You fucking bitch Greg. That is too far. This is war. I hereby declare a Photoshop war upon the Milan thread (but not right now, i'm still fooked).
Is that Ambrosini in that pic? He looks about 50. He probably is.
Simon, I tend to agree, I'm actually not all that bothered with losing out out on CL football in terms of attracting new players. It may not work in our favour if we we're chasing a hot-target like Contreao or Falco, say, but a lot of those high-profile players are a bit unrealistic for us anyway, I think. I doubt we're going to splash a serious amount of money on any one player, either, and we're likely to see a number of players brought in across the board. There are lots of targets and lots of players who jump at the chance to join a big club like Roma, regardless of CL or Europa league football for one season.
In general I don't like spending much time talking about the mercato madness until the transfer window opens, but lately I can't help but think who we're going to bring in for centre-half. Not only to replace Mexes, but we'll also need another back-up defender as Loria and (presumably) Burdisso's brother will be leaving. I think we could be in trouble there. I like Juan and Burdisso but ideally I don't think they should be our starting partnership, and I'm really struggling as to think of who we can bring in. We'd have to splash a lot of cash to bring in the likes of Subotic or Kjaer, and I don't know if we will. I have to say I like the idea of bringing back Bovo, but there's also problems in that as well. I don't know, I can't see a whole lot of realistic targets out there which could ideally replace Philippe.
Oh, Chelsea lost again (not that it matters), their season is officially over now. I wonder when Carlo will be fired.
So it looks like it's going to be a 4-3-2-1 again - without Menez in the mix, for obvious reasons, but which is, nonetheless, a tragedy since he's the player within our squad most suited to playing as a two behind a striker. It is a pity he has been such a knob and is clearly so mentally soft. I'd love for him to be given more chances through the middle, but I've also been the one, I think, in the distantish past justifying his exclusion behind Taddei; I should probably have stuck more firmly to that opinion on him.
threadddmund, the problem with young cbs, I guess, is that they're less likely to be so prominent for smaller teams (than, say, strikers whose goals will be making a splash, while clean sheets are less news-worthy and less tieable to a single player). And since I don't follow European and South American in general sufficiently closely (and less closely, even, than I once did), I don't see I, for one, am in any position to assess the sorts of prospects with whom we might be linked. Two exciting young 23-year-old CBs, each for about 8 mil, might do the trick perfectly at this stage.
At least we have our managerial position sorted now:
CHELSEA STATEMENT Posted on: Sun 22 May 2011 –
Chelsea Football Club can confirm that Carlo Ancelotti parted company with the club today (Sunday, 22 May). The owner and board would like to thank Carlo for his contribution and achievements since taking over as manager in July 2009, which included winning the Double for the first time in the club's history.
However, this season's performances have fallen short of expectations and the club feels the time is right to make this change ahead of next season's preparations. Carlo will always be welcome at Stamford Bridge, where he will be given the reception and respect his position in our history deserves. Chelsea's long-term football objectives and ambitions remain unchanged and we will now be concentrating all our efforts on identifying a new manager. There will be no further comment until that appointment is made.
Thanks, Don Simon. Now we've got these trolls over here. I think Shield should deal with this. Perhaps some username changes are in order. If you need suggestions pm me.
As for Milan - With Boateng, Cassano, and Phillipe you'll have three of the fugliest tattoos. (yeah, even when I loved Philou, I wasn't a fan of those tats on his neck) Well, Cassano is fugly even without considering his tat.
“I won things with that shirt and I know what it means. In no other city does a victory mean as much as in Rome."
Hmmm, I won't mention baiting again. But why is Ancelotti consistently saying his first choice is to remain in England? I hope it's just to have a couple of big-money offers on the table to strengthen his position when he sits down to talk with our new owners.

Who is Aurora? (from the Totti video) Is this about a new beginning for Roma, or am I over-interpreting? (probably) In which case, I still wonder who Aurora is.
'tec - I always thought fugly was 'fucking ugly', so Jeff's example is perfect. I'll even expand on that example: Man, that new Milan jersey is fugly. Philou never looked fugly in a Roma jersey, but that fugly jersey makes him fugly.

Aurora is his niece, daughter of his brother/agent Riccardo. Personally I hope Cristian goes on to eclipse his old man the way Paolo Maldini did with Cesare. Now that would be something.

I've been searching for a video of when Ancelotti actually said those words –"In my mind I would like to stay in the Premiershit, that is my first choice" (and when he waffled on about West Ham) – but can't find anything ( is his last press conference but its not in it, and is an interview with the BBC). I believe it was from his pre-game press conference against Everton, and I think it was an answer to a question of what he would do if he were sacked (EDIT: source would confirm that: "Told he might make a good West Ham manager, Ancelotti replied: “Why not?"). The words were a little surprising, but I'd like to see the full context of them before making any judgments. I would have thought that there would be no question for him personally where he would go if he was fired from Chelsea, and he would jump at the chance to return to Roma, and I still think that is the case. I'm sure he's disappointed his managerial career in england has been abruptly ended and he probably thought that he would spend a few more years there achieving success and proving himself, but now he has decisions to make, and ultimately i think he will join us if we do make a move for him.
Quite a remarkable video of Totti and the players saying goodbye to Rosella and Maria Sensi and the other one after the game yesterday. Love her or loath her, its quite touching, more so for the legacy of her family:
