Inter meet Udinese for Sanchez

Inter President Massimo Moratti has held talks with Udinese regarding Stadio Friuli sensation Alexis Sanchez.

Moratti met with Gino Pozzo, son of patron Giampaolo Pozzo, on Monday to discuss possible offers for the Chilean.

According to the Corriere della Sera, the oil baron tabled a player plus cash bid in an effort to tempt Udinese into a sale.

It’s understood that Moratti offered €20m, plus the contracts of McDonald Mariga and Joel Obi, as well as the loan of Philippe Coutinho.

Italian international full-back Davide Santon, who has spent the last six months on loan at Cesena, was also discussed.

Udinese are now considering their options, fresh in the knowledge that Inter are not the only interested side.

The Bianconeri revealed on Sunday that they had turned down a €35m offer for Sanchez, a bid which many believe came from Manchester City.

Barcelona and Chelsea have been paired with the 2010 World Cup player too, as have Milan and Juventus.

Sneijder: I’m staying at Inter

Wesley Sneijder insists the Coppa Italia Final against Palermo will not be his last game for Inter.

The transfer rumour mill has suggested that the Dutchman may be sacrificed by the San Siro giants, with Manchester United just one club linked with his services.

However, speaking to the Corriere dello Sport on Thursday, the Holland international has pledged his future to the Nerazzurri.

“Next season? I’ll be here,” he declared.

Sneijder, signed from Real Madrid in the summer of 2009, has been struggling with fitness in recent weeks.

“I’ve been training with the squad without any problems,” he continued. “I’ll certainly be there against Palermo.

“I want to play and win the Coppa Italia so that we can end the season in a good manner.”

Inter won the treble last term, but have lost a grip on their Scudetto and Champions League crowns.

Inter and Palermo meet in the Cup Final on Sunday evening.

Inter issue Maicon statement

Inter insist that Douglas Maicon’s return to Brazil has nothing to do with the summer transfer market.

Some stories in Italy have been suggesting that the South American has left ahead of a switch, but the Nerazzurri insist his absence is for private matters.

“Internazionale wishes to reiterate that Maicon, who is suspended for next Sunday's Coppa Italia Final, has been granted leave for personal reasons, as explained by Leonardo during last Saturday's Press conference before Inter v Catania,” a club note read.

“The recent media speculation regarding the player is therefore both incomprehensible and entirely groundless.”

Inter face Palermo in Rome this weekend.

Inter reject Montolivo idea

Inter have joined Milan in pulling out of the race to sign Fiorentina captain Riccardo Montolivo.

The classy midfielder has refused to sign a contract extension with the Viola which means the club will have to sell or lose him for nothing in 2012.

The Nerazzurri had been closely linked, but President Massimo Moratti today claimed that the player would not be purchased.

“I don’t think that Montolivo can join Inter,” the oil baron noted.

Moratti’s comments come just hours after Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani also dismissed whispers that Montolivo was heading to his club.

“He would be a perfect replacement for Andrea Pirlo, but a Pirlo who plays in front of the defence,” Galliani said.

“We want a left-midfielder and Montolivo is not one. We are looking for a player with legs, a player who is good at coming from deep.”

Juventus have also been associated with Montolivo, but they in turn have signed Pirlo from Milan on a free.

The Bianconeri are expected to soon net Michele Pazienza from Napoli too and they could yet swoop for Udinese’s Gokhan Inler.

Palermo: 'Inter playing mind games'

Palermo Vice-President Guglielmo Miccichè thinks “Inter fear us and are playing mind games” ahead of Sunday’s Coppa Italia Final.

The two clubs go head-to-head in the one-off game at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome tomorrow evening.

It is the Sicilians’ first foray into the Final since the 1970s, while this represents Leonardo’s only stab at silverware this season.

“Something doesn’t convince me about Inter,” said Miccichè. “First they talk about Lucio, Andrea Ranocchia and Wesley Sneijder who aren’t in good shape, but then those players look ready to take part.

“If they feel the need to play these mind games, then it means they fear us.”

The Palermo Vice-President also commented on reports it could be Javier Pastore’s last game in a Rosanero jersey.

“We are only at the end of May, but there have been no concrete offers, so nothing would suggest Pastore will leave.

“We have always sold players only if they come to us with that express intention. Javier has not done that, as we want to keep him and he wants to stay.”

Leonardo ready for Coppa Final

Leonardo praised Coppa Italia Finalists Palermo, but warns “Inter want their third trophy of the season.”
The Nerazzurri won the Italian Super Cup and Club World Cup when Rafa Benitez was at the helm.

“A Final is a Final and it’s important for both teams to be there,” said the Brazilian ahead of Sunday’s clash.

“This has not been an easy year for Inter, but it is nonetheless a positive one and we want the third trophy of the season.

“I don’t see this as any personal victory, as that would be belittling the value of the Coppa Italia for a club.”

The Nerazzurri are the hot favourites and the holders, while Palermo haven’t reached the Final since the 1970s.

“Palermo play in a very clear, attacking fashion and have done for many years. They will be without Armin Bacinovic, but they have many alternatives.

“It is a great squad. I don’t think there is just one player to watch out for, especially as this side has strength in depth.”
