Here's an article talking about Garrone who says he's not to blame:
Sampdoria president says not to blame for relegation – 18 hours ago
ROME — Sampdoria president Riccardo Garrone has denied he is responsible for the team's relegation from Serie A despite selling their best two players. Last season, inspired by the formidable front pairing of Antonio Cassano and Giampaolo Pazzini, Sampdoria finished fourth and qualified for the Champions League.
Sampdoria were in contention for a European finish this season until selling both Cassano and Pazzini, after which their form collapsed and they were relegated. Most strikingly, they scored a paltry 14 goals in 22 games since the turn of the year.
Garrone fell out with Cassano in October and banished him from the first team squad, selling him to AC Milan in January. But then he also cashed in on Pazzini, letting him leave for Inter Milan.
Loan signings Federico Macheda from Manchester United and Jonathan Biabiany from Inter failed to impress and substitute forwards Nicola Pozzo and Massimo Maccarone were far from rip-roaring successes either. Garrone has wiped his hands of any blame.
"From the Champions League to relegation to Serie B is inexplicable. We made mistakes but we also had difficult situations to manage," he said. "And the team earned few points in the second half of the season.
"The departures of Cassano and Pazzini made a difference to the team but the squad wasn't a Serie B squad. "The Cassano situation distracted the team, for three months it was covered a lot in the press.
"Then the general manager left in mid-season and that left a void. The engine came to a halt and this is the result."
Cassano had insulted Garrone when asked to attend a social event and although he later publicly apologised, the club president refused to forgive him. Garrone refused to accept he was to blame for banishing, then selling the player: "With Cassano we would do the same all over again. Certain behaviour is unacceptable.
"In fact, I would have said something to the national team which should have not just the best players but also those who are symbols of good behaviour. This makes me bitter. "Those who do like Cassano exclude themselves, whereas the Pazzini situation was different.
"He had the chance of a lifetime and asked to be sold to Inter and it was right to accommodate him."
Sampdoria began the season with Domenico Di Carlo at the helm but he was replaced in March by Alberto Cavasin, who was hired until the end of the season.
Although moved aside, Di Carlo is still under contract with Samp for another season but Garrone says neither he nor former coach Luigi Delneri, recently fired by Juventus, are in the running to take over the club in Serie B.
"Not Di Carlo and not Delneri. We'll make a decision this week. A lot of names are being mentioned but we'll work in silence," he said.
New Sampdoria boss Beppe Iachini concedes that the squad is good enough to be fighting for promotion to Serie A.
Doria started the campaign as favourites for the Serie B championship following their shock relegation last term.
But the season has been a tough one so far and inconsistent results saw Gianluca Atzori axed on Sunday.
“Looking at the squad’s DNA, this side has an obligation to believe that they will be protagonists in the championship,” he noted.
“All of the players are valid, they just have to re-find that belief and confidence in their own ability to get back to being in an important League position.”
Doria are currently seventh in Serie B – 12 points behind leaders Torino – after five wins, seven draws and three losses.
“At Sampdoria I have the opportunity to win a new battle thanks to an important project,” continued the former Brescia tactician.
“I almost joined Samp as a player when Vujadin Boskov was in charge. Today I arrive as a Coach and I’ll try to get Samp back to where the club and its fans deserve.
“I promise the supporters hard work, seriousness and effort. We’ll come off the pitch having given our all in our attempts to win.”
Parma 2 - 1 Sampdoria Amauri pen 36, 53 (P), Eder pen 81 (S) Stadio Ennio Tardini
Amauri bagged a brace to revive Parma’s fortunes against 10-man Sampdoria after Sergio Romero’s dismissal.
The Ducali had to reshuffle for this relegation tussle, as Alessandro Lucarelli and Yohan Benalouane sat out bans, joining the injured Raffaele Palladini and Fabiano Santacroce. Samp were without a win in four and had Daniele Gastaldello suspended, while Nicola Pozzi, Andrea Poli and Pedro Obiang were sidelined, but Eder recovered from his knock.
