Pato ruled out of Copa America

Brazilian forward Alexandre Pato will miss July's Copa America in Argentina after dislocating his shoulder in today's Serie A finale.

Pato played in Italian champions AC Milan's 0-0 draw at Udinese but was forced off in the second period after falling awkwardly.

Milan doctor Maurizio Gevi said afterwards: "He needs at least a month [to recover] but he doesn't need an operation.

"He won't make it for the Copa America because he will also need rehabilitation. His season is over."

I enjoy watching the Copa America. It's not the Euros, but it's something to watch in the offseason.

it's kinda good he will miss that stupid tournament, as it would have been another injury risk. i'm not too concerned about this injury. dislocating a shoulder is not the same as spraining an ankle or knee.

This is obviously different than the usual mix of his muscle injuries, it's a bit of a freak injury but, at the same time,it does little to change my opinion that this guy is injury prone and I dont think we can rely on to stay healthy long-term...I've stated that in the past so I'll continue to believe it until one day I'm (hopefully) proven wrong

Didac looks good from a technical and physical point of view for the fullback..tactically he's nowhere ready for the fullback role at Milan...it's a different ball game from playing at LB for Espanyol in Liga so it doesn't surprise me he's like that right now, but he's pretty young and got potential and I would very much like to see given a chance next year as backup for Taiwo next year, I certainly have more faith in him than Antonini...if we're serious about trimming the squad we'd need to clear the mess in the defence as we have some fine collection of scrubs in Antonini, Oddo, Janku, legrottaglie, Sokratis, Bonera...that's 6 players that should out ...we have Mexes and Taiwo and hopefully Astori to add to Nesta, Thiago, Abate,Zambrotta, Yepes, Didac...adds up to 9 defenders, which sounds about right to me if you want to trim the roster to 25-26 players like Allegri said...3 GK, 9 DEF, 8-9 Midfielders (including AM) and 5 strikers

Btw, Amelia was super today and I think this might've sealed his stay in Milan...now I'm not sure if Marchetti is really that much better (if any better at all) so I'm cool with either names there, though slightly leaning towards Amelia for now

Milan implement over-30 rule
Milan chief Adriano Galliani says the club will only hand one-year contract extensions to players over the age of 30.

The official made the statement when asked about the departure of Andrea Pirlo who leaves the outfit after a decade.

“I think that it is too much for a player who is 30-32 to think about a three-year contract,” he told Sky Italia.

“Had Pirlo accepted shorter terms then he would probably have remained. From now on, Milan will only offer yearly contracts to players over 30.”

Pirlo, who turned 32 last week, is expected to join Juventus on a three-year deal once his present agreement with the Rossoneri expires next month.

Pirlo is one of numerous players whose contracts were or are set to expire in June, another being veteran Clarence Seedorf.

“We want him to renew with us and I’ll try everything to make sure that he stays,” Galliani added.

Galliani will hold fresh talks with the Dutchman, who is wanted by numerous Brazilian clubs, at some stage this week.

I'm going to play the devil's advicate on Pirlo and, you can call me a cynic or whatever, but let's not forget he's joining a hated rival...so while I'll always appreciate what he did for us and never hate on him but let's keep that in mind...unless you tell me he's fascinated by the challenge of no Europe next year, then it's obvious his move is for purely economical reasons...he's perfectly entitled to look for the best deal for himself as a free agent, but let's not make a saint out of him

From a personal perspective I felt alot more sad when Rui Costa left us even if he spent half of the time Pirlo did here...Rui is just a class act

it is economical, Galliani said so himself, we offered him a 1 year deal, pirlo and his agent said they wanted a minimum of 3.

anyhow, i still don't see why he would go to juve. a player like him would be in high demand for a bigger club. i'd love to see him join barcelona and teach them a few things about holding and passing the ball.

Congrats on winning lo Scudetto Milan. I'm not usually the most sympathetic the rossoneri, however I was cheering you on in the title race this season, as you guys were preferable to the alternatives of Napoli, a club I strongly dislike, and Inter, who I didn't want to break Il Grande Torino's record of 4 consecutive (and legitimate) Scudetti.

Also nice to see Cassano finally win the league too. You have quite a likeable team at the minute too, Nesta, Thiago Silva, Seedorf, and I'm even partial to Ibrah too not to mention a cracking young coach and nice guy in Allegri. I just can't ever see myself strongly warming to Milan with Berlusconi will at the helm though.

I'm just pleased to see you're not a Milanista and an Aussie - that would have been too much of a burden for one man to have to bear. Are you a Torino fan? A Bari fan? And how did you find your way to this place?

thanks for the wishes, cassanata, and welcome to the forums. it's funny how you didn't include cassano in your list of likeable guys in milan. tell us a bit about yourself, and how you found out about the forums?

I found this place from twitter. I'm a Sampdoria fan. Cassano is definitely one of the likeable chaps from Milan, I bear no grudge to him for leaving Samp, I only blame Garrone.

Being from Australia I'm not sure exactly how it was that I came to supporting Samp. I've been following them since about 2008, when Montella came back here. Before then I actually had a bit of a soft spot for Roma, but that only really came from studying Latin, and learning about Romulus and Remus, and how they founded Rome, and I quite liked Roma's badge, as well as a couple of the players, Totti and Montella in particular. When I actually started to really get into Italian I found myself liking Sampdoria the most, as they're a good traditional club, with mild mannered fans who give their team great support and don't get caught up in politics and the rest of it like Lazio, Napoli or Livorno, ect, ect. I also looked back at footage of Serie A's heyday in the early 90s, which were better days for Samp, and that conquering team with Mancini, Vialli, Lombardo, Vierchowod really struck a chord with me.

I also have a strong belief in football for club to live within their means and operate as a football club for the people, not as an ego trip for the owner. I'm fine with investment to improve the club, but I don't like the way that some clubs like Inter operate (or Wolfburg in the Bundesliga) in which the club is designed to operate at a loss, and the owners just replace the money the club loses. And for all my frustration at Garrone, I at least have to respect him for running the club sensibly from a financial persective.
