.K. but not grade A defenders, Barreto has spent nearly a year out injured and Giovanni (if it's who I'm thinking of) has not set the heather on fire in Spain.

Dos Santos is the Mexican lad (ex-Barca) who's been loaned out by Spurs this season (to Santander this year, as you say, to Galatasaray last, to Ipswich before that . . . etc. etc.). I think Vucinic will do well if he goes to another club and is considered a key player and is played alongside a true, out-and-out striker. I think he's struggled with Roma at times because he's not quite a natural playing-partner of Totti. Alongside someone like GIlardino (though I know he's being linked with a move away), then, I think he'd do pretty darn well. I hope he stays at Roma, though.