Maxi Lopez and Renan failed to make the most of a Jonathan Biabiany defensive error, but there was a scare when the Berardi cross-shot looped just over the bar with Antonio Mirante off his line.
Enzo Maresca also spotted a chance from distance and his fierce right-foot blockbuster came so close to surprising Mirante.
Sampdoria went down to 10 men and gave away a penalty when Sergio Romero came out to blatantly take down Biabiany after the offside trap failed. It was a remarkably obvious foul, as the goalkeeper literally grabbed one of his legs and represented Romero’s second red card of the season. Amauri stepped up and comfortably rolled the penalty past substitute goalkeeper Tommaso Berni to put Parma in front.
Daniele Galloppa went off with a left thigh problem to make way for Marco Parolo. Berni was forced into another save on the Jaime Valdes free kick, fingertipping it off the line, but on the rebound there were complaints for a Biabiany handling offence.
Amauri made it 2-0 for Parma and this time it was from open play. The Italian-Brazilian jumped over his marker for a powerful header on the Aleandro Rosi cross from the right.
Andrea Costa had the chance to equalise when a free kick came to the back stick, but he controlled with his chest and ran out of room, hitting it on to the side-netting.
Eder sprung the offside trap and burst into the box, where he fell under a clumsy Mirante challenge for a penalty. However, this time the referee only showed a yellow card rather than the straight red given to Romero for a similar situation. Eder stepped up and sent Mirante the wrong way to make it 2-1.
Berni needed a desperate save to stop Amauri’s deflected header from slipping under the bar, while he was also kept busy by Biabiany and Pabon.
Samp are in a pretty dire run of form. There's a few parallels with Ferrara's time at Rube. Excellent start but was then unable to turn around a bad run of form. Same could happen again if he's not careful.
There was a good reason that things went wrong at Juve.
The Waterboy was injured for most of the time things were going well. When he regained fitness, Ferrara adapted the team team fit him in and things went pear-shaped.
Haven't seen Samp since they lost to Napoli, but they were solid enough in that game, even if they didn't look capable of creating much.
Sampdoria present new stadium plans Reuters – 1 hour 52 minutes ago / By Terry Daley
ROME, April 12 (Reuters) - Sampdoria unveiled plans for a new 30,000-capacity stadium to the Genoa city council on Friday and hope to build the venue within three years.
The Serie A club's scheme, presented by president Edoardo Garrone, included 1,000 car park spaces plus another area that could host other sporting events.
"Experience teaches us when clubs own their stadiums they make more money while also bringing extra benefits to the city," Garrone was quoted as telling the Italian news agency ANSA.
"This is my father's dream for his city and his team," he told La Repubblica newspaper.
Sampdoria want to build the new stadium in the Fiera district on the Genoa seafront but did not say how much the development would cost. New stadiums have become a major issue for Serie A clubs since champions Juventus moved into their new home at the end of last season and the switch produced an instant increase in attendances.
Inter Milan, Lazio and Roma are also intent on having their own stadiums.
Roma, who ground-share with Lazio, announced plans last year to build a new 55,000-60,000 capacity venue by 2016. Inter also have a ground-share scheme with AC Milan.
Last month Udinese secured a 99-year lease of their council-owned Stadio Friuli venue and the surrounding land. The club will pay the Udine council 45,000 euros ($59,100) a month and are committed to structural upgrades worth 21.5 million euros.
The 0-3 reverse against Genoa has got me worrying for Samp this season; I just do not think Samp have any sort of plan of how to play and attack under Dellio Rossi. This was a Genoa team that had conceded 7 goals in two games before last weekends game. We hardly troubled their goal.
The poor run we had at the end of last season would have taken us down if it were not for a our great start last year; unfortunately we have lost Icardi who was one of the few players who could hold the ball up and change the game last year. We really need to get rid of Eder as he is just not cut out for Serie A.
